CPI(M), Do not subsidies

Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Finance Ministry has decided to implement a ten per cent cut in the government’s non-plan expenditure for the current financial year. These austerity measures do not involve only a ban on first air travel or meetings in five star hotels, but subsidies will bear the main brunt of the cuts. This would mean cut in subsidies meant for the people and welfare measures.

The government should come out and explain under what heads these cuts are being made. The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) opposes any cut in expenditure on subsidies to the people and welfare measures.

Brazil, Dilma Rousseff

Newly re-elected Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has said she would soon be announcing measures for economic recovery and to strengthen the fight against inflation, but not before holding an extensive discussion with all sectors.
In her first public appearance a day after her re-election, the head of state told two television channels on Monday that she would attend to her voters’ appeals for change but that, first, she would discuss these with all parties, including the opposition.
Ms. Rousseff was re-elected Sunday with 51 percent of the votes. Her opponent, social democrat Aecio Neves garnered 49 percent. “I am not going to wait for the end of the first term to launch the actions necessary to transform and improve the growth of the economy,” said the President in a reference to the low growth rates and high inflation in the country (Courtesy : Ganashakti )

SC, Unaccounted money holders

After the severe rap by the Supreme Court against the Government yesterday in not intimating the names of the account holders in foreign banks, the Attorney General submitted names of 627 account holders to the supreme court in a sealed cover today.

This new development is good. Now it is for the Supreme Court to decide whether to release the same or not. Now the government can not hold back the names any further.

Black Money – SC directs Government to share the names with the court

black money, NDA Government, SC

In a big set back to the NDA government, the Supreme Court today directed the government to share by tomorrow the names of all Indians with foreign bank accounts.

The government was dilly-dallying without giving the names of the black money account holders. The SC has correctly censured the government.

Both the ruling parties will have skeletons in the cup board. Let all this tumble upon the floor. The BJP, which was shouting from the hill top that if they are elected they will publish the names of black money holders as also that the unaccounted money will be brought back to India is backing out in the name of treaties etc.
The SC direction is fully justified.

Parliament session

The Winter Session of the Parliament will start on 24th November and will end on 23rd December 2014. Many bills are expected to be placed in this session.

BJP, after its win in the Haryana and Maharashtra assembly elections may become more aggressive in implementing the anti-worker neo-liberal policies and handing over the PSUs to the corporates and MNCs.

Punnapra-Vayalar Martyrs

October 27th is the 68th Anniversary of the valiant armed struggle of 1946 organised by the people of Vayalar ( Alapuzha in Kerala) against the autocratic rule of the Travancore Diwan who wanted the US model to be implemented in the then state of Travancore. The people under the leadership of the Communist Party of India faced the armed police of the State with lathis and spears. The result could not be other wise. Thousands of peasants and volunteers were killed in the firing by the armed police. A few days earlier at Punnapra also similar firing took place which took many lives. The people of Kerala remember these Martyrs who fought against autocracy of the Travancore rulers, every year at Punnapra and vayalar.
Today, 27th October, was the culmination of the observation of Punnapra – Vayalar Martyrs Day. Rallies and homage at the Martyrs Memorials were organised with participation of thousands of people. CPI(M) and CPI leaders gave the lead.

Our Red Salute to the Martyrs of Punnapra vayalar armed struggle !
