On the one hand the central government is often hinting about reducing the retirement age from 60 to 58 or so. In BSNL, the management has proposed to government  for reduction of retirement age from 60 to 58. The youth in the country also wants retirement age to be reduced so that there will be much more job opportunities.

Reducing the retirement age is neither practical nor will serve the purpose. The government should create more jobs for the unemployed youth by withdrawing the ban on recruitment, robotisation, expansion of services, more social benefit programmes etc instead of reducing the retirement age.

It is surprising, that the same government and PSUs like BSNL etc.  which craves of reduction in retirement age is engaging retired people as consultants even after their retirement, for which there is no justification. This is nothing but exploitation as well as favouritism; exploitation in the way that these retired people are engaged for very less allowance/wages and favouritism in the fact that only the favoured people are selected as consultants. In the existing circumstances, there is no justification for retired people to be engaged; instead new recruitment should take place.

BSNL staff strength reduced by more than one lakh.

Every month, the number of staff in BSNL is being reduced by thousands. During the last 13 years of its existence, more than one lakh thirty thousand employees have retired with only about 30,000 recruited.

While there were about 3.5 lakh employees at the time of formation of BSNL, the present staff strength is only about 2.45 lakhs.

There is extreme necessity for new recruitment in the lowest cadres of the non-executives, where no recruitment has taken place since BSNL formation, except for regularisation of some TSM/casual labour, which also has been stopped since 2006.

Whatever the management may say, this is one of the reasons for the deterioration of the services. While the management has agreed in the National Council that fresh blood is required, no action has been taken by it so far for new recruitment in the lowest cadres. This should be done to save BSNL and for a better service to the customers.

Com. S.C.Bhattacharjee, All India Treasurer and Circle Secretary Chhattisgarh of BSNLEU is retiring on superannuation on today, 31st January 2014. Joined in the P and T Department in February 1976, he has almost completed a meritorious service of about 38 years including both in DOT and BSNL.
His contributions to the All India Union as well as to the M.P. and Chhattisgarh Circle, as Circle secretary in the latter since its formation, are well known. He organised many struggles and led many struggles for the cause of the workers. He is loved by all for his simple life, friendship and progressive outlook.

Revolutionary Greetings and Best Wishes to Com.Bhattacharjee at the time of his retirement. This is a Reception to you for more activities in the days to come.

Three senior leaders of BSNLEU are retiring today, 31st December 2013, from service on superannuation after, meritorious service of more than three and half decades. They are Com. P.Abhimanyu, General Secretary, R.L.Moudgil, AGS and Com. P.C.Kandpal, CS Uttarakhand.
All these three leaders have been in the forefront of the union activities for a very long period, strengthened the organisation, sacrificed themselves for the cause of the workers and are still in top positions in BSNLEU. They are the leading lights of the movement.

I wish all these three comrades a very Happy Family Life as also very active leadership role in the days to come, not only in BSNLEU but also in the movement of the toiling masses and the common people!

Red Salute Comrades, on this day when you retire from the service on superannuation!
