Don’t use Sabarimala issue as election campaign issue – Kerala State Election Commission.

The State Election Commission (SEC) Monday warned political parties in Kerala not to use the Sabarimala temple matter as a campaign issue.

Kerala Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Teeka Ram Meena told the media here that “citing or invoking” religious propaganda on the “Sabarimala issue” would be a clear violation of the model code of conduct.

“Inviting religious feelings, using any kind of Supreme Court judgement, invoking or soliciting the votes in the name of religion or by inciting religious feelings is a clear violation of the model code of conduct,” he said.

The CEC also said the commission would not allow any kind of violation that puts a particular political party at an advantage over another.

“Citing or invoking or doing something of religious propaganda on the Sabarimala issue by invoking the name of Sabari God, etc., will be a clear violation of the model code of conduct,” Meena said.

He added that the Sabarimala issue was a controversial matter as far as Kerala was concerned and political parties “need to draw a line to what extent they have to use it”.

“Tomorrow, I am holding a meeting with political parties in this regard and I will be requesting them not to unnecessarily use this religious feeling or religious traditions to solicit votes as this may create some religious tensions among people.

If that happens, action will be taken against those responsible,” Meena said.

Kerala witnessed widespread violence by devotees and right-wing activists after the state government decided to implement the Supreme Court’s September 28, 2018 verdict allowing women of all ages into the Sabarimala temple.

The BJP has already pinned its hope on the Sabarimala issue as it believes that it was able to create a momentum among its workers.

The central leadership of the saffron party brought back former BJP state chief Kummanam Rajashekharan, who was appointed as Mizoram governor nine months ago, to lead the party in the state.

The Lok Sabha elections will begin on April 11 and continue for over a month till May 19 across seven phases, followed by counting of votes on May 23.

Kerala will go to the polls on April 23.

The Election Commission also plans to provide braille election photo identity cards to visually challenged voters across the country.

Lok Sabha elections will begin on April 11 and continue for over a month till May 19 across seven phases. The counting of votes will be held on May 23, the Election Commission announced Sunday, kick-starting a mega electoral battle. (PTI)

Maharashtra – 1300 farmer suicides from January to June 2015

Farmers, Maharashtra, suicide

The two  main ruling parties in the country always speak about the sad plight of the farmers; but do nothing for them. The continuous suicides of the farmers in the country is a severe black blot on the face of the ruling parties.

The latest information is that in Maharashtra alone 1300 farmers have committed suicide during the six months from January 2015. In 2014, it was a total of 1,981 for the whole year.

When are the ruling parties  going to seriously think about the plight of the farmers, who cultivate and feed the people of the country and solve their problems. Of course, what is the interest for those crorepatis, who form more than half of the M.P.s and many of the Ministers, on the sad condition of the poor farmers?

BSNL, EPF, Non-payment

NEW DELHI: Over 12,100 establishments have been found defaulting on their PF contribution till December this fiscal and action is being initiated against them, Parliament was informed today.

Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, West Bengal, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh are among the states with highest number of such instances in the last four years up to December 2014-15.

“Instances of non-deposit of contribution by some establishments, covered under Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions have come to the notice of EPFO as they have violated the provisions of the Act and schemes framed thereunder,” Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.(Courtesy : TOI)

BSNL is one  of these firms. The EPF for the contract workers are not being paid in many places by the Contractor/BSNL. This is most shameful for a PSU like BSNL. The BSNL Management should take immediate action to ensure contribution to the EPF.

FDI increase, Insurance, opposition from unions

The government is proposing for increasing FDI in Insurance Sector from 26% to 49%. A Cabinet Note is being prepared for the purpose. It is to be noted that the governments, both UPA and NDA had been trying for the same but could not do so for the last two decades, because of the stiff opposition in the Parliament.
But this time, the BJP seems to be determined since it has got the numbers in Lok Sabha. But it is difficult to have the numbers in Rajya Sabha.
The Unions in the Insurance sector has been strongly opposing any increase of FDI in the sector. It is sure that it is not an easy matter for the government to increase the FDI.

Budget Session

The Budget Session of the Parliament is starting today, 7th July 2014. It is certain that the issue of continuous price hike and other issues will be raised by the Opposition parties. Congress has stated that it will behave in the Parliament as the BJP has done when they were in opposition. Does it mean that there will be continued walk-outs and disturbance?
The Left Parties are expected to raise the proposed changes in the labour laws by Rajasthan Government which are against the workers and prompted by the employers.
