A report from TUI(P and T), WFTU, on the New Attempt to Silence the Action of the Class Trade Unions in Greece is reproduced below:

The Executive Secretariat of PAME denounces the Mayor and the Municipal Authorities of
Kalamata (city in the Southern Greece) for demanding PAME to pay a fine of almost 1000€!
The infringement they accuse PAME of, is “creating pollution by using banners” to call to
demonstrations against the new, brutal Memorandum of SYRIZA and the anti workers’
measures that destroy our lives!
The absolute silence they demand; the attempts to create obstacles in people’s mobilization
only prove that they are with the side of the capitalists.
PAME, its forces, are not intimidated, are not subjugated! Steadfast, militantly they stand
against the capital, the EU and their servants in every level. Central, regional or municipal.
We return your fine back at you! Send it to the capitalists and the Government!
We call the working class of Kalamata, the self employed, the small farmers and especially the
youth, in spite of our differences, to rally with PAME, the social alliance and strengthen it. To
strengthen our common action against those who want to destroy us, the European Union, the
monopolies, their political parties, and their servants, like the Municipal Authorities of Kalamata.
They support the old and New Memoranda, the anti workers policies, the extreme taxation to
the people. They support our pauperization with wage cuts, pension cuts, rise of retirement age
to 67 years, to 72.
We call you to demand the recover of our losses, our contemporary needs, to strengthen
solidarity. No one to be alone in the crisis
THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARIAT PAME

The pensioners on the path of struggle in Greece

Thousands of pensioners, in rallies and mobilizations in over 20 cities, who had responded to the call of the pensioners’ organizations, demonstrated yesterday and demanded the payment of the Easter bonus to everyone, the restoration of pensions and rights to pre-crisis levels and the abolition of the anti-people laws. They also demanded exclusively public and free healthcare and medical cover.

At the meeting the delegation of the pensioners had at the Ministry of Labour, the deputy minister of Social Security, Dimitris Stratoulis, merely repeated the position of the government regarding the return of the Christmas bonus to the poorest pensioners, without answering the demand for the immediate return of the Easter bonus. He also repeated that the government will not further reduce the pensions. So, in essence, the SYRIZA-ANEL government refused to make any commitment in relation to the just demands of the pensioners.

Dimos Koumpouris, president of the Pensioners’ Federation and member of the CC of the KKE, speaking to the demonstrators, stressed that the issue is not merely for the pensions not to be further reduced, as the pensioners today can no longer deal with their problems. He called on the pensioners to be vigilant, as the government’s negotiations with the lenders are being carried out with the same rationale as the previous government had. He underlined that the pensioners will continue to fight to recover what has been taken from them and prioritize the issues of pensions and healthcare

Meeting of Telecommunications’ Trade Unions from Europe

PRESS RELEASE
Meeting of Telecommunications’ Trade Unions from Europe On Saturday, March 14, took place at the Headquarters of PAME in Athens a meeting of trade union organisations from Telecommunications to discuss the coordination of the workers in the sector against the multinationals.
In the meeting which was hosted by PAME participated the trade union organisations USB from Italy,PEO from Cyprus and CoBas from Spain. The organisations agreed that it is necessary for the fighting trade unions of Europe to coordinate their action in a sector that is dominated by the monopolies, with hundreds of thousands of workers, who are, in majority, working as modern slaves, especially in the huge call centers. At the same time the delegations highlighted issues such as privatizations, the destructive role of the employers’ trade unionism and the persecutions against militant workers.
The organisations agreed in a series of initiatives, with main goal the need to organise a big meeting of the fighting trade unions in telecommunications, IT and call centers, which can be a step for common action. The delegations also talked about the need to open the discussion within the workers and the trade unions for Telecommunications that will not belong to business groups, but they will be property of the people and will guarantee cheap and quality access to the commodity of communication to all people, while at the same time will provide full-time, steady jobs, with full rights to the workers

Minimum Pension

New Delhi, Sept 25 In order to remove uncertainty over the payment of minimum Rs 1,000 monthly pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme 1995 (EPS-95) beyond March 31, the government will amend the scheme to make it a permanent feature.
“When we have planned that (Rs 1,000 minimum monthly) pension will be given, then it would not be for one year. That would be done,” Labour Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said when asked if there is a move to amend EPS-95 to make the entitlement perpetual.
The government order currently provides that the pension under the EPS-95 scheme, run by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), will be implemented from September 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015.
In the present scenario, for paying minimum pension of Rs 1,000 under EPS-95, either the government would re-notify the decision again and again for a specified period or bring an order to make it a permanent feature of the EPS-95.
Tomar said: “We still have time to do that. The minimum pension will be an entitlement for a time-frame. You can ask about it if we don’t do it within the set time-frame (till March 31).”
The minister said that under the scheme around 32 lakh pensioner under the scheme who get less than Rs 1000 every month as pension would be immediately benefited. There are 49 lakh pensioners under the scheme at present.
According to him there are about 13 lakh pensioners under the scheme who get even less than Rs 500 every month as pension.
Marking the launch of a guaranteed minimum pension of Rs 1,000 per month, the central government has decided to organise functions in every office of the EPFO across the country on September. EPFO has over 120 offices in India.
The minister said: “It has also been decided that in 37 locations, the Union Ministers will preside over the functions and felicitate the pensioners whose pension is getting increased.”
Among the union ministers who would be present at 37 different locations include Home Minister Rajnath Singh (Lucknow), Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad (Kolkata), Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda (Manglore), Water Resource Minister Uma Bharti (Allahabad).
Labour Minister will attend the similar function at Gwalior. The list provides names of two union ministers, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan to preside over the function at Delhi in view of medical treatment of the former.
During this simultaneous launch of the entitlement, the EPFO’s field offices would have a separate time slot for redressing grievances of pensioners and pension claim applicants during the event.(PTI)

Greece: Palestine solidarity activity held by PAME and WFTU
01 Aug 2014
GREECE, PALESTINE, SOLIDARITY

On July 31st, the All Workers Militant Front (PAME) of Greece and the WFTU held in Athens, Greece, at the national football stadium of Aegaleo, a massive event of solidarity with the People of Palestine. The act of solidarity was attended buy thousands of workers and included a solidarity soccer match and cultural acts.

Valentin Pacho Quispe, Deputy General Secretary of the WFTU, the consul of the Palestinian Authority in Greece Mohhamed Abu Apha, Yota Tavoulari, president of the Federation of Pharmaceutical workers of Greece and Mohamed Iqnaibi, representative of the General Union of Palestinian Workers (GUPW) were present and addressed the meeting. Also, the Federation of Palestinian Women sent a solidarity message that was read during the activity.

The WFTU was represented by Valentin Pacho Quispe, who delivered the following address:

“I’m here with you on behalf of the World Federation of Trade Unions to express the feeling of the 90 million workers from the 5 continents of solidarity with the people of Palestine and energetic condemnation of the genocide against the Palestinian brothers perpetrated by the imperialist government of Israel.

The working class and the peoples of the world, with great indignation hold large demonstrations condemning the criminal government of Israel. The unions affiliated to the WFTU on every continent hold actions of solidarity with the Palestinian people and demand punishment for those responsible -for government of Israel- for crimes against humanity.

Also, many governments – by the demand of the workers in Latin America, as my country Peru, have withdrawn their ambassadors from Israel in an act of solidarity with the Palestinian people and protest against the criminal actions of the Zionist government of Israel.

The people of Palestine are not alone, they have the solidarity of the peoples of the world. WFTU condemns the imperialist governments of the United States and the countries of the European Union, these hypocrites who shamelessly support the Zionist and racist government of Israel.

The struggle and resistance of the Palestinian people will be victorious. Because when you fight for a just cause, it ends in victory. So the WFTU will always stand by the Palestinian people, until they gain their own independent and sovereign Palestinian state with its capital in Jerusalem.

Honor and glory to the resistance of the Palestinian people!
Long live international solidarity!”

National Union of Bahraini Pensioners Formed – TUI Report

A “voice for Bahraini  Pensioners”

National Union for Bahraini Pensioners (NUBP) was formally launched on April 1st, 2014, with a vision of being the ‘voice’ for those who had toiled for the development and betterment of the nation on various fronts.

The Union was officially launched under Bahrain Free labour Unions Federation ( BFLUF)  and Alba Labour Union patronage, at the Aluminium Bahrain (Alba Club), in the presence of  hundreds of retirees. Unionist delegates from Sudan, Egypt, Libya, Kuwait, Iraq Jordan, Palestine, Yemen and Bahrain attended the ceremony along with General Secretary of International Confederation of Arab trade Union (ICATU), comrade Rajab Mohamed Matouq.

Speaking on this occasion comrade Abdulrahman Shafea chairman of NUBP: “The retired older generation, has nowhere to turn to, in order to get their work-related needs and settlements addressed, as they are no longer part of the various official trade unions, which are meant only for the ‘working’ lot. Here comes in the need for a Pensioners’ Union and hence this venture”

“All national retirees can be a member of the union and like every other union, they are expected to pay a minimal amount of membership fee. The main aim of the union will be to be available as a platform for the pensioners and their problems,” said comrade Shafea. “The Executive Board will plan towards working closely with the Parliament and will seriously look into bringing in changes in existing legislations that are not helpful to the retirees,” he added.

The union will address the needs of both private and public sector pensioners,” he noted, adding that the balancing of the General Insurance percentage of the two sectors will be dealt on priority. “The retirement policies and benefits in private segment vary and depend on the company and its policies.

This also needs unification under the law, apart from a minimum wage scheme, which is highly decisive in terms of the pension amount, the sole income of the pensioners, who often are supporting family members,” he explained.

From his part, comrade Rajab Matouq said “BFLUF had initiated the first-of-its-kind national move, to have a union for the retirees and to link it with the Arab Federation for Pensioners, which is indeed a noble thought and gesture.” Comrade Matouq was astonished there was not a single representative of Bahrain’s government at the event!!

“The humble attempt of BFLUF is to bridge the gap between generations and we feel that there is a need to make the older generation feel that they have people to represent their voice, which has gone feeble over the years,” said Comrade Yaqoub Yousif, chairman of BFLUF.
