Gandhi Jayanti

Today, 2nd October 2015,  is the 136th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. The nation observes the day as Gandhi Jayanti.

During these almost one and half century, the world has changed more than it has changed in thousands of years. The colonial powers have been weakened and number of countries got freedom, like India. The technology in all spheres have advanced and is advancing in every second to say.

But still, India is grappling with severe poverty. The rich has become richer and the poor, the poorer. About 40% are still illiterate. Social justice is not available to crores of people. Brutal exploitation continues.

The ideals and wishes of Gandhiji are forgotten by the rulers of this country. Mere celebration of Gandhi Jayanti is not sufficient. Action is required for the uplift of the Daridranarayanas.

We pay respectful homage to the Father of the Nation on this day!

ambedkar

2015 is the 125th Birth Anniversary year of  Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R.Ambedkar , the icon of the underprivileged and the architect of the Constitution of India. He was born on 14th April 1891.

A Postal Stamp will be released today, 30th September 2015,  in his honour.

Postal Stamp is of course necessary and appropriate. But more urgent is the strict and effective action to ensure that the dalits and underprivileged are ensured thier rightful place in the society.

Whether the Modi Government is prepared for the same?

Why Chandigarh Airport is not named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh?

Chandigarh Airport, Shaheed Bhagat Singh

The decision to name the airport after Bhagat Singh was taken by the Punjab Government in 2007 during his birth centenary celebrations. Later, the Punjab Assembly also unanimously passed a resolution.

The Punjab government had been demanding that the airport be named as ‘Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport.’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 11, 2015 inaugurated the new civil air terminal building at Chandigarh Airport, which will handle both domestic as well as international flights. But it was not named, as per reports.

What is the delay in naming the Chandigarh Airport after the great martyr. The government should immediately act and name it.

Govt. proposes a 3 Member Committee to fix salaries of M.P.s

It is reported that the government is thinking of appointing a 3 Member Emoluments Committee to fix the salaries and allowances of the Members of Parliament. There has been some criticism earlier that the law makers are fixing their salaries and allowances themselves.

An MP in India gets a salary of Rs 50,000 per month. In addition, Rs 2,000 per day is paid as daily allowance when the MP signs the register while attending Parliament sessions or House committee meetings. The MP is entitled to Rs 45,000 constituency allowance every month — Rs 15,000 for stationery and Rs 30,000 to employ secretarial assistance staff.

MPs are also entitled for a government accommodation, air travel and train travel facilities, besides three landline and two mobile phones. They also get a loan of Rs 4 lakh to buy a vehicle.

The proposed committee will examine all these and also with comparison with other countries.

New Delhi, Sep 26: CPI (M) today hit out at Narendra Modi over his recent dig at “secularists”, saying it is “completely unbecoming” of the Prime Minister and was unprecedented for a person holding the top post to “settle” domestic political issues when abroad.

CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury also said it was “unfortunate” that the Prime Minister has undertaken “so many” foreign visits and quipped that since Modi has spent “more time” abroad, he is finding little time to settle domestic political issues when in India.

“It’s completely unbecoming. As a Prime Minister of our country, it has never happened that the domestic political issues have been settled by the Prime Minister abroad.

“Now it’s a different matter that Modi is spending more time abroad than in India. Therefore, he may not have time in India to settle the Indian political issues, so he is doing it abroad,” Yechury told reporters.

The Rajya Sabha member said it is “unfortunate” situation that the Prime Minister has undertaken “so many” foreign visits during the 16-month tenure.(PTI)

Contract Workers in Maruti-Suzuki on struggle.

The contract workers, numbering about 2,500 – 3,000 engaged in the Maruti-Suzuki factories are on struggle path for better wages. Consequent to the wage agreement reached between the Management and the regular workers’ unions for an increase of about Rs. 16,800 in three years, the contract workers also have demanded increase in their wages, which is fully justified. While a regular worker gets about Rs. 38,000, the contract worker, who is performing almost the same duty, is paid only Rs. 15,000.

The contract workers staged massive demonstration near the factories’ premises on 26th September demanding wage rise. The demand of the workers is fully justified and should be granted by the management. We support and extend our solidarity.

Anil Shastri, senior Congress leader and son of Lal Bahadur Shastri, former Prime Minister of India, has demanded the central government that the files regarding his death in Tashkent and connected matters be released. The demand has come at a time when such demand has been raised by many politicians and public figures for releasing the secret files on freedom fighter and INA Commander Subhas Chandra Bose.

It is reported in the press that his wife had then and there mentioned when she first saw the body of Lal Bahadur Shastri in the plane after it reached Palam Airport, that it was not a natural death and that the body was blue.

Certainly, the family and the people have got right to know what are in the files.
