Farmers - M.P, Maharashtra

New Delhi, June 6: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), now in session in New Delhi, has issued the following statement:

Condemn Killing of Farmers in MP

The Polit Bureau of the CP(M) strongly condemns the brutal killing of three kisans in police firing in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh. The police action has also rendered a large number of kisans grievously injured.

The kisans in Madhya Pradesh have been agitating peacefully for many days demanding that the state government implement the promises that have been made to provide greater remuneration to the kisans as well as debt relief.

This unprovoked police firing clearly exposes the anti-kisan character of the BJP in general and the state government in particular.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands that adequate compensation be given to the families of those who died in the police firing and the state government should provide all medical assistance to those who have been injured.

The culprits responsible for ordering this unprovoked police firing must be suspended immediately, pending a proper enquiry. The state government must immediately concede the genuine demands of the kisan agitation.

Maharashtra Farmers Strike

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) extends its complete support to the Maharashtra farmers who have embarked on an unprecedented action of a strike since June 1. The farmers have refused to bring their produce like vegetables, fruits and milk to the cities in protest against the state government’s refusal to accede to genuine demands like loan waiver in the background of consecutive droughts; implementation of the BJP’s poll promise of increasing the minimum support price to one and a half times the cost of inputs; promised pension for kisans and agricultural workers and to implement the promises regarding uninterrupted electricity and water during the agricultural season.

For over a year the Maharashtra kisans had been agitating on these issues and the state government had repeatedly sought time to meet their demands. This unique action of a farmers strike was resorted to after the series of betrayal by the state government in accepting the demands. Yesterday, June 5, the state witnessed a state wide bandh jointly called by several kisan organisations.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands that the genuine demands of the farmers in Maharashtra, which were promised earlier by the state government be implemented immediately.

Farmers' Strike, Maharashtra

MUMBAI, June 1 :   Farmers from Maharashtra started an indefinite strike on Thursday, curtailing the supply of vegetables, fruits and milk to cities such as Mumbai in a move that could push up food prices in the coming days.

Indebted farmers are demanding a waiver on loans from the government of the big farming state similar to the $5.6 billion in debt forgiveness announced by Uttar Pradesh in April. (News Report).

The photo above shows the roads blocked by onions which the farmers have put there in connection with the strike. In many places milks in large quantity were spilled on the road. The strike is continuing. Thousands of farmers have committed suicide unable to repay the loans. The government should act immediately and waive the loans to save the farmers.

The government which is subsiding the corporates and rich business people should consider the case of these poor farmers also.

Bombay High Court has observed that women can not be barred from temples where men are allowed. The Division Bench of the High Court With Chief Justice Waghela and Justice MS Sonak stated that any temple or person imposing such restriction can face a six month jail term under Maharashtra Law.

Maharashtra Government should take necessary action in the matter so that women are allowed entrance to Shani temple etc.where women are barred from entering.

BSNLEU, CEC, Maharashtra

Along with CHQ BSNLEU comrades Swapan Chakraborty, Dy.GS, S.Chellappa, AGS, R.S.Chauhan, Org. Secretary and T.A.Biju Office Secretary, me and my wife reached Ahmednagar on February 16th noon to attend the CEC of BSNLEU. We left Ahmed Nagar in the evening of 21st February 2016 after the CEC  was over.

During all this time, from the reception at the Railway Station till saying good bye, the Ahmed Nagar and Maharashtra comrades were there to make everything easy. Whether at the Conference Hall,  or at the time of food, they were always there to help us. It was just like you were with your family. And always the presence of senior comrade and Advisor Reception Committee, Appa Saheb Gagare was there. Others were not behind.

The surprise came after General Secretary Com.P.Abhimanyu had completed his summing up and the President Com. Balbir Singh was to make his concluding speech. The Reception Committee leaders came to the stage and honoured me and my wife Pankajam (who is a BSNL Pensioner) with shawls, bouquet etc.  I felt a bit embarrassed but, I understood that they loved us and this was an expression of the same.

I express our  sincere thanks to and appreciation of the dedicated service of the Reception Committee comrades for making the CEC a complete success. Maharashtra Circle Secretary Com. Nallwade and CHQ AGS, Com. John Verghese ensured that there is nothing massing in making arrangements.

My heartfelt thanks to the Reception Committee  and Maharashtra Circle comrades!

Farmers' suicides, Maharashtra

‘India lives in villages’ is the saying. But it is in these villages that death is lurking. In Maharashtra alone 3,228 farmers have committed suicide due to poverty, crop failure, unable to pay loans etc. While the farmers are dying, the government is keeping silent. Most of these families of suicided farmers have not got any support from the government. While the corporates and big business concerns are given large subsidies, these poor families are ignored. Shame on the top politicians and the government.

Maharashtra, Suicide by farmers

The Hindu dated today has reported that about 2,500 farmers in Maharashtra have committed suicide during January to October 2014, due to failure of crops as also unable to repay the agricultural loans taken by them. If the total number of farmers committed suicide in Maharashtra from 2001 to 2014 is taken, the official number is 17.276 farmers of farmers committed suicide. This brings to a total of about 20,000 farmers who gave their life in Maharashtra alone.

The various governments at the Central and State had not taken the issue seriously. The farmers have been demanding for loan waival, but the government is not reacting favourably.

Maharashtra – 1300 farmer suicides from January to June 2015

Farmers, Maharashtra, suicide

The two  main ruling parties in the country always speak about the sad plight of the farmers; but do nothing for them. The continuous suicides of the farmers in the country is a severe black blot on the face of the ruling parties.

The latest information is that in Maharashtra alone 1300 farmers have committed suicide during the six months from January 2015. In 2014, it was a total of 1,981 for the whole year.

When are the ruling parties  going to seriously think about the plight of the farmers, who cultivate and feed the people of the country and solve their problems. Of course, what is the interest for those crorepatis, who form more than half of the M.P.s and many of the Ministers, on the sad condition of the poor farmers?

Deloittee, Maharashtra, Protest

As soon as the letter of the BSNL C.O. received regarding the implementation of Deloittee Committee recommendations with regard to the SSA concept (reducing the present SSAs by merger), Forum Convener wrote to the CMD that this is on violation of the assurance given to the Forum by the CMD and the implementation should not be done.

On 20th October all the Circle secretaries of Maharashtra Circle under the initiative of Com. Nalwade, CS, BSNLEU,jointly met the CGM and expressed their strong protest. The CGM stated that in view of the strong protest of the employees, he will refer the matter to c.O. and will not implement the recommendations.

Congratulations to the Circle secretaries of Maharashtra.

CPI(M), Maharashtra

The assembly elections in Maharashtra have evoked national interest. The major news in the last two days have been related to the result of the elections and how BJP will form the government etc. The seats won by the BJP, Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP are well published and known. But what about CPI(M)? No news at all.

But interestingly one CPI(M) candidate has also won. He is Com. J.P.Gavit from the Kanwan Assembly(ST) seat. This is in Nashik District. CPI(M) is winning the seat for the 7th time.

Our Congratulations to Com. Gavit and CPI(M) for the victory.

Our Strong Protest against Arbitrary Implementation of Deloittee Committee Recommendations

16 Thursday Oct 2014

Deloittee, Maharashtra

The BSNL Management states one thing and acts in another way. When the Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations expressed its strong protest against the anti-BSNL recommendations of the Consultants M/s Deloittee it was assured that the same will be discussed with the staff unions/associations before its implementation.

But now through letter dated 14-10-2014, the BSNL Management has arbitrarily directed the CGM Maharashtra to implement the recommendations of the Deloittee Committee recommendations on the reconstitution of the SSAs.

This is completely unacceptable. We strongly protest against this arbitrary decision without discussing with the Forum/ unions/ associations. Forum demands the BSNL Management to cancel the order or at least keep the order in abeyance till it is discussed with the unions/associations.
