Double Speak of BJP – Statement by CPI(M)

BJP, Clashes, CPI(M)

New Delhi, August 4: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

BJP Double-speak on Kerala

The BJP leadership is indulging in doublespeak regarding the recent clashes between the CPI(M) and BJP-RSS workers in Thiruvananthapuram district in Kerala. The Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, had urged the Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan to take adequate measures to stop the clashes. The Kerala Chief Minister convened a meeting of CPI(M) and BJP-RSS state leaders on July 31 to discuss ways and means to ensure peace and avoid such incidents.

The meeting took certain decisions and decided to hold similar meetings in three districts as a follow up. These meetings were also held and they have provided a framework and both sides have committed to see that conflicts are avoided and the police takes action against anyone resorting to violence. An all-parties meeting is also being held on August 6.

It is at such a juncture that the central leadership of the BJP and Union Minister have raised baseless and partisan allegations against the CPI(M) in Kerala. Bhupendra Yadav, General Secretary of the BJP and Union Minister Smriti Irani, have even questioned the sincerity of the initiative by the Kerala Chief Minister which has yielded results.

So, while the Home Minister adopts one position, another Union Minister and the BJP leadership take a contrary stand. This clearly shows that the BJP-RSS are not keen to see that peace is restored and there are no political clashes.

It should be recalled that the BJP-RSS began their attacks on the CPI(M) the very day election results were announced in May 2016. A CPI(M) worker was killed in Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s constituency while participating in a victory procession.

Since the formation of the LDF government, thirteen CPI(M) workers and others have been killed by RSS-BJP men (see list attached). More than 200 Party members and sympathisers have been injured and hospitalized. Over 165 houses and 51 Party offices and many mass organisation offices have also been attacked, set on fire or vandalized.

The game-plan is clear. Resort to provocative actions and uncalled for physical assaults against the CPI(M) workers and raise the cry that the CPI(M) is resorting to violence and blame the Kerala government for not stopping such attacks.

The people of Kerala know very well who is responsible for the political violence, at a time when the LDF government is seriously engaged in implementing the developmental programmes set out in the election manifesto of the Left and Democratic Front. The people of Kerala who continue to maintain the highest level of communal amity and social harmony will surely rise to defeat such efforts at disrupting peace and normalcy in the state.

CPI(M), Modi, No gain, US Visit

New Delhi, June 28: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

PM Modi’s US Visit: No Gains for India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fifth visit to the United States of America during these three years has resulted in very little gains for India or even attention to be paid by the US to India’s immediate concerns. The Joint Statement issued with President Trump only reconfirms India’s status as a subordinate ally of the USA.

The status of H1B visas, crucial for lakhs of Indian youth and the IT industry, the racial attacks on the Indians in the US, the US withdrawal from the Paris climate change commitments etc have found no mention. On the other hand, Prime Minister Modi committed India to further opening of its economy. This will be done while India has sharply increased its purchase of US defence equipments, particularly two billion dollar worth of aerial drones.

On foreign policy matters, PM Modi has reneged on many a past commitments of India. For the first time, India has joined the US in condemning DPRK, North Korea and in aligning India with the US on the South China Sea dispute. What is worse is that India now appears to have subscribed to the US position of equating terrorism with Islam negating India’s longstanding position reiterated even by this government’s spokespersons in Indian Parliament on several occasions that terrorism in India knows no religion.

Overall, this visit of PM Modi to USA has further cemented India as a subordinate junior ally of US imperialism.

CPI(M), sale of cattle

New Delhi, May 27: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The notification of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change that bans sale of cattle for slaughter is an atrocious attempt by the Modi government to give legal cover for its wholly communal and divisive agenda to impose a diet code on the country.

It will destroy the livelihood of crores of farmers involved in animal husbandry, eliminate traditional cattle fairs, put an unfair burden on farmers to care for useless cattle. This further burdens the farmers who are increasingly resorting to distress suicides due to escalating input costs. It will also impact on the leather industry and the meat export industry affecting the livelihood of lakhs of people.

The notification is also an encroachment on the rights of the states under whose jurisdiction such issues fall.

The CPI(M) strongly condemns and opposes the notification and demands its withdrawal.

VII CPC govt. decisions disappointing – CPI(M)

CPI(M), VII CPC

New Delhi, June 30 : The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The pay hike for Central government employees announced by the Central government has been disappointing. Based on the Seventh Central Pay Commission’s recommendations, there is only an increase of 14.2 per cent in the emoluments in terms of gross salary and the increase in the take-home pay is just 7.4 per cent for the lowest category. The Central Government has deferred the decision on the revision in allowances.

The ratio between the lowest and the highest scale continues to be wide with the ratio being 1:14.

It is unfortunate that the government did not consider it worthwhile to have discussions with the employees’ organizations before making the announcement on salaries and pension.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands that the government hear the views of the employees organizations in the matter and on that basis to make a revised announcement.

Stop RSS-BJP Attack in Kerala – CPI(M)

CPI(M), RSS-BJP Attack in Kerala

New Delhi, May 22: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The BJP is leveling false allegations about violence by the CPIM) against BJP workers in Kerala. BJP workers have held a demonstration at the Central Committee office of the CPI(M) and indulged in vandalism.

The BJP leadership is adopting a hypocritical and dishonest position about what has actually happened in Kerala.

On the 19th of May when the results were declared, CPI(M) workers took out a victory procession in Pinarayi which is in the constituency of Chief Minister designate, Pinarayi Vijayan. This procession was attacked by the BJP-RSS workers resulting in the death of C.V. Raveendran, a 53 year old member of the CPI(M). His son Jishen and four others were injured.

In Kasargode district in the Kanhangad constituency, the victory procession of the LDF candidate and sitting CPI MLA E Chandrashekaran was attacked by BJP workers. Chandrashekaran’s hand was fractured and CPI(M) leader A K Narayanan and others were injured. On the same day, a bomb was hurled at a CPI(M) rally in Mattanoor, Kannur district, where four people were injured.

In Trikkaripur in Kasargode district, BJP men attacked youth workers of the CPI(M) in which one comrade was injured.

In Nemom, Thiruvananthapuram district, BJP workers attacked the local committee office of the CPI(M) after the results were announced. There were numerous such attacks across the state.

It is evident from the above incidents that it was the BJP which initiated this bout of violence after the results were declared.

The people of Kerala gave a resounding verdict in favour of the LDF. It is against this democratic verdict of the people that the BJP launched attacks in various places against the CPI(M) and the LDF. Such attacks will not be tolerated by the people.

Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Cabinet Minister, instead of issuing threats to the CPI(M) should ensure that his Party unit in Kerala stops making such violent attacks.

As far as the CPI(M) and the LDF are concerned, they will contribute to maintaining peace and avoiding any clashes. (Courtesy: Ganashakti)

CPI(M) opposes US military bases in India

CPI(M), India-Us Military agreement, Protest

CPI(M) has issued statement strongly opposing US military bases in India, which is reproduced below:

“No Bases for US Armed Forces

“The Modi government has taken the dangerous step of deepening military collaboration with the United States by agreeing to allow US armed forces to use base facilities in Indian naval and air force bases.

The US Defence Secretary and the Indian Defence Minister have announced an in principle agreement has been reached for a Logistics Exchange  Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA). This is just another name for the Logistic Support  Agreement (LSA) that the United States enters into with military allies like Philippines, South Korea and Japan. Unlike what the Defence Minister says, refueling, maintenance and repair facilities for American ships and airplanes will require the  stationing of US armed forces personnel on Indian soil on a regular basis.Along with this agreement, the Defence Minister has indicated that two other agreements are on the anvil, Communication and Information Security Memorandum of Agreement (CISMOA) and Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA).  These will make the Indian armed forces command and control structure integrated with the US armed forces. In doing so, the BJP government has crossed a line which no other government has done  since independence – converting India into a fullfledged military ally of the United States.

By this, the Modi government has compromised national sovereignty and the strategic autonomy of the country.  All political parties and patriotic citizens should oppose this surrender to the USA.   The Modi government must be told that these anti-national steps do not have the support of the people. It should immediately retract from signing the Logistics Agreement.”

Stop Violent Attacks on Citizens – CPI(M)

CPI(M), Stop attack on citizens

New Delhi, February 24: The Polit Bureau of the communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Polit Bureau of the CPI (M) expresses its grave concern and anguish over the growing signs of hatred and use of violence unilaterally to intimidate individuals, groups, identities who hold views contrary to those of the perpetrators.

We are shocked over the acid attack on the social activist turned AAP functionary Soni Sori in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. Sori had to be brought to Delhi for urgent medical attention and continue to be in hospital.

We are outraged by the brazen violence by the mob belonging to an extreme right wing group to force a policeman, Yusuf Sheikh in Latur in Maharashtra, to be paraded and install a saffron flag in Ambedkar Chowk which was in a sensitive part of the town. As a part his call of duty he was trying to restrict these miscreants to carry out their intention which could lead to repercussions leading to law and order problem. Sheikh grievously injured and undergoing treatment in Latur has reportedly complained “I phoned the control room and appraised them about the situation. Using my mobile, I called the in-charge of the Renapur station on his cell phone. But still, they failed to send reinforcements in time. The policemen reached Pangaon by 10.10 am. By then, the mob had assaulted me brutally and humiliated me by parading me.”

Similar violence was let loose on Kanhaiya Kumar and academics and journalists while he was in police custody and was being produced in the Sessions Court in the Patiala House precinct.

Particularly disturbing is the inaction, complicity and failure to apprehend the perpetrators by the law enforcement agencies. It is also clear that such brazen acts which show utter disregard for laws of the land could not be spreading rapidly but for this complicit role. No doubt, the overall atmosphere in the country which smacks of intolerance, hatred and polarisation has apparently emboldened the perpetrators.

We demand that the Central Government, particularly the Prime Minister, who recently claimed that he is the PM of the whole country and not just of the BJP, to come out categorically and initiate measures to stop such blatant violations of law and the constitutional principles. Citizens must be emphatically reassured, constitutionally will not be allowed to be breached.
