The ASG, however, made it clear that the regulations wouldcome into force from January 1 as was decided.

BSNL, Call drops, MTNL

Congress has attacked the Modi government and specifically Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad responsible for call drops and demanded his immediate resignation.

Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, on his part, stated that the UPA government is fully responsible for the poor condition of BSNL and MTNL.

The fact is that both NDA as well as UPA are responsible for the call drops and the present condition of both BSNL and MTNL.

As in the case of competing in supporting and providing all help to the corporates and the MNCs by both Congress and BJP, both of them should support BSNL and MTNL, instead of trying to finish them off.

Call drops, infrastructure, TRAI

The TRAI has criticised the telecom companies for the continued call drops since it is mainly due to the lack of infrastructure like towers. The telecom companies are providing connections much more than their capacity to serve. While there has been increase of 12% in GSM calls  and 106% in data usage, the number of base stations have gone up  only by 8%. The telecom operators have been asked to provide the details of the infrastructure, number of towers etc. by the TRAI.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT and Telecommunications will look in to the issue of call drops in mobile phones, which is is ever increasing and has become a nuisance. One reason is lack of mobile towers, while the other is a calculated plan on the part of the telcos to increase their revenue, since call drops mean more calls and charge.

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on IT and Telecom, Anurag Thackur stated that the committee will seriously consider the matter and give necessary recommendations.

Call drops, Telecom

Every body will agree with  Prime Minister Modi that the problem of call drops requires urgent attention. The only question is why the PM has not stated the same much earlier, since the problem was existing for a very long time. Any way, better late than never.

Every body, including customers, providers and government agrees that call drops is a very big issue. Calls are cut in between resulting a lot of irritation, unhappiness in relations, increased charges and so on. The reasons may be different; Lack of spectrum, lack of towers, providing more connections than capable by the system and so on.

There is really an urgent need to attend to the same on a fat track. A co-ordinated effort on the part of telecom companies and government is very much needed.
