Rs. 11,000 Crore Penalty on Reliance Industries for stealing gas from ONGC fields

Reliance, stealing gas

The government of India has slapped Rs. 11,000 crores on Reliance industries owned by Mukesh Ambani for stealing gas from the nearby ONGC fields. The stealing and cheating was found years back, but the UPA government did not take any action. This was well known to the NDA government also, but it also did not take any action. Now that the the matter has become public after the enquiry report, the government was compelled to take action and hence the slapping of the present penalty. It has been reported that the entire gas storage in the ONGC field has been wiped out by the Reliance through its nearby Reliance oil field. There was objection even when the government field was allotted to Reliance.

Cheating and stealing by ordinary people are crime and they are arrested and jailed when caught. But Mukesh Ambani, even after cheating and stealing gas worth Rs.11,000 crore, not only goes scott free, but is honoured and respected by the government and the politicians!

Indian Railways buy oil from Reliance.

Oil, Railways, Reliance

Indian Railways, the biggest industry/service in the country, will not buy oil from the biggest corporate in India. This is part of the gradual privatisation/ private entry of the railways. Till now, Railways was purchasing oil from the PSUs only. BJP government is repaying the corporates for the support and election funds given by them. The press report in this connection is given below:

“NEW DELHI: Reliance Industries Ltd, controlled by India’s richest man, has started selling diesel to the state railways for the first time since 2005/06 after pricing of the fuel was freed, a company source said on Wednesday.

Indian Railways, the country’s biggest diesel guzzler, consumes up to 2.5 million tonnes of the fuel each year. Until last year, it received supplies from state refiners who used to be compensated for selling fuel at below-market rates.”

BSNL, Reliance, SBI

It is reported by the Bank Unions that there is a move to shift the BSNL connections of State Bank of India to Reliance. Already the majority services of the SBI is being outsourced to Reliance as part of the neo-liberal policy of the Government. In continuation, the phones are being planned to shift from the PSU BSNL to private corporate Reliance.

Com.V.A.N.Namboodiri, Convener, Forum has already spoken to Shri R.K.Upadhyay, CMD BSNL, to take immediate steps to ensure that the SBI connections are retained to BSNL. Messages have also been sent to the Directors of BSNL.

Oppose Back-Door Privatisation of SBI – CITU

CITU, Protest, Reliance, SBI

CITU has issued the following statement on the SBI- Reliance Agreement:

It is reported that the State Bank of India (SBI) has signed up Reliance Money Infrastructure (RMIL), an Anil Arnbani Group company, in a ‘business correspondent’ deal to source a range of banking services. The deal authorises RMIL to identify borrowers; collect, process, and submit loan applications; promote credit groups.take up post-sanction monitoring, follow-up, and recovery. As the service provider, RMIL will also collect small-value deposits; sell micro-insurance, mutual fund and pension products; and receive and deliver small-value remittances. According to the report the deal which was concluded on February 25 this year had been made effective with retrospective effect from October 5, 2013.
This is nothing but backdoor privatization of the basic segment of the banking operation in the leading Public Sector bank like SBI– the core area of lending, recovery and also a part of deposit collection work.

We fear that this strategy now started with SBI will make inroads in other nationalized banks. The outsourcing is being done to agencies controlled by the largest monopoly house which had been named by the CAG in a recent scam, having a clear conflict of interest striking at the root of the very purpose of bank nationalization. Moreover, the Reserve Bank of India has blacklisted many of the service providers engaged by AXIS BANK, HDFC BANK etc., in the recent past, mainly because these agencies breached the trust of the banks that have engaged them.

The amendment of banking regulations carried out in a UPA-NDA joint operation inside Parliament has allowed a big number of private banks to enter into the field. The present move of outsourcing core lending cum deposit related jobs in nationalized banks is complementary to the former and the project is one of privatization of the entire banking operation and economy. This will be disastrous to the national economy, which could survive the global financial crisis primarily due to the nationalized banks. This also exposes the real intent of the Congress and BJP policies in favor of corporate cliques, both domestic and foreign.

Centre of Indian Trade Unions opposes any move to privatise the Public Sector Banks in any form. This move must be resisted tooth and nail. The CITU extends full support and solidarity to the Bank Employees Federations in their struggle against this move. We call upon the people in general and working class in particular to oppose this atrocious move by the SBI.

State Bank Attacked, Most works being hand over to Reliance Company

Agreement, Reliance, SBI

The papers have reported a shocking news ! An agreement is made between the Public Sector State Bank of India and the big corporate Reliance Money Infra,an Anil Ambani Company, through which most of the works of SBI are being transferred / outsourced to the latter. Although the agreement is signed on 25th February 2014, it is with retrospective effect from 5th October 2013. It is unbelievable.

SBI is one of the best run Public Sector Bank with good profit and with a best customer service. Its service is appreciated much. I have my own experience to that. Then why the services of the SBI are being handed over to a private corporates whose credentials are doubtful.

Is it because that the reliance could not get the licence to start a bank, that the government is making this gift to Reliance? Is it because not to recruit more employees to SBI? Or is it to maximise profit for Reliance? And this agreement is reported to have been made more than one month earlier, but with out any publicity. No discussion in the Parliament, no debate in the country, every move was secret. Even otherwise is it ethical to take such a decision when a new government is going to come and the General elections are going on.

The ruling UPA government owes an explanation to the people of this country for such an unwanted and hasty decision. I am sure the Bank workers and for that matter the Central and other trade unions will strongly react to this anti-people decision.

2G Scam – Reliance and Tatas

2G, fraud, Reliance, Tata-

The skeletons in the cup-board are falling down one after another in the 2G scam. Now in his testimony to the CBI, Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani has stated that the Tatas has funded Unitech to take undue advantage in the 2G spectrum auction. There is every chance that it is true. In the same way, allegations have been made against Reliance that it funded Swan Telecom in the same way.

This is the way of these big telecom companies violate the law. Both the Tatas and Reliance have cheated the government and taken advantage of the loop holes in the law. They should be taken to task for causing huge losses to the government and the people.

DMRC will operate Airport Link Express

Delhi Metro, DMRC, Reliance

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will take over the operation of the 23 km metro link to Airport from Reliance, which has gone back from the agreement to operate the services on the plea of operational loss. Reliance has been operating the services.

One fact has become very clear. It is only profit that the private companies are interested ; not the convenience of the people or service. When it is profit, they are there. The moment it posts loss, they drop it and go away putting the people in trouble. The government should penalise Reliance for the withdrawal and failure to honour the agreement.
