CPI(M) opposes US military bases in India

CPI(M), India-Us Military agreement, Protest

CPI(M) has issued statement strongly opposing US military bases in India, which is reproduced below:

“No Bases for US Armed Forces

“The Modi government has taken the dangerous step of deepening military collaboration with the United States by agreeing to allow US armed forces to use base facilities in Indian naval and air force bases.

The US Defence Secretary and the Indian Defence Minister have announced an in principle agreement has been reached for a Logistics Exchange  Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA). This is just another name for the Logistic Support  Agreement (LSA) that the United States enters into with military allies like Philippines, South Korea and Japan. Unlike what the Defence Minister says, refueling, maintenance and repair facilities for American ships and airplanes will require the  stationing of US armed forces personnel on Indian soil on a regular basis.Along with this agreement, the Defence Minister has indicated that two other agreements are on the anvil, Communication and Information Security Memorandum of Agreement (CISMOA) and Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA).  These will make the Indian armed forces command and control structure integrated with the US armed forces. In doing so, the BJP government has crossed a line which no other government has done  since independence – converting India into a fullfledged military ally of the United States.

By this, the Modi government has compromised national sovereignty and the strategic autonomy of the country.  All political parties and patriotic citizens should oppose this surrender to the USA.   The Modi government must be told that these anti-national steps do not have the support of the people. It should immediately retract from signing the Logistics Agreement.”

It is expected that both pollution and traffic will be reduced due this programme. Delhi has to ensure that pollution is reduced for which small sacrifices have to be accepted by all.

Govt. of Venezulea declares Friday in addition to Saturday and Sunday as Off days.

Five Days week, Venezuela

A report from Caracas, Capital of Venezuela is given below regarding declaration Friday as off day, in addition to Sunday and Saturday, to save electricity.
“Caracas, Apr 7 : Venezuelan workers will get Fridays off for the next two months as part of an emergency plan to save electricity, the president said.
Venezuela has the world’s largest proven oil reserves but its economy is a mess, with rampant inflation, shortages of goods as basic as soap and toilet paper and constant blackouts.
Now, because of a severe drought that has left levels at hydroelectric dams at extremely low levels, in order save on electricity the government is effectively shutting the labor force down for a three-day weekend, starting this Friday and lasting until June 6.
The decision was announced by President Nicolas Maduro in a speech on state TV.”

While many of the foreign countries have two days off in a week, in India it is still 6 days week. Many MNCs and private companies in big cities are having five days week in India also. This will save electricity and also will cut costs. That is why the demand for five days in BSNL is also fully justified. BSNL Management should think about the same.

Black Money, Panama Papers, NPA etc – Government unwilling for strict action

black money, foreign funds, Government, Tax haven

It is very clear now that the the Central Government, while shouting at top hitch  that strict action will be taken against hoarders of black money in to tax heaven and unlawful foreign accounts etc, is actually trying to delay and weaken such actions. Whether it is collecting the Rs. 20,000 crore tax arrears from Vodafone or Rs. 12,000 crore tax arrears from Nokia, or taking action against the black money put in tax havens exposed through the Panama Papers or Swiss Accounts by rich and influential persons violating tax laws – the government is dilly-dallying. The statement of the Finance Minister Arun Jaitely or RBI Governor Raghuram Rangarajan and others in power that ‘questioning of legitimacy of self-made wealth is dangerous’ and ‘strict actions will discourage foreign inflow’ etc. are only to help these law-breakers and tax evaders.

This one again proves that the government is the ‘government of the corporates, by the corporates and for the corporates.’ Expose the unholy alliance of the corporates, the government and the super rich, who jointly exploits the common people.

First Communist Ministry, Kerala

In the first elections conducted for the state assembly in 1957 after formation of Kerala State, the Communist Party won and the Communist Ministry with Com.E.M.S.Namboodiripad was formed. The ministry was sworn on 5th April 1957.It was a ministry with stalwarts like EMS, T.V.Thomas, K.R.Gowri Amma, C.Achutha Menon. V.R.Krishna Iyer, Joseph Mundassery and others. It implemented important legislations like Land Bill, Education Bill etc. which made a basis for future programmes and progress.

The ministry was dismissed by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru without any justification. The first Communist Ministry and Com.EMS will ever be remembered since they laid the foundation for the fast growth of the state in various fields.

Bonus is Deferred Wage – It should be restored to BSNL Employees

01 Friday Apr 2016

2016, Bonus, BSNL, BSNLEU

Bonus has been denied to the BSNL employees for the last 3-4 years on the plea that the company is in loss. Bonus is the right of workers. It is deferred wage and can not be denied on one plea or another. The Central Government employees, P and T employees etc. got Bonus after prolonged struggles starting from the Bonus Convention in 1972 organised by the Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers led by Coms. K.G.Bose, A.S.Rajan, N.J.Iyer, K.Adinarayana and other leaders. The great Railway Strike of 1974 clinched the issue. Though the Congress government continued to deny Bonus despite strong struggles, the favourable decision came after the Janata Government came to power in 1977. Since then, the central government employees are getting Bonus, including telecom employees. After formation of BSNL, on the demand of the BSNL Employees Union for “Bonus for All”, executives also started getting bonus.

BSNL is getting revived after much effort on the part of the workers and the management. Workers have to be motivated for further progress.

BSNL Management should take the correct decision by granting at least the minimum Bonus of Rs. 7,000, which it paid earlier. Further revival, more bonus can be paid. Any decision to fool the workers by throwing down some crumbs will have only strong reaction. We demand the management to be wise and take the correct decision.

105 years – Loss Calcutta, win Delhi

Delhi - New Delhi

Calcutta lost to Delhi 105 years back! Calcutta was the capital of the British Empire in India since it took over from the East India Company. Simla was its summer capital.
In December 1911, with the big Durbar of King V of England and Emperor of India at Delhi, the capital of India was declared to be at Delhi. But it took about 20 years more for the actual shifting, during which period, Viceroy’s Bunglow (present Rashtrapathi Bhawan) and other buildings, Connaught Place etc. were constructed and the New Delhi became the capital of India. The actual shift took place in 1931.

It is interesting to note that every time the capital is shifted to other cities, after some time it is returned to Delhi again. Capital was shifted to south during Tuglak’s time, but it came back. Akbar shifted capital to Agra, it came back again to Delhi. British also shifted their capital to Delhi.

Delhi had got its own charms. It has got its aggressiveness also. Despite severe heat and cold during summer and winter respectively, those who come to Delhi mostly settle here.

Delhi is Delhi! No other city can beat it, despite its many short comings!
