Emission, Europe, US, Volkswagen

German Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt has exposed the lies of the Auto Giant Volkswagen that the emission issue was only for the cars manufactured for US, stating that the cars supplied in Germany also do not have the regulatory emission standard.

Cheating by this auto giant seems to be in all countries. Whether government of India will test and find out the truth of the cars supplied in India?

CAT, Full Pay, Suspension period

The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has ordered that an employee is entitled to full pay and allowances during the period of suspension from the employer in case of acquittal and the grounds of acquittal have no bearing on the matter.

In its order in Mohinder Singh,  an employee of BSNL, Abhor Vs. BSNL  the CAT stated ” An acquittal whether on benefit of doubt or otherwise should lead to the same consequences. Therefore, the applicant is entitled to full pay and allowances for period of suspension ordered only because of the criminal case”.

On the basis of this order, similar cases can be taken up in CAT.

Privatisation of Airports

The Air India Unions have been airing strong opposition to the proposals of the government for privatising the four profit making airports of Kolkata, Chennai, Jaipur and Ahmedabad, by investing some few crores from private companies in the name of modernisation. Already the Airport Authority had spent thousands of crores of rupees for modernisation of Chennai and Kolkata Airports.

It is reported today that due to the vehement opposition of the unions, the privatisation proposals have been set aside. Privatisation only increases the air charges as also for every thing in the airport to maximise the profit of the private companies. The government should completely stop privatisation of airports.

Car-free Day, Delhi, Gurgaon

After Gurgaon has observed a Car Free Day on 22nd September 2015, which showed a reduction of 21% pollution reduction in the city, Delhi also has decided for such Car Free Days. As the first step, 22nd October 2015 will be a Car Free Day between Red Fort and India Gate. More roads  may be made Car Free and also such more days will be decided.

This is a good decision. Along with that more public services like Bus, Metro also should be provided.

Chhattisgarh Text Book states Working Women cause Unemployement – Stupid, Nonsense!

unemployment, Working Women

It is reported in the Times of India today, 23rd September 2015, that a Class X Text Book published by the Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education, contains the following  sentence: “Working Women are one of the causes of unemployment in the country”! How stupid and nonsense! Does it mean that women should not work and should be contained in their homes doing cooking and other house hold chores? Does it mean that unemployment does not include women? Are women not part of the society? It is surprising such feudalistic and chauvinist ideas are being included for the study of  children.

The State and Central Governments should immediately act and remove such uncivilised, anti-women and sexist portions from the books which are being taught to the future generations. Tough action should be taken against the culprits responsible for including such nonsense in the text book.

Rename Mughal names of Roads and monuments – VHP

change of names of roads, monuments, VHP

PTI has reported today that the VHP has demanded that all roads and monuments named after Mughal emperors be re-christened. According to it, such names are ‘signs of slavery.’

The Modi government has already changed name of Aurangazeb Road, named after the Mughal emperor, which has brought sharp reactions from many parties and citizens. In Delhi itself, there are many roads named after Mughals, like Shajahan Road. In other cities are many more. Many monuments are named after them. Is VHP hoping that all these can be changed? If so, they are in ‘fools’ paradise’.

The ISIS is destroying heritage sites and monuments, where they have conquered. This has been strongly condemned by the UN and many governments. Today VHP demands for changing the names of roads and tomorrow, they will demand destroying the Mughal monuments, as they have demolished the ‘Babri Masjid”.

Is there any demand by VHP to change the names of the roads and monuments named after the British King/Queen and other persons, like Victoria Memorial? Are these not ‘signs of slavery’?

Any such proposal to erase history and heritage are to be opposed and defeated.

Car-free Day, Gurgaon

Today, 22nd September is World Car-Free Day. This is being observed by not using the car today to combat air-pollution and to avoid traffic jams.

India’s  millennium city, Gurgaon, is observing it with the pledge that every Tuesday, between 7 am and 7 pm, it will not bring out its cars so as to avoid both air pollution and nightmare traffic jams, which the city is facing every day.
.
So four major roads of the city –   DLF Cyber City, Cyber Park area, Golf Course Road and Electronic City – that are lined with offices and which see the heaviest flow of traffic in the city every day, have turned car free today. Cars parked here will be towed away, the police said. People are travelling on bicycles and enjoying.

Miners saved

bilaspur-tunnel-workers_650x400_51442835172

The friends, relatives, public and the team working to save the miners trapped in the tunnel more than one km below in Himachal Pradesh, heaved a sigh of relief at last, when two out three miners trapped were saved and brought up alive. The men were working on a 1200-meter tunnel, which is a part of a highway project, when a large section caved in on September 12.Satish Tomar, Maniram and Hriday Ram were trapped under layers of debris and boulders.

After 200 hours of sustained effort and digging one km in the ground, the former two miners could be saved. No information about Hriday Ram so far.

The workers are alive even after 200 hours is  itself a miracle, though they were given, food, water, medicine etc. It is felt that there should be mechanism for quicker action in similar situations.

Delhi continues to top maximum polluted cities

Delhi, Pollution

Even after much promise of action against pollution  in Delhi since the World Health Organisation (WHO) stated that Delhi is the most polluted city in the world, the latest reports indicate that nothing has changed much. According to a report in “Nature”, a science magazine, Delhi will be among the top three polluted cities in the world till 2050. A terrific ordeal for the people of Delhi. High pollution kills thousands of people every year, directly or indirectly.

The Government of India has utterly failed to save its capital city from pollution. Prime Minister Modi’s “Ache Din” is not for the Delhites?

New Delhi, Sep 20: CPI(M) General Secretary Com. Sitaram Yechury today demanded that the NDA government call a special session of Parliament to discuss issues concerning Dalits, including reservation in private sector jobs and special plans for the community.

“We had raised this demand when Modi Government assumed office at the Centre and we will again raise this demand in Parliament,” he said addressing a ‘Dalit Sansad’, organised by Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch here.

“Reservation has no meaning unless it is also allowed in private sector,” he said, adding that his party would continue to press the demand for a special session of Parliament for discussion on issues related to the Dalit community.

“We have been raising the demand of special (development) plans for SCs and STs for over two decades without any results and it needs to be discussed in a special session of Parliament,” the CPI(M) general secretary said.

Pointing to continuing “exploitation of Dalits in the country”, Yechury said, “India cannot develop into a strong modern nation unless Dalits are enabled to exercise their rights and protected from atrocities.”(PTI)
