Demonetization – Brutal Harassment of People

11 Friday Nov 2016

The demonetization  implemented by the Modi Government  has put the common people to untold sufferings. There are long queues before the ATMs and people waiting for hours together to getting a few hundred notes for day to day needs. Village people with no bank accounts and Adhar are at a loss what to do. Two persons in the queue have died. Banks do not have sufficient notes, majority ATMs are closed after the filled up notes are withdrawn. Life of people are completely deranged.

The Modi government is not worried about the hardships of the people   It only wanted to take political mileage before the elections in a few states including that of UP. It is stated that the decision was taken about six months back which means a good number of people and especially at the higher level are aware of the same.

In the Indian situation, where corruption is rampant, the possibility of the rich and powerful getting prior scent of the action and carefully converting their black money can not be ruled out. The government should immediately examine the entire big transactions of the last five-six months  and take stringent actions, if it is sincere in catching black money.

The Government and Reserve Bank of India should take immediate steps to make available sufficient currency to the people to ameliorate their hardship.

3 year ban for celebrities for misleading advertisements

11 Friday Nov 2016

It is reported that the Group of Ministers headed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitely has decided to impose a maximum three year ban on celebrities who endorse misleading advertisements. The earlier proposal was penalty including jail, but the same was dropped as an afterthought.

What about the owners of the product who are putting the misleading advertisements. They should be penalised with much more stringent punishments. It is cheating the public and endangering their health. Such people, however high they may be, should not be spared.

Condemning statement of Defence Minister on reversing of ‘No First use of Nuclear Weapon’

11 Friday Nov 2016

The statement of Defence Minister Mr. Parrikar that India should revise its “No First Use Nuclear Weapon Policy” is most condemnable. The later clarification that it is his personal opinion does not hold water or reduce the serious damage done to the time tested policy of the Government of India.

This statement is a complete reversal of the long standing and accepted policy of the Government of India since Independence. The Defence Minister, through his irresponsible statement, has put India in a poor light before the world. He should apologize to the people. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should speak out what is the policy of India in this matter.

Is it justified to continue separation of Class III, Class II and Class I or Executives and Non-Executives?

11 Friday Nov 2016

The British Rulers have separated the government employees in to many categories like Class IV, Class III, Class II, Class I etc. Not only in salary and allowances, but in fringe benefits also, the differences were kept. There were differences between British, Anglo-Indian and Indian (native) in qualification for appointment, salary, promotion etc.

These were all part of the capitalist/imperialistcolonial system of government. By about six decades of independence, most of the discriminations between the  Class IV and Class III in government services have been removed. In fact, the Class IV cadre as such is being fully eliminated merging with class III. In Public Sector like BSNL, these two classes have been merged into ‘non-executives’. Almost all the service conditions are made equal.

In government services, the differences between Class III, Class II, class I and IAS continues. In the PSUs, differences exist between Non-Executives, Executives and top Managerial posts.

Are these differences necessary in a democratic set up? Of course, differences will  be there on certain issues like pay, allowances, benefits etc. connected with higher responsibility, position etc. , but the present huge differences are not at all justified. The unnecessary and out dated colonial arrangements intended to serve the foreign rulers need to be put an end to.

As another forward step in this direction, as done in the case of merger of Class III and IV, it is necessary that the Class III, Class II and Class I should be merged as also the Non-Executives and Executives putting an end to the unnecessary, unwanted and outdated artificial divisions of the working class.

Times are changing, world is changing. There is no need to hang upon the mistakes of the past. The need of the time is to change such outdated rules, conventions and practices. But it is not easy since it is the topmost people who wield the power and who safeguard their vested interests.

A serious debate has to start on the justification, feasibility and implementation of eliminating these unwanted differentiations.

Rs. 11,000 Crore Penalty on Reliance Industries for stealing gas from ONGC fields

Reliance, stealing gas

The government of India has slapped Rs. 11,000 crores on Reliance industries owned by Mukesh Ambani for stealing gas from the nearby ONGC fields. The stealing and cheating was found years back, but the UPA government did not take any action. This was well known to the NDA government also, but it also did not take any action. Now that the the matter has become public after the enquiry report, the government was compelled to take action and hence the slapping of the present penalty. It has been reported that the entire gas storage in the ONGC field has been wiped out by the Reliance through its nearby Reliance oil field. There was objection even when the government field was allotted to Reliance.

Cheating and stealing by ordinary people are crime and they are arrested and jailed when caught. But Mukesh Ambani, even after cheating and stealing gas worth Rs.11,000 crore, not only goes scott free, but is honoured and respected by the government and the politicians!

Kerala State Completes 60 Years!

60 years of Kerala

60 years have passed since Kerala State was formed on 1st November 1956. 60 years is nothing in the life span of a state. But during these years, it has achieved many firsts, like in literacy, health and social commitments to the people. At the same time, there are weakness that have got to be removed.

The first  Ministry under Com.EMS Namboodiripad was one of the best governments Kerala has seen with its progressive legislations and correct direction. Let us hope that the present LDF Government under Com.Pinarayi Vijayan will continue the forward march started by the first Communist ministry in 1957.

My Quarter Century at Delhi

25 years at Delhi, BSNLEU

I am completing 25 years of Union service at Delhi, a long period indeed! It was in the first week of November 1991 that myself and Com.Moni Bose reached Delhi to take over charge of CHQ AITEEU Class III, after the historic victory in the Bhopal All India Conference held in the last week of October. Veteran leader late Com. K.Adinarayana, former Secretary General of NFPE and many other leaders were there to receive us. AITEE Union changed in to AITEE Union(N), and then after formation of BSNL and merger of about 8 unions, BSNL Employees Union was born on 21st March 2001.

BSNL Employees Union has grown as the biggest Union in BSNL and the major recognised union. It has settled many major issues of the Telecom Workers. It has defended BSNL from the attacks of the government and stopped VRC/CRS, Disinvestment and unbundling of the priceless copper cables from privatising with the joint efforts of all the unions/associations. Two major wage revisions have taken place which largely benefitted the workers. Better promotional prospects have been ensured. One more wage revision is to take place.  Other important demands are also there. BSNL Employees Union and its leaders and workers are capable of dealing and settling them.

During these 25 years,I had the opportunity of meeting thousands of workers all over the country, discussing with them, receiving their hospitality, love and affection. I thank all these comrades!

I thank the comrades of Delhi, the leaders and workers of CHQ and others who made my life and work enjoyable and fruitful and who were with me in thick and thin.

Let us continue marching ahead in the path shown to us  by our great leaders:

“Unity for Struggle, Struggle for Unity and Unity and Struggle for Progress!”

“Workers of the World, Unite!”

Strategic Sale of about two dozen PSUs cleared by Cabinet

closure HMT Tractor, Strategic sale of PSUs

Government is busy with selling its ‘Family Silver’. The Cabinet on 18th October has decided to disinvest and or Strategically sell about two dozen profitable as also non-profitable PSUs.  The Cabinet also decided to close HMT Tractor Division. The HMT Tractor employees have not been receiving salary regularly since July 2014 and there was no increase in wages for years.

Selling the “Family Silver” has  started in right earnest under the Modi Government. Tata and Ambani were the favourites of the UPA Government. Who are the favourites of Modi Government? Adani or Ambani or both?

‘Equal Pay for Equal Work’ – An important Judgement of the Supreme Court

Equal Wage for Equal Work, SC

An important judgment has been pronounced by the Supreme Court on ‘Equal Pay for Equal Work.” A Bench of Justices J.S.Khehar, and S.A.Bobde said the principle of equal pay for equal work constitutes a clear and unambiguous right vested in every employee, whether engaged on regular or temporary basis.

The Bench further said ” In our considered  view, it is fallacious to determine artificial parameters to deny fruits of labour. An employee engaged for the same work, can not be paid less than another… Certainly not, in a welfare state.Such an action besides, demeaning, strikes at the very foundation of human dignity.”

The Bench continued:”Any act of paying less wages as compared to others similarly situated, constitutes an act of exploitative enslavement, emerging out of a domineering position. Undoubtedly, the action is oppressive, suppressive, and co-ersive as it compels involuntary subjugation.”

The judgement is establishing the right of the workers and their demand : Equal Pay for Equal Work”. This is a great judgment indeed! The government and the Management should implement. ( With inputs from “Times of India”, 27-10-2016)
