Centre sells PSUs, Kerala make PSUs profitable

24 Sunday Jun 2018

Due to the anti-PSU and pro-corporate policy of the central government, most of the central PSUs are on the way to loss. The government is aggressively disinvesting or selling them against the interest of the nation and the concerned workers. National carrier Air India, BSNL, MTNL – all prestigious PSUs are for sale.

In Kerala, you see another picture. During the Congress / UDF regime almost all the 45 or so PSUs were in loss and it amounted to about Rs. 134 crore. During the last two years of LDF rule with Pinarayi Vijayan as Chief Minister, some of them have already turned profitable and the total profit of the PSUs has come up to Rs.100 crore, wiping out the earlier loss. A great change indeed!

Further the State government has offered to take over the central PSUs in the state which are proposed to be sold. But the centre says that it will be sold only to private corporates. in one case, it stated that the state government can participate in the auction along with the private companies! What a generosity!

This is the difference between the Modi Government and the Pinarayi Government. The former wants to sell the nation’s assets, while the latter wants them to improve and to increase the national assets.

The LDF Government in Kerala has decided to form a separate company for payment of social welfare pensions to ensure that these pensions are regularly paid to the eligible persons. This will be 100% owned by the government. All those who are above the age of 60 are paid welfare pension of rs. 1,100 by the government. Many other pensions are also there. The funds will be given to the company by the state government and it will pay the pension monthly to the concerned. This is much hailed by the pensioners.

Congratulations to the Kerala Government for streamlining the pension payment.

Pinarayi Government in Kerala has opened new roads for safeguarding social justice. SC/ST persons are appointed as priests in temples managed by the government. This is a great achievement for the dalits, which has been heartily welcomed by the progressive section of the society. At the same time, the economically poor section in the forward castes have been granted reservation in temple appointments. Welfare pension is granted to all above 60 years, which has been doubled this year from the last. Now it is Rs.1,100 and is expected to be increased next year.

Adivasis are allotted land in a time scheduled manner. Special appointment for adivasis in Police and Excise is ensured. 28,681 houses have been constructed for SC/ST and allotted.

Transgenders are brought to the mainstream through appointments in government services etc.

Rs. 2000 crore package approved for welfare of fishermen etc.

Yes, the LDF Government in Kerala is implementing welfare measures in a big way for socially backward people. More can be expected.

During the last two years the Kerala Government has appointed 70,000 persons through Public Service Commission and created 13,000 new vacancies. Compare this with the Central Government who have reduced lakhs of posts and instructed ban of creation of new posts. Lakhs of vacancies exist in essential service like Railways. The number of employees in central government has been reduced by more than 3 lakhs during the four year period of Modi Government.

In the state PSUs also new appointments are being made. Abut 14 PSUs, which were in loss during the UDF Government have been made profitable during the Pinarayi Government.

This is part of the LIFE Mission which aims at own homes for all the families in Kerala. The Pinarayi Government  has taken this great responsibility so that Kerala will become a state with nobody without a home.

Next step is construction of houses to those, who have land but  unable to build a house. There are 1203 in this list. The third programme  is to construct houses for those who do not have land or house. 9257 persons are in this list.

Withisnthis tenure of the government all this will be completed in a time-framed manner.

Kerala LDF Govt. Marches Ahead (6) – Reduces the petrol price by Re.1/-, Waiving of agricultural loans

Kerala LDF Government

While the central government is increasing the price of petrol almost every day and despite strong demand that it should be reduced by lowering the central taxes, no action was taken. Of course one paisa  on litre was announced! But the Kerala LDF government, reduced its taxes by Re.1/ to give relief to the people.

While the Central Government is not prepared to fix remuneration price of agricultural products and waiving of the agricultural loans as assured in its election manifesto, the Kerala LDF government has announced waiving of the agricultural loans.

This is the difference. While the BJP government at the centre is completely refusing the give some relief to the common people reeling  under the increased price rise, the Kerala LDF government with its limited finance is  supporting and helping the people.

Kerala LDF is people friendly, Central government is corporate friendly.
