Allotment of 4 G Spectrum to BSNL – Why refer to TRAI – Allot Spectrum to BSNL immediately

It is reported that the question of allotment of 4G Spectrum has been referred to TRAI by the DOT and the same is pending with the TRAI for some time.

The allotment of 4G Spectrum to private telcos was never referred to TRAI. Then why refer it to the TRAI when it comes to  BSNL. This is completely discriminatory and against the interests of the subscribers and BSNL. Further the anti-BSNL stand of the TRAI is well known through its past decisions.

The government should put an end to this injustice to the BSNL. The 4 G Spectrum should be allotted BSNL with out delay.

Reliance Jio violate TRAI directions on special offers

DOT, Reliance Jio, TRAI

Despite clear direction from the TRAI to stop the summer special offers extended for more than 90 days to customers, Reliance Jio has given advertisements continuing the offer for more than 15 days.

Probably, Reliance Jio will be thinking that Modi government will not take any action against it, since  it was Prime Minister Modi’s photo that they put in their full page advertisements earlier.

TRAI and DOT should take serious action against the violation of rules by Reliance Jio, which has resulted in great loss to the government, in terms of licence fee to the extent of 30% as reported bt DOT to the Minister.

Net Neutrality, TRAI

Putting an end to the discriminating tariff plans of certain net-providers like Facebook and Airtel, the TRAI has taken a firm stand on Net-Neutrality. Violation of Net-Neutrality will invite penalty up to a maximum of Rs.50 lakh.

The TRAI stated as follows: ” Keeping in view of India’s large number of Net users and content producers, the authority has taken a view that  prohibition of discriminatory tariff for data services is necessary to ensure service providers continue to fulfill obligations in keeping Internet open and non-discriminatory.”

Facebook’s Free Basics and Airtel Zero are barred accordingly. It is reported that Facebook has spent thousands of crores of rupees towards publicity of its Free Basics.

Reason has won at least for the present. TRAI has stated that it may review the decision after two years. The service providers have been given 6 months time to comply with the present decision.

It is reported in the press that the TRAI is set to issue notification to the telecom companies to pay Re.1/ compensation for each call drop with a maximum of Rs. 3/- for a day. Though the telecom companies have protested, the large number of complaints on the call drops and also the assurance of the Minister that call drops will be reduced, it is almost certain that the TRAI will issue the orders.

Call drops, infrastructure, TRAI

The TRAI has criticised the telecom companies for the continued call drops since it is mainly due to the lack of infrastructure like towers. The telecom companies are providing connections much more than their capacity to serve. While there has been increase of 12% in GSM calls  and 106% in data usage, the number of base stations have gone up  only by 8%. The telecom operators have been asked to provide the details of the infrastructure, number of towers etc. by the TRAI.

Net Neutrality, TRAI

It is one of the biggest social campaign India has seen in recent times.  After the TRAI called  for an open discussion on the question of Net-Neutrality, more than 10 lakh e-mails have been received by TRAI that net-neutrality should not be compromised and the proposals to allow internet providers to charge for special schemes etc. can not be allowed.

This is a good response. The proposals against net-neutrality being thought about cannot be allowed.
