The Finance Minster Arun Jaitely has stated that he is expecting early govt. decision on the merger of the Associated Banks with the State bank of India. The Associate banks are State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Travancore, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Mysore and State Bank of Hyderabad. Mahila Bank also will be merged.
SBI first merged State Bank of Saurashtra with itself in 2008. Two years later, State Bank of Indore was merged.
SBI has maintained since then that it would merge others as well but none of its moves fructified due to lack of capital (which was pegged at least Rs 2,000 crore each for per bank) and stiff opposition from employee unions.

The Bank Employees have strongly protested the merger move since it will neither improve the services nor improve the finance of the SBI.

Special Aadhaar Enrolment drive for Pensioners, from May 30 to June 10, 2016

Pensioners will also get opportunity to seed data for digital life certificate

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a special enrolment drive for pensioners who are yet to enroll for Aadhaar. The drive is being conducted to enable Pensioners avail the convenience of Jeevan Pramaan, an initiative of Department of Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfare, Government of India.

Every year, pensioners need to provide a life certificate to an authorized pension disbursing agency such as a Bank, Post office etc., for receipt of pension. To get a life certificate the pensioner is required to either personally present oneself before the Pension Disbursing Agency or have the Life Certificate issued by the department/authority where they served earlier and have it delivered to the disbursing agency. This entails considerable hardship to the senior Citizens.

Jeevan Pramaan, a digital life certificate which utilises the Aadhaar identity platform, addresses this very problem by digitizing the whole process of securing a life certificate. A pensioner just needs to biometrically authenticate at the nearest centre. After successful authentication, the digital life certificate is stored in a Life Certificate Repository, which can be accessed by the Pension Disbursing Authority.

To facilitate pensioners to avail the facility of Jeevan Pramaan, which is based on Aadhaar Identity platform, UIDAI and Department of Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfare have taken initiative to carry out special enrolment drive for Pensioners through banks which are Registrars for enrolment for Aadhaar as well as Pension Disbursing Authorities.

The enrolment drive and the Aadhaar seeding camp is being run from May 30 to June 10, 2016.

“We hold special enrolment drives to help people who are yet to enrol for Aadhaar. This particular exercise has been initiated to make sure pensioners get an Aadhaar number if they still don’t have one and seed the Aadhaar details of pensioners so that they can get a Jeevan Pramaan,” said Director General & Mission Director of UIDAI, Dr. Ajay Bhushan Pandey.

So far over 15.41 Lakh pensioners have already registered for the Aadhaar-enabled Jeevan Pramaan service.

India Post Payment Bank approved by Government

The long pending approval for the India Post Payment Bank (IPPB) by the government has been issued on 1st June 2016, as announced by the Communications Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad. It will be the largest bank in the world in terms of reach with 1.54 lakh Post Offices and 650 Payment Bank Branches, he stated.

‘A Payment Bank can hold a maximum balance of Rs. one lakh per customer, can issue ATM/Debit Cards, but not Credit Cards. It can offer payment and remittance services, deal in simple financial products like mutual fund units and insurance products but can not take lending services.’

It is to be noted here that Department of Posts were denied ‘Payment Bank’ service, while private companies were allowed to do so. This was great injustice. At least at this stage, government has been compelled to approve the application of the Department of Posts  for starting Payment Bank service.

AAI revenue increased, get profit!

Another loss making PSU has made profit. Airport Authority of India (AAI), which was struggling hard to revive has posted an envious revenue of Rs.10,000 crore and a profit of Rs. 2,537 crores for 2015-16. This is glad news.

Despite the fact that the government has handed over four major profit-making Airports ie. Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad  to private players which created major loss of revenue to AAI, it has come back with good revenue and profit in this financial year.

Hearty Congratulations to the management and workers of AAI!

Protest this petrol, diesel hike.

Tags

, ,

There is no justification for the present hike in the price of petrol and diesel, which is increased by Rs. 2.5 for petrol and Rs. 2.26 for diesel. This is the 19th hike for petrol and 16th hike for diesel within the last two years after the Modi Government took over.

The government had declared that after deregulation, the prices will come down, when the international prices come down. The international price at present for petrol is only Rs. 25.31 whereas the government has raised it to Rs.65.63 by increasing the customs/excise/taxes. This is nothing but looting the people.

Strong protest should come from the political parties, workers and the people to make the government to retract from the anti-people decision.
