Budget, Disinvestment, PSU

New Delhi, Feb 28 The government today proposed raising Rs 69,500 crore from disinvestment and strategic sale in state-owned companies.

Of  the total budgeted proceeds, Rs 41,000 crore is estimated to come from minority stake sale in PSUs, and the remaining Rs 28,500 crore is projected to come from strategic sale in both profit and loss-making companies.

As regards disinvestment in the current year, the government is expected to mop up only Rs 31,350 crore as against the budget target of Rs 63,425 crore.

The revised estimates have pegged the disinvestment receipts from minority stake sale in PSUs at Rs 26,353 crore, as against the target of Rs 43,425 crore.

In addition, Rs 5,000 crore will be raised from PSU Exchange Traded Fund (ETF).

“We have an elaborate disinvestment roadmap in front of us. As far as strategic sales are concerned, certainly we are not averse to the idea. Wherever we find the possibility existing, we will certainly consider it,” Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told reporters here.

The government has raised about Rs 24,500 crore through disinvestment in SAIL and Coal India in the current fiscal. It expects to raise Rs 6,850 crore in the remaining one month of the fiscal ending March.

Five per cent stake sale in REC and PFC are on cards in current fiscal.

The disinvestment department has lined up a host of companies including 5 per cent in ONGC, Dredging Corp, and Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL).

Besides, 10 per cent each in Indian Oil Corporation, National Aluminium Company (NALCO) and NMDC are also being planned.

It is also planning to list RINL and Hindustan Aeronautics through a 10 per cent stake dilution. (PTI)

sTRIKE ON 21-22 April

The postponement of the Strike from 17th March to Two Days Strike on 21-22 April 2015 has given sufficient time for the BSNL Unions and their workers to continue the Save BSNL Campaign and propaganda amongst the people. The last date for the Signature Campaign on the Memorandum to the Prime Minister has been extended to 31st March.

This is an opportunity to fulfill the target of one crore signatures in the Memorandum. Those circles, who have not yet completed their target of signatures can immediately start and and ensure completion and  forward it to National Convener, Forum at New Delhi so as to reach before 31st March 2015.

Hold Conventions at SSA level and joint General Body meetings at Branch level continued by meeting each and every worker and convincing the need for participation in the Two Days Strike. Make the strike 100% success. The strike is to ensure the future of BSNL and its workers as also to save the nation.

Homage, P.M.Baby

It is with great shock that I heard the sad news of the passing away of Com. P.M.Baby, the former Circle Secretary of the Civil Wing Union and Circle Vice-president of BSNLEU, Kerala Circle. He was a leader of strong conviction and dedicated and sincere. He was suffering from diabetics and was under treatment.

I met him last when I visited Thiruvananthapuram to attend the AIBDPA Conference at  in October 2014. Though not well, he had come to the Open session. We talked about the organisational activities and also about his failing health.I never thought that this will be our last meeting.

I am deeply grieved at the untimely death of Com. Baby. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends.

The attack on social activists and whistle blowers are on the increase. The latest is the attack on Avijit Roy, noted writer and blogger and his wife at Dhaka in Bangladesh, when they were returning from a book fair. His wife Rafida Ahmed Banna was seriously injured and is in hospital. It is suspected that Islamic radicals are behind the attack, though no one has owned it.

It is time that there should be strong protest against such heinous attacks.

The target of the government to connect 2,50,000 villages by optic fibre by December 2016 will not be feasible, since only 50,000 village panchayat only has been connected so far. The government fixes the projects but is unable to complete it. This is the situation. The estimated cost of the project is a huge Rs. 30,000 crore. This information is supplied by the Economic Survey released yesterday.

Two Days Strike on 21-22 April 2015 by BSNL Employees on Revival of BSNL

SAVE INDIA – SAVE NATION

BSNL Employees numbering around 2,50,000 will go on a 48 hours strike on 21-22 April 2015 demanding the government to take urgent steps for the Revival of BSNL, which is in loss for the last 4 years due to the anti-PSU neo-liberal policies of the government. BSNL is a PSU which was posting very good profit till 2006-2007 and had gone on loss, mainly due to the non-purchasing of equipment and cancellation tenders for the same.

The BSNL Workers have already organised massive dharnas on 6-8 January 2015 all over the country and a Historical March to Parliament on 25th February. The next step is the 48 hours, two day strike on 21-22 April 2015. In between Circle level Conventions and signatures of the Memorandum  to the Prime Minister will be collected and remitted.

The strike proposed from 17th March was postponed to bring all the unions together and to ensure a complete strike.

Let us March ahead for a 100% strike to save BSNL.
