” Secular Democracy in India has never come under such a severe strain as we are witnessing today. Only the fighting unity of the Indian patriots can overcome this challenge and take India forward towards the creation of a better India for our people. It is this unity in struggles of the vast majority of our people which will create the alternative people’s narrative to the current Modi narrative.” – Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary, CPI(M) in ‘People’s Democracy’ dated 13th August 2017.

GST, Modi, Sitaram Yechury

Rohtak, June 30: Sitaram Yechuri has demanded the self styled cow vigilante groups to be outlawed for their unabated criminal activities in the form of lynching mobs targeting especially the citizens belonging to minority communities and dalits.
While addressing the media here today CPI(M) General Secretary expressed dissatisfaction over the belated response of the Prime Minister commenting that Mahatama Gandhi would have never accepted killings in the name of cows while he did not reveal what his government was doing to effectively deal with the lynch mobs or so called Romeo squads. He said that a man was being beaten to death in Jharkhand only just after the PM was speaking in Gujarat yesterday.
He expressed deep concern over unprecedented crisis in agriculture sector as reflected through massive upsurge of the peasantry recently in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. He castigated a Central minister for describing the loan waiver demand as a fashion and asked why the farmers were falling in debt trap in the first place. It was non other than Modi himself to promise farm produce to be purchased at one and half times more than the cost of production and now his BJP government had gone back to honour the election promise.
Calling the todays function in the Central hall of Parliament as a Tamasha he raised several apprehensions over the present form of tax structure under the GST and described it as beneficial to the Corporate sector and foreign capital while harmful for the small traders and common people. In this context he expressed anguish at taxes imposed on the aids for the differently abled persons and cited it as one example of utterly insensitive and inhuman. Mr Yechuri told that the Finance Minister had given him an assurance on the floor of Parliament that tax structure will be brought before the house for discussion and debate but NDA government has gone ahead bypassing the parliament. He blamed the Modi regime of imposing GST without adequate preparedness. (Courtesy: Ganashakti)

CPI formation, International Finance, Sitaram Yechury

Left parties today, 28th November 2015,  accused ruling BJP of “kowtowing” to the diktats of international finance capital and also hit out at the major NDA constituent, saying it is “totally devoid” of anti-imperialist content of national struggle for freedom as it never participated in it.
The parties alleged that divisive and anti-democratic policies pursued by BJP are ones which “suit” the interests of international finance capital, and asserted the fight against economic exploitation should be combined with struggle against all types of authoritarian forces, which too help imperialists.
“In India today, we have a situation, where, the ruling classes, now represented by BJP in power, are kowtowing to the dictates of international finance capital. Since they never participated in the national struggle for freedom, they are totally devoid of its anti-imperialist content,” CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury alleged.
Yechury made the remarks here during the inaugural session of a two-day seminar ‘Alternative to Global Capitalist Offensive: Asia’s Response’ organised by CPI as part of its events lined up to celebrate 90th year of its foundation.

New Delhi, Sep 20: CPI(M) General Secretary Com. Sitaram Yechury today demanded that the NDA government call a special session of Parliament to discuss issues concerning Dalits, including reservation in private sector jobs and special plans for the community.

“We had raised this demand when Modi Government assumed office at the Centre and we will again raise this demand in Parliament,” he said addressing a ‘Dalit Sansad’, organised by Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch here.

“Reservation has no meaning unless it is also allowed in private sector,” he said, adding that his party would continue to press the demand for a special session of Parliament for discussion on issues related to the Dalit community.

“We have been raising the demand of special (development) plans for SCs and STs for over two decades without any results and it needs to be discussed in a special session of Parliament,” the CPI(M) general secretary said.

Pointing to continuing “exploitation of Dalits in the country”, Yechury said, “India cannot develop into a strong modern nation unless Dalits are enabled to exercise their rights and protected from atrocities.”(PTI)

It is BJP, which is disrupting the Parliament – Sitaram Yechury

BJP Government, Parliament Disruption, Sitaram Yechury

New Delhi, Aug 1 : Ahead of an all-party meet convened by the government to break the Parliament logjam, CPI(M) today blamed the BJP-led government for disrupting the House, accusing it of trying to escape from accountability behind the veil of conducting a ‘debate for debate’s sake’.

The CPI (M) stuck to its demand for the resignation of Union Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh Chief Ministers, saying this was necessary for an impartial investigation into the charges against them.

“The opposition correctly maintains that a parliamentary discussion cannot be a substitute for an investigation. These are serious charges that need to be investigated at the highest level.

“Till such an investigation continues, as is the norm for any government servant, the accused demits office in order to ensure strict impartiality. It is precisely this that is being asked of this BJP government,” party General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said. (PTI)

BJP Poll Promises hollow – Sitaram Yechury

BJP shameless, Sitaram Yechury

New Delhi, Oct 30 : CPI(M) today targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying all his poll promises like “economic miracles of ‘achche din'” and bringing back black money are turning out to be “completely hollow”.

Noting that the Supreme Court compelled the government to place the list of 627 Indian account holders in a Geneva bank, senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said the apex court’s “unprecedented” castigation of the government “clearly show that this Modi government is shamelessly trying to protect those who stashed away black money abroad.”

“One after another, all the election promises made by the Prime Minister during his whirlwind nationwide campaign, in a corporate jet, are turning out to be completely hollow – full of bluster and no substance,” he said in an editorial in the upcoming issue of CPI(M) organ ‘People’s Democracy’.

He said the people had seen the “eagerness and enthusiasm of India Inc. in promoting Modi and acting as his ‘cheer leaders’ during the election campaign and even now. They had liberally financed the election campaign in an unprecedented manner.”

“May be, such ‘protection’ that this Modi government is providing to black money hoarders abroad is part of the ‘pay back time’ package for those who have rendered invaluable financial and material support during the election campaign.”

Noting that the government’s “so-called economic miracles and achhe din aanewale hain” had already been exposed, Yechury said, “now it is the turn of the PM’s bluster concerning the claim that his government will ensure that all the illegal black money stashed away in foreign banks in financial havens will be brought back to the country and used to improve the livelihood of the people.”

Along with this, the CPI(M) leader said the ruling BJP was “pursuing their hidden agenda of sharpening communal polarisation as their only way to consolidate the Hindu communal vote bank,” posing serious threat to India’s social unity and integrity.
