Palestine should be recognised as an independent nation – Arab Summit.

Arab Summit, Palestine, US

Arab Summit Conference held at Amman has demanded that Palestine should be granted status as an independent nation and the proposal of the US President Donald Trump for a single nation for Israel-Palestine is not acceptable.

Despite the full support of the United Nations and massive majority in it for grant of recognition to Palestine, US continues its support to Israel and against the interests of Palestine.

US and Israel should accept the decision of UN and bring peace in the area instead of creating conflicts. India should continue  its time tested stand in support of Palestine, instead of keeping silence on the issue.

Kerala, LDF, School Books

During the UDF government in Kerala, there were always complaints that school text books were not supplied in time. Sometimes, they were supplied almost at the end of the school year only.

The LDF Government with Com. Pinarayi Vijayan as Chief Minister has acted fast. Even before the school year starts in June, the books have been printed and is being supplied to the schools. Out of the 2.60crore books required, 1.80 crores have been printed and 1.60 crores despatched to the concerned schools. It has been assured by the education minister Com.C.Ravindranath that the balance number of books will be printed and supplied before the next school year starts.

Congratulations to the Government for the good work!

Attacks on foreigners – Are Indians becoming intolerant?

Racial discrimination

India had always from old times welcomed foreigners who have come as tourists, traders, students etc. They were respected and highly regarded. After India got independence, the same hospitality continued.

It is unfortunate and condemnable that incidents had been reported of Africans and Chinese nationals having  been attacked. In Delhi, many incidents have been reported of North East people being attacked and harassed. There seems to be a racial colour. Such attacks brings a bad name to the country.

India has been strongly protesting against the racial attacks on its citizens in Australia, USA etc. There can not be double standards. Government of  India should strongly deal with the racial attacks in India and the culprits punished.

It is to be remembered that India is a secular democratic republic and no racial discrimination should be allowed. Any such move from any side should be strongly dealt with.

In the name of reforms, PSU Banks are being strangulated

Merger with SBI, PSU Banks

The Modi government has now focussed  its attack on the public sector banks, in order to allow a free hand for the private sector. Just look into the following:

  1. 5 Affiliated Banks viz. State Bank of Travancore, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of HYderabad, State Bank of Patiala and State Bank of as also Mahila Bank are going to be merged with State Bank of India w.e.f. 1st April 2017. SBT, which is headquartered in Kerala has been in existence for 72 years and has got 1,177 Branches all over India, 1767 ATMs, 14,892 employees and a deposit as Rs. 1,60,473 crores, It has got a capital of Rs. 36,123 crore and a profit of about Rs. 400 crore annually. It has got a large customer base. This is the case with the other SBI affiliated Banks. After merger, thousands of branches are going to be closed and about 10,000 workers may became surplus and no new appointment will be made in the vacancies through retirement. VRS/CRS also may be implemented. Thousands of jobs are going to be lost. What is the necessity of merger except to reduce the workforce and close the branches to favour the private sector banks to expand their services and garner profit?
  2. The Central government has directed 10 PSU Banks including IDBI Bank, Central Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank and United Bank to close down loss making branches and selling their shares in the market. This will not only reduce the area of operation of these banks, but also will favour the private banks to increase their area of service.
  3. Instead of taking serious action to recover the Non-Performing Assets (NPA – unpaid loans) of lakhs of crores of rupees from the corporates, the government is closing its eyes and allowing the borrowers to escape with out payment. Case of Vijay Mallya is only one of such thousands of cases.

These anti – PSU Banks policy and decisions of the government need to be strongly opposed and defeated.

Free Maruti Workers!

jail, Maruti workers

I am herewith giving below an appeal issued by the Maruti Suzuki Workers Union to all to support their struggle for releasing the Maruti workers who are still in jail.

Appeal to Observe 4th/5th April as All-India & International Day of Protest:

Free the Maruti Workers!

Comrades,

You are aware of the repression on us by the nexus of Company management-Police-Government, as 13 MSWU members have been sentenced to Life Imprisonment and 4 more workers handed 5 years by the Gurgaon Sessions Court on 18 March 2017 – without a shred of evidence, and solely on the false witness accounts by the management.

The MSWU body members have been targeted because they have been the leadership of the struggle since 2011 against illegal contract worker system and for Trade Union rights and dignity of labour. It is a ‘class attack’ as in the words of Maruti CEO RC Bhargava. All workers know that this manifestly unjust verdict is to ‘teach a lesson’ to us by those in power that we should not fight for our rights and dignity on the shop-floor and beyond.

But against this repression, thousands of workers in this industrial belt and across India and world are protesting. On the evening of the Verdict on 18th May, 30000 workers in Gurgaon-Manesar did tool down strike against the injustice. The Maruti Suzuki Mazdoor Sangh (MSMS)–the joint platform of Maruti Suzuki factories–had given a call for Protest on the martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh-Rajguru-Sukhdev on 23rd March in Manesar. Despite prohibitory orders of Section 144, thousands of workers from the industrial belts in Haryana and Rajasthan rallied in protest from factory after factory in Manesar. A letter from the Jailed workers was read out, and a call given to intensify the struggle for the release of the Jailed workers. It was also decided to give economic assistance to families of the Jailed workers.

On this 23rd March Protest program, we already appealed to all to observe 4th April as an all-India Day and International of Protest. Preparations for the same have already begun in various places. Meanwhile, recognized Central Trade Unions later issued a call to organize all-India Protest in solidarity with the Maruti Suzuki workers on 5th April. So, We appeal to all workers and pro-worker forces to observe 4th/5th April 2017 as all-India and International Days of Protest and show solidarity in whatever ways possible.

The struggling workers in the Gurgaon-Manesar-Bawal-Neemrana industrial belt in the states of Haryana-Rajasthan are showing that they will not relent on their legitimate rights and strengthen their class unity against the capitalist onslaught. We have also received great courage and thank the amazing show of solidarity of workers with the struggle for Justice of Maruti workers. Since the last few days, there have been protests by lakhs of workers in this and other industrial belts and by various workers, student-youth, human rights and other democratic organizations in over 30 cities-towns in the country. We also greatly encouraged and thank the amazing show of international working class solidarity with protests, deputations and solidarity positions and actions in over 21 countries. This is a long battle, and only the growing force of the movement and wider solidarity can take the struggle forward.

Provisional Working Committee,

Maruti Suzuki Workers Union

Kayyur Martyrs

March 29th 2017 is the 74th anniversary of the martyrdom of Comrades Madathil Appu, Koyithattil Chirukandan, Podora Kunhambu Nair and Pallikkal Aboobacker who were hanged by the British rulers for organising the kisans against the exploiting landlords and the hated British rule. They are the  Kayyur Martyrs who inspired generations of people and workers to fight against the British Government and later the Indian government which continued the anti-people policy.

Red Salute to the Kayyur Comrades! It is our duty to continue the struggle for the cause of the people, which these martyrs have shown by sacrificing their lives!

Don’t attack the food habits of peoples, animals

Beef, strike, UP

All the meat shops and abattoirs in U.P. are on closed and on strike against the decision of  Yogi Aditynath Government to ban beef and also punish the ‘offenders’. Beef is the food of a large number of people and restrictions and ban on the same will adversely and badly affect their lives. This also affects the animals like lion, tiger etc. in the zoos.

Brute majority in the elections is not a licence to start anti-people, anti-animal drive and cutting short the employment of thousands of people.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has stated that the action is only against those not having valid licences, but in practice it is against all who deals with beef, meat etc. as alleged by the affected traders and people.

The UP government should stop this unwarranted attack on the people without any delay.

End this Injustice to Casual Labour

28 Tuesday Mar 2017

Casual labour, Regularisation

There are about 3,000 casual labour, mostly recruited through employment exchange in DOT and now working in BSNL, who have completed about 25 to 30 years of service and are still not regularised. They were fully eligible to be regularised as per  the agreement between the Federations and the government at the time of formation of BSNL in 2000. It was only due to the delay and negligence of the field level management in sending the details to the corporate office that these casual labours were denied regularisation.  The plea of the Corporate office that they can not now be regularised in view of the Supreme Court judgment in a 2006 case is without substance. Casual labour have been regularised as a special case in many central government departments even after 2006. BSNL can also do the same.

It is only justice and correct that all these casual labour should be regularised with out further delay so that they will get better wages and pensionary benefits for their long period of serving the nation.
