Birsa Munda, Jhansi Rani

What is common between Rani Lakshmi Bai and Birsa Munda?

It is well known that Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi was the heroine of the 1857 First War of Independence and sacrificed herself at the young age of 23 at the altar of freedom for the country against the British imperialists. She was born on 16th November 1835 and died in 17th June 1858.

Birsa Munda was the leader of the Santhal Revolt of the Adivasis who fought against the Britishers in the forests of the present Bihar and Jharkhand states and was killed. He was only 25 years having been born on 15th November 1875 and killed on 9th June 1900.

Both of them fought against the British, they became martyrs at their young age and their birthdays are in the same week, although Rani Jhansi was born 50 years earlier than Birsa Munda.

Our Revolutionary Homage to both these martyrs who died for the freedom of the country at a very young age!

Bhopal Gas Victims, Compensation

The Bhopal Gas victims have been demanding for more compensation and also to include those who have been left out from the list of victims, though eligible for the same. Now five of these victims have started hunger strike putting the above demands. Amnesty International was also putting pressure on the government. More than 200 women were sitting along with the fasting women.

After a meeting with the representatives of the women victims, Ananthakumar, Minister for Chemicals and fertilisers, announced that the compensation will be increased and the list of victims will be revised to include the left out victims.

To that extent, good news. There should not be any delay in implementing these, since intolerable delay has already occurred and many have died without getting compensation.

16 Left Parties Accuse BJP of Forcing Communalism

Defeat Communalist forces, Left Parties

Kolkata, Nov 13 : Lashing out at BJP and RSS, 16 Left parties today adopted a resolution against communalism and accused the Centre of trying to force “Hindutva ideologies” on the entire country.

The 16 Left parties including ten constituents of the Left Front in West Bengal led by CPI-M and other Left parties like SUCI(C), CPI(ML-Liberation), CPI(ML-Santosh Rana) and PDS today organised a convention and adopted a resolution against spread of communalism in the country and the state.

“Due to communal polarisation throughout the country, a threat is looming large over secularism and democracy. BJP, after achieving majority, has sped up this communal polarisation,” the adopted resolution stated.

“The corporates too have joined hands with communal forces. BJP, which is controlled by RSS, is trying to spread its ideals for creating a Hindu Rashtra,” it said.

The resolution also stated that various important educational, cultural and think-tanks of the Union government have been filled with RSS loyalists.

“They are trying to force ideologies of Hindutva on educational institutions. In such a situation, the minority community is feeling alienated and are suffering from identity crisis. And Islamic fundamentalists are trying to using this opportunity,” the resolution said.

“Bengal, which has been known as a stronghold of secularism, is too under threat of majority and minority polarisation and communalism. The misrule of Trinamool Congress due to its narrow-minded politics has provided space for communal polarisation in the state,” it stated.

Demanding stringent steps against communalism, the resolution also condemned the way a particular community and madrasas were being targeted as a fallout of the Burdwan blast last month.

The Left parties today appealed to the masses that communal forces should not be allowed to spread its wings in the state.

“Those who are talking much about religion and nationalism, are they not aware of their credentials and political legacy? Their political legacy is the demolition of Babri Masjid and fuelling of communal riots in the country. We have to defeat such forces in the state,” CPI(M) Politburo member Surjya Kanta Mishra said while addressing the programme.( Courtesy: Ganashakti)

125th Birth Anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru Today, 14th November 2014 is the 125th death anniversary of the Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Independent India and visionary who laid out the fundamentals for the new India. He was the architect of modern India and also leader of the Non-Alignment movement. His ‘Socialist Pattern of Society’ could not survive him for much time, though. But the Congress and its leaders have forgotten the Nehru legacy and have moved far away in to the thick jungle of corruption and neo-liberal policies putting the people in to more and misery. On this occasion, I remember the day in 1956 or 1957 when I had the opportunity to see him and take his photo. It was when I was working as a teacher that he came to Tellicherry in Kerala. I wanted to get his autograph, but the security did not allow me to go nearby. I had a camera with me, presented to me by a foreign pen friend. (Cameras were not much in use at that time). After a few minutes with the camera I went near the PM. Security might have thought that I was from the press and allowed. I went nearby took a photo and got an autograph also. Respectful Homage to the Architect of New India!

Dr. Martin Luther King, FBI

It is well known that Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of US is completely unethical and will use brutal force and any dirty trick to eliminate persons or group who are against the US imperialism. Hundreds of examples are there. The latest in this series is the revelation that it has sent a letter to Nobel Peace Prize Winner and well known Civil Rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King, in the name of an unknown supporter of the latter, calling him an ‘evil abnormal beast’ and instigating him to commit suicide.
Dr.King and his followers might have understood or doubted about the hand of FBI in the letter. Anyhow the FBI managed that Dr. King is shot and killed. Communists and civil rights people were the targets of the FBI and might have eliminated many.
Of course FBI is a dirty hyena!

Delhi is expected to go to Polls

After the AA Government resigned, the Delhi assembly is kept in suspension, probably in the hope that the BJP will be able to form the government. It seems that hope is lost. The BJP has told the governor that they will not be forming the government.
Hence the Governor may recommend for polls. So, one more election for Delhi electorate.

BJP Poll Promises hollow – Sitaram Yechury

BJP shameless, Sitaram Yechury

New Delhi, Oct 30 : CPI(M) today targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying all his poll promises like “economic miracles of ‘achche din'” and bringing back black money are turning out to be “completely hollow”.

Noting that the Supreme Court compelled the government to place the list of 627 Indian account holders in a Geneva bank, senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said the apex court’s “unprecedented” castigation of the government “clearly show that this Modi government is shamelessly trying to protect those who stashed away black money abroad.”

“One after another, all the election promises made by the Prime Minister during his whirlwind nationwide campaign, in a corporate jet, are turning out to be completely hollow – full of bluster and no substance,” he said in an editorial in the upcoming issue of CPI(M) organ ‘People’s Democracy’.

He said the people had seen the “eagerness and enthusiasm of India Inc. in promoting Modi and acting as his ‘cheer leaders’ during the election campaign and even now. They had liberally financed the election campaign in an unprecedented manner.”

“May be, such ‘protection’ that this Modi government is providing to black money hoarders abroad is part of the ‘pay back time’ package for those who have rendered invaluable financial and material support during the election campaign.”

Noting that the government’s “so-called economic miracles and achhe din aanewale hain” had already been exposed, Yechury said, “now it is the turn of the PM’s bluster concerning the claim that his government will ensure that all the illegal black money stashed away in foreign banks in financial havens will be brought back to the country and used to improve the livelihood of the people.”

Along with this, the CPI(M) leader said the ruling BJP was “pursuing their hidden agenda of sharpening communal polarisation as their only way to consolidate the Hindu communal vote bank,” posing serious threat to India’s social unity and integrity.

More Austerity Measures – Ban on recruitment, ban on Plan and Non-plan posts.

austerity measures, ban on creation of posts

The austerity measures announced by the government, while pruning some unnecessary expenses at the top level, will really be hitting the common man. Ban on creation of posts, both of plan and non-plan posts, will hit the employment chances of the eligible youngsters. It is also stipulated that the posts being vacant for one year will be abolished and not revived.

Further these austerity measures will reduce public expenditure which will reduce the developmental activities, subsidies etc.

The people who expected ‘Achhe Din'(Good days) while voting BJP is now reaping the ‘Bure din'(Bad Days).

Kerala formation

On this 1st November, Kerala state completes 58 years of its existence. It was on this day in 1956 that the reorganisation of Madras States was implemented forming Andhra, Kerala and Karnataka states. This greatly helped in these linguistic states plan their development and better living condition for the people.

As far as Kerala was concerned, it was the fulfilling of the dream of Aikya Kerala by merging of the Malayalam speaking Malabar, Cochin and Travancore areas in to one piece. And in the election to the first state assembly, the Communist Party came in to power and the Communist Government was formed with Com. EMS Namboodiripad as the Chief Minister. It was one of the best government Kerala has ever seen since.
