Hypocrisy of Fight against Corruption

BJP, corruption

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Hypocrisy of Fight against Corruption

At the BJP’s National Executive, the Prime Minister thundered that “there would be no compromise or leniency on corruption”.

The CPI(M)’s position on fighting growing political corruption is well-known, both in its conduct and its concrete proposals to end this scourge.

The hypocrisy of the Prime Minister and the BJP government lies in the fact that while they are pursuing corruption cases against leaders of the opposition, this government in these three years has not even implemented the law enacted by the Parliament to establish the Lokpal.

There is no step being taken by this government to investigate scams like Vyapam; Srijan housing scam in Bihar; the Birla-Sahara diaries; the Panama papers; the Lalit Modi case; the mining scandal in Karnataka that led to the resignation of BJP Chief Minister in the state; land grab case by BJP leaders in Maharashtra and Uttarakhand; PDS scam in Chattisgarh; the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) scam etc. etc. The list of corruption scams in BJP ruled states goes on and on. Yet there is no investigation in any one of these.

Clearly, the Prime Minister’s exhortations are a cover to selectively choose cases against political opponents in the name of fighting corruption while protecting his own party and governments who are involved in allegations of huge corruption at high places.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands that all such allegations must be subject to an impartial enquiry and action be taken against the guilty.

Double Speak of BJP – Statement by CPI(M)

BJP, Clashes, CPI(M)

New Delhi, August 4: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

BJP Double-speak on Kerala

The BJP leadership is indulging in doublespeak regarding the recent clashes between the CPI(M) and BJP-RSS workers in Thiruvananthapuram district in Kerala. The Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, had urged the Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan to take adequate measures to stop the clashes. The Kerala Chief Minister convened a meeting of CPI(M) and BJP-RSS state leaders on July 31 to discuss ways and means to ensure peace and avoid such incidents.

The meeting took certain decisions and decided to hold similar meetings in three districts as a follow up. These meetings were also held and they have provided a framework and both sides have committed to see that conflicts are avoided and the police takes action against anyone resorting to violence. An all-parties meeting is also being held on August 6.

It is at such a juncture that the central leadership of the BJP and Union Minister have raised baseless and partisan allegations against the CPI(M) in Kerala. Bhupendra Yadav, General Secretary of the BJP and Union Minister Smriti Irani, have even questioned the sincerity of the initiative by the Kerala Chief Minister which has yielded results.

So, while the Home Minister adopts one position, another Union Minister and the BJP leadership take a contrary stand. This clearly shows that the BJP-RSS are not keen to see that peace is restored and there are no political clashes.

It should be recalled that the BJP-RSS began their attacks on the CPI(M) the very day election results were announced in May 2016. A CPI(M) worker was killed in Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s constituency while participating in a victory procession.

Since the formation of the LDF government, thirteen CPI(M) workers and others have been killed by RSS-BJP men (see list attached). More than 200 Party members and sympathisers have been injured and hospitalized. Over 165 houses and 51 Party offices and many mass organisation offices have also been attacked, set on fire or vandalized.

The game-plan is clear. Resort to provocative actions and uncalled for physical assaults against the CPI(M) workers and raise the cry that the CPI(M) is resorting to violence and blame the Kerala government for not stopping such attacks.

The people of Kerala know very well who is responsible for the political violence, at a time when the LDF government is seriously engaged in implementing the developmental programmes set out in the election manifesto of the Left and Democratic Front. The people of Kerala who continue to maintain the highest level of communal amity and social harmony will surely rise to defeat such efforts at disrupting peace and normalcy in the state.

BJP, Intolerance

The ruling party at the centre shows its intolerance at any criticism of the government or the party, out side or in the Parliament. Today again it happened while Com.P.Karunakaran, leader of the CPI(M) in Lok Sabha was raising the issue of the RSS attacks on Com.Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary, CPI)M) and also murder of CPI(M) members in Kerala. He was not being allowed to speak. The Speaker, Smt. Sumitra Mahajan, had to admonish the shouting BJP members. As BJP members protested again, the Speaker said that the BJP members should not turn the House into a ‘Kurukshetra’ but ‘Dharmakshetra’ where they could debate issues.

BJP, Congress, corruption

Erode (TN), Jul 23 : Former CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat has lashed out at the BJP government at the Centre, saying it was no different from the previous UPA regime in “indulging in corruption.”

“There is no difference between the present BJPgovernment and the erstwhile UPA Government regardingcorruption,” he said at a public meeting here last night.

“Both have indulged in corrupt practices. Butunfortunately the DMK and AIADMK have failed to make anycomment in Parliament on such corruption by the BJP,” he said.

He questioned the Dravidian parties’ silence on issuesrelating to External Affairs Minister SushmaSwaraj and twoBJP chief ministers of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

He wanted the Prime Minister to remove the three frompower and conduct an inquiry.

“BJP captured power at the Centre promising acorrupt-free government, but during the last 14 months of itsrule, it has indulged in heavy corrupt practices,” he alleged.

He claimed that only the CPI-M and left parties in thecountry were raising their voice against corruption.

Karat said the party would stage demonstrations andconduct meetings all over the country against BJP government’s”anti-farmers” policy and its “corrupt practices.” (PTI)

BJP and Congress defaulters in submitting election accounts to Eelection Commission

Accounts, BJP, Congress, EC

The main two ruling parties in the country are Congress and BJP. Congress was the ruling party at the centre for last ten years and BJP is the present ruling party after the general elections.

They have so many things in common. They are full supporters of the New-Economic Policy, they want to change labour laws to suit the corporates and big business, they are anti-left, most of their M.P.s and MLAs are crorepatis and so on.

Now in one more sector they are together; in not submitting the election accounts to the Election Commission. These two national parties have not submitted the accounts, though the stipulated period of three months are over by August. All other national Parties have already submitted their accounts.

We do not know whether an amendment to the Election Commission rules will be brought by the BJP government to the effect that the party in Government need not submit the accounts? It seems probable seeing the large number of amendments being presented in the parliament by the new government.

Black Money – The Slanging Match between Congress and BJP

BJP, black money, Congress

The present ruling party BJP and the former ruling party Congress are in a slanging match on the issue of Black Money. BJP in its election propaganda highlighted the need for exposing the names of account holders of black money in foreign banks and criticised Congress for keeping the list secret. BJP after getting power submitted to the Supreme Court that the names of these people can not be released because of the agreement with the foreign countries. When the Congress ridiculed BJP’s stand, BJP has stated that it will announce some names and Congress will be embarrassed. Congress is demanding releasing of all the names.

This battering will go on. But the people want these violators of law and black money holders to be announced and brought to book. Will the BJP Government prepared for that ? Or will they find some more excuses ?

“Need to Change the Ruling Alliance at the Centre” – Manik Sarkar

BJP, change at centre, Congress, Manik Sarkar

Tezpur(Assam), Jan 8
Stating the need to change the ruling alliance at the Centre, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today said the left along with democratic parties will play a major role in government formation after the coming Lok Sabha elections.

“People of India want a political change in the country.

There is need for strengthening the secular democratic forces,” Sarkar said while addressing a public rally here.

Citing the example of formation of the V P Singh government, he said in the last 15 years no political party has secured absolute majority, but alliance ruled the country.

“In the forthcoming parliamentary elections, regional parties will play a major role,” the CPI(M) Politburo member said.

During his speech, Sarkar termed Gujarat as the model state for communal violence, but not a model state for development as blood stains of innocent riot victims were still fresh.

Attacking both the Congress and the BJP for their “so-called secularism”, he said BJP tries to polarise Hindu votes, while Congress plays the dual role.

“If BJP comes to power, the economic and political situation will not change, only the face will,” he added.

The Chief Minister cited Tripura’s example of development in education, health, agriculture and power sectors. (PTI)

Congress, BJP thrives on corporate donations

BJP, Political donations - scam - Congress

The donations to Congress and BJP, the ruling and main opposition parties, more than doubled in the five years between the two general elections in 2004 and 2009 as per information received through an RTI. The RTI information is based on the Income Tax paid by the parties.

The Congress Party’s income, as per income tax returns increased from Rs.222.07 crores in 2004-05 to Rs. 467.57 crore in 2009-10, a five-year period. During the same period, income of BJP increased from Rs. 104.12 crore to Rs. 258 crore.

Major portion of these are donations from the corporates and major trusts formed by the corporates.  They need not pay any tax for these donations from the trusts.

The amount shown by the political parties are only a small portion, since many donations are unaccounted and paid in cash. Further, donations for  less than Rs. 20,000 need not indicate the donors.

The political parties like Congress and BJP getting crores of rupees from the corporates and big business, naturally will make all efforts to safeguard the interests of the former and not the ordinary people. The big scams have already shown how the government favour the corporates.
