Central Government should handover the Relief Amount to Kerala Disaster Relief Fund

31 Friday Aug 2018

Employees of Central government  and central PSUs, outside Kerala are also donating one day salary to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief  Fund. But his amount is directly taken in to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. This is unwanted and unjustified. The central government should not try to rob what is given towards Kerala relief Fund.

The central government should change its policy and hand over the amount to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

New Delhi, Aug 18 : The members of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) staged a protest outside the Home Ministry here today, questioning the Centre why the Kerala floods were not declared a national disaster.
The protesters alleged that they were manhandled and lathicharged.
They submitted a complaint to the deputy commissioner of police, New Delhi, alleging that women students were subjected to “derogatory comments” and racist remarks were made by the policemen against some students.
The police, however, claimed that no force was used against the students, adding that they were detained at the Parliament Street police station for about an hour.
The police said they were looking into the allegations. (PTI)

Kerala Disaster Relief Fund

The first phase of the disaster relief ie. evacuating and accommodating the people are over. Except 4,62, 456 people in 435 camps, all have returned to their houses. The left out people also will be leaving the camps as soon as the water goes down and they can return to their homes. More than 12,000 homes have been collapsed and new buildings have to be constructed. Even those which have not crumpled down have to cleaned with about two thee feet mud and all kinds of wastes including the dead bodies of the animals. 3,64,000 birds, 3,285 big animals and 14,274 small animals are dead as per reports. About one lakh volunteers, including police, fire service, youth from all parts of the state, college students, employees – all are on the job of cleaning the homes and making it ready for occupation. The furniture, kitchen equipment, electricity connections – restoring / purchasing is a big job. The government is helping, but that will only a part of the expenditure.

302 persons, including women and children have lost their valuable lives. It is only due to the combined efforts of the government, the fishermen, the Navy, Army, police, government officials, volunteers etc. that more causality could be avoided.

Now it is the second phase of restoration and reconstruction. The preliminary loss was calculated as Rs. 20,000 crore, but detailed examination will show it is much more. 40,000 km of PWD roads and 5,000 km of National Highway road have been destroyed. For the restoration of the same, more than Rs. 6,000 crores are required. The government will give Rs. 4 lakh to those whose houses have been destroyed.Where the house and the land have been washed away due to landslide, up Rs, 6 lakhs will be given. Government have printed and is supplying the books for the students, whose books have been destroyed. Everything has to start afresh. It is not only restoration that the government wants, but building a new Kerala. Funds are required and the Chief Minister has called for liberal donations from all.

The response to the appeal of the Kerala Chief Minister for liberal donation to the Disaster Relief Fund is being responded enthusiastically. The state employees, state PSU employees etc. have offered to pay one month’s salary as donation. The Governor as also top IAS officers have offered the same. Malayalees all over the world are sending liberal donations. Workers and people from all over India is sending donations. Kerala thanks all those who support us at this time of difficulty.

This is the time to support Kerala. I am sure that it will be responded well.

Kerala, relief collection, Tripura

The BJP in Tripura is showing their anti-human attitude by attacking and preventing the CPI(M) workers from collecting relief fund for Kerala. The statement of the CPI(M) PB in this connection is given below:

“The Tripura State Committee of the CPI(M) has been collecting funds from the people for relief work in flood-affected Kerala. There has been a good response from the public.

However, on August 27, in three places – Maharajganj Bazar, Agartala, Khowai Town and Belonia Town – BJP workers physically stopped CPI(M) leaders and activists from collecting funds. Senior leaders of the Party and elected representatives like Badal Chowdhury, MLA, Sudhan Das, MLA, Basudeb Majumder, former MLA were among those who have prevented by BJP men in the presence of the police. In Khowai Town, the collection team led by Padma Debbarma, Secretary and Nirmal Biswas, MLA were not only stopped from collecting funds but also physically assaulted.

These attacks and anti-democratic stance of the ruling party is typical of the situation that is prevailing in Tripura ever since the BJP government came into office. Even collection of money for humanitarian relief is subjected to attack.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns these anti-democratic and anti-social activities. It demand that the state government take immediate steps to enable normal functioning by the opposition.”

Kerala floods

The massive floods and landslides that Kerala faced has been one of worst that has taken away hundreds of precious lives. More than 10 lakh people have been staying in the 5,645 Relief camps due to destruction / collapse / flooding of their houses by the heavy rain / dam releasing waters.Hundreds of kilometres of roads, hundreds of bridges and entire restructure have been destroyed. The total loss will come more than 20,000 crore on a modest estimate. Once the entire situation is reviewed, it may be more.

The Kerala Government and the people, keeping away all differences have participated in the relief operations by which the loss of lives could be restricted to the present. The army, police, fire force, fisherman, youths, workers – all has done the maximum to save lives and give relief work. Funds are required for not only restructure, but to improve things.

Central Government has giver relief of Rs. 600 crore and the people expect further. People have given money liberally and will give further. Food, clothes, medicines are being supplied to all those who have suffered. Their houses have to be repaired / newly built.
Under these circumstances more and more funds are required.

I am sure that the BSNL employees and workers, Pensioners and others will, as usual, rise to the occasion and donate liberally to the Kerala Chief Minister’ Relief Fund at the earliest.

Kerala Floods – AIBDA call for relief

20 Monday Aug 2018

The unprecedented heavy rains continue to play havoc in the flood situation in Kerala to its worst. 357 people have lost their lives up to the morning on 18h August, lakhs of people are shifted to relief camps, thousands are stranded and rescue operations are in full swing despite bad weather. Lakhs of people have lost everything as their houses are swept away in the floods. 27 dams were compelled to be opened which aggravated the flood situation and all the rivers are overflowing. Bridges, roads, electrical and telecom installations, rails etc are damaged and in some cases destroyed completely. So, life in Kerala has virtually come to a stand still as traffic through road, rail and air is stopped.

This is an unusual situation in the history of Kerala for the last 100 years. The government of Kerala is managing the situation most effectively with the support of the people, army, navy, air force, police, fire force and numerous non-government organisations. The huge financial burden of the devastating disaster cannot be borne with the government fund alone. The Chief Minister of Kerala has appealed to all for generous contributions to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. AIBDPA CHQ requests all the units to extend an helping hand to the people of Kerala at this period of distress by contributing, what ever little it may be, to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund directly to bank account ; State Bank Of India, City Branch, Thiruvananthapuram- account No.67319948232, IFSC : SBIN0070028 , with intimation to CHQ. Kerala Circle Branch has already taken the initiative to collect the relief fund and it is worth mentioning that Kannur District Branch donated Rs.1 lakh on 13-08-2018 and Kollam District Rs.50,000 on 15-08-2018.

So let us rush the donations; no time to lose. (Courtesy: AIBDPA Website)

Kerala floods

The death toll in Kerala has climbed to 72 as the state is reeling under one of the worst floods in history. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had once again called PM Modi on Thursday to seek more aid considering the situation. He also sought for additional Army personnel and helicopters. For the first time in history, the state has opened 35 of its 39 dams. Meanwhile, operations at the Cochin International Airport have been suspended till 2 pm on Saturday due to flooding in and around the airport. A red alert has been issued in all the 14 districts of the state.

Train services have been disrupted and road transport services are in disarray with stretches of roads coming under water. Officials said a holiday has been declared for educational institutions in all districts barring Kasaragod tomorrow while colleges and universities have postponed exams. As the situation became grave, the state government sought the help of more teams of army personnel, National Disaster Response Force and Army Engineering. (Courtesy: Latest News)
