Cabinet Approved Merger of Affiliated Banks with SBI

Affiliated Banks, Merger, opposition, SBI

Despite strong opposition from the bank employees and their unions, the Cabinet has reiterated its decision today, 15th February 2017, to merge the following 5 affiliated banks with State Bank of India:

1. State Bank of Travancore
2. State bank of Mysore
3. State bank of Hyderabad
4. State Bank of Patiala
5. State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur.

The decision of the Cabinet is to be strongly opposed since it is against the interest of the customers, the banks and the employees. This is part of the neo-liberal policy of India and intended to help the private banks. This will result in closure of many branches of the affiliated banks and retrenchment of many employees through VRS or CRS.

Our full support to the struggle of the bank employees against this anti-worker anti-PSU decision.

BSNL, closure, NITI Ayog, opposition

The PMO has asked Secretary, Telecommunications for the status on the report of the NITI Ayog recommendation to close / transfer to states of BSNL, the telecom PSU. If Modi government thinks that BSNL is for sale, it is completely mistaken. The 2.1 lakh BSNL employees, one lakh contract workers, more than one lakh BSNL retirees and crores of common people of this country will join together to put an end to this brutal attack. The people know that any closure of BSNL will result in at least 10 times increase in the call / data charges by the private companies as in other countries where the telecom sector is handed over to the private companies.

Maximum campaign amongst the people is required to defend BSNL. It is to be remembered that the present attack is being made when BSNL has improved its services and is making operational profit with the full co-ordination of BSNL Management and the workers.

SAY ‘NO’ TO CLOSURE OF BSNL!

Oppose the formation of Tower Company tooth and nail.

BSNL, opposition, Tower company

It is reported that the government of India has approved formation of a tower company, bifurcating BSNL. This decision is to be condemned and opposed with all our might. The above decision of the government is to disintegrate BSNL by making it a loss making company and then sell strategically or otherwise.

The Forum of BSNL Unions and Associations has taken the correct decision to oppose the formation of tower company. The programme on 26th October 2016 should be made a massive action with participation of maximum workers.

BSNL Employees Union and the Forum of BSNL Unions and Associations have the proud record of defeating government decisions on disinvestment of BSNL, VRS/CRS of one lakh workers as also unbundling of the valuable cables for the benefit of the private players. Till now, the government could not implement any of these decisions for which the workers and unions have to be congratulated for their rock like unity and firm determination which defeated the govt. decisions.

It is hoped that all the unions/associations will join together to defeat the attack on BSNL and its workers. We can not allow BSNL to be disintegrated. Fight to the last!

CITU Condemns Retrograde Move to Sell Out
Public Sector Companies With Huge Asset

New Delhi, June 15: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions condemns the retrograde move by the Govt of India to fast track selling out the Central Public Sector Enterprises with its huge asset base to private hands. With this dubious intent, the NITI Ayog has been made to submit a list of CPSEs to Prime Minister’s office recommending fast track sale of those companies on various pretext.

It is a matter of alarm that in order to facilitate sale-out of the CPSEs, the NITI Ayog has been made to recommend further capital investment from national exchequer in some of those CPSEs like Air India, FACT , Chennai Petroleum, Madras Fertilisers etc, not just to revamp their operational efficiency, but to make them saleable to private hands.

The history of such strategic sale of around nine CPSEs, like IPCL, BALCO etc during the previous NDA regime reveals that each of those CPSEs with their huge asset-base were sold at prices less than one fourth of their real asset value at then market prices, that too, virtually to a single bidder, as observed by CAG at that material time. The Narendra Modi Govt at present has become more desperate in selling out huge national assets in the chosen CPSEs to its private corporate constituency, both domestic and foreign, at a throw away price, much to the detriment of national interest. Two years’ BJP regime could not create nor facilitate any new establishments for productive employment generation in any significant scale except making loud noises through media-hype and creating statistical illusions on GDP growth; on the other hand the Govt is desperately moving ahead for mega-sale of huge national assets through sale of CPSEs.

The NITI Ayog while making such disastrous recommendations along with the list of CPSEs for sale, went to the extent of arguing that “non-priority sector CPSE, once revived, could always be considered for strategic disinvestment”. Could devility go further ? Can Airlines, petroleum companies, fertilizer producing units be construed as “non-priority sector” in our country by any stretch of imagination ? But a Govt in a hurry to establish its corporate loyalty and also so called “reforms-credential” can certainly go to such devilish extent, totally unconcerned of national interest.

Such retrograde move of frittering away national assets in country’s CPSEs must be combated and resisted by the working class movement of the country. The united platform of country’s trade union movement comprising almost all the trade unions and federations of the country has already decided to go in for countrywide general strike on 2nd September 2016 demanding, inter alia, the withdrawal of such disastrous move of sale-out of national assets and CPSEs, in order to defend the working people as well as to defend the national economy.

The CITU while calling upon the working people and trade unions in the country irrespective of affiliations to prepare for staging the countrywide General Strike on 2nd September 2016 in a massive way, also calls for organizing united protest in workplaces and industrial centres against such retrograde move of privatization by the BJP Govt.

Again move for VRS in BSNL – Workers will defeat it again

BSNL, opposition, VRS

It is reported that BSNL Management is thinking again about imposing VRS on the workers. Thrice it was decided earlier, and the united struggle of the workers have defeated the  sinister moves.

Already more than one lakh sixty thousand workers have retired since BSNL was formed with only about 30,000 – 40,000 new recruitment. More than one lakh twenty thousand workers are less now. The employees above the age of 50 are those who developed DOT and BSNL and deserves respect and honour and not VRS.

We would advise the management to resist from the move for VRS. Instead procure equipment, provide motivation to the workers, increase the services and and improve customer service. This is the only way to save BSNL and not VRS/CRS.

It is reported that in the face of strong protests and the entire opposition coming together on the issue as also the massive protest among the farmers, the BJP government may stall the Amendment to the Land Bill for the present. While the industry and business corporates are exerting their full pressure for the passing of the bill, the government does not have the right numbers in the Rajya Sabha. The government hs also been put on the defensive by the aggressive propaganda by the opposition.

The ensuing session of the Parliament will reveal the strategy of the government.

Land Bill, opposition

New Delhi, Mar 17 : In the first display of opposition unity against the Modi government, leaders of 14 political parties led by Sonia Gandhi today marched from Parliament to Rashtrapati Bhavan against amendments to the  land acquisition act and pledged to continue their “do or die” battle.

A delegation of 26 leaders including former Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and H D Deve Gowda  met President Pranab Mukherjee and urged him to protect the farmers’ interests by impressing upon the Modi government “not to go ahead with the amendments in the Rajya Sabha” saying they were aimed at promoting “divisions and social disharmony”.

This is the first time Opposition parties have come together in such large numbers against the BJP-led government since the Lok Sabha election defeat last year.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress Leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Ramgopal Yadav (SP), Sitaram Yechury (CPI-M), D Raja (CPI), Derek O’ Brien (Trinamool), Kanimozhi (DMK), Dushyant Chautala (INLD), Praful Patel (NCP), Dharamvir Gandhi (AAP), E Ahmed (IUML), Joy Abraham (Kerala Congress-M) and Jay Prakash Yadav (RJD) were among the leaders, who met the President. opposition, Ports privatisation

The proposal of the government to privatise profit making ports in the country has been strongly opposed by the All India Ports and Dock Workers Federation.

The government is proposing to privatise the profit making ports keeping the loss making only with the government. This is to favour the private companies who can maximise their profits as in the case of the privatised airports.

We strongly protest the privatisation proposal and demand the government to stop the process.
