Condolences, TS Rajan

With deep grief and sorrow, it is intimated that Com. T.S.Rajan, veteran leader of the P and T Trade Union movement and former Dy. General Secretary of All India Telegraph Traffic Employees Union Class III (T.III) passed away in the early morning of today, 28th December 2013. He was ailing for some time and was hospitalised a few days back in a Mumbai Hospital. He was 78. He was staying with his son at Mumbai.
Com.T.S.Rajan, a committed and dedicated comrade to the cause, fought for the correct policy and democratic line in the organisation. He was a prolific speaker and was well studied. Even after his retirement, he used to visit Delhi for attending conventions etc. and used to be in close contact with BSNLEU CHQ. Whenever I visited Mumbai, I used to meet him and discuss organisational matters. I still remember his attending the Conference of BSNLEU at Trichy even though he was not well and was taking rest.

We have lost a great leader. On behalf of BSNLEU, AIBDPA and on my own behalf, I convey my Heartfelt Condolences to the bereaved family, friends and Comrades!

Subservience to US should stop, Mutual Respect and Equal Treatment is the way.

India, relations, US

For the last one month since the Indian diplomat in US, Devyani Khobragade, was strip-searched as part of the US security routine, the angry Govt. of India has taken retaliatory measures against US diplomats in India by curtailing / cancelling additional privileges granted to them earlier. The GOI has withdrawn the Special Airport Passes, cancelled the special ID cards issues earlier, removed the barricades erected in front of the US Embassy for security etc. Now Nancy Powell, US Ambassador to India cancelled her trip to Nepal, probably due to the cancellation of the special air-port passes, which may result in routine security searches.
So far so good. Retaliation was of course necessary. But why did the government of India grant all these out of the way benefits, facilities and special considerations to the US Diplomats and relatives, when the same was not extended to the Indian counterparts? Also when even the President of India and Ministers visiting US is insulted by security searches, why was the GOI sitting calm and was silent? It was as a result of the servitude to the US, the biggest power in the world. This servitude has to end now and forever. The slavery of about two centuries under Britain has lowered the prestige and self respect of the present Indian rulers. This has to change. India is also a sovereign country and is not less than any other country, US or UK.
Let the Devyani incident be the roadmap for a new relation based on mutual respect and equal treatment to the citizens of all countries.

CPSTU Meets on 1-2 February 2014

CPSTU, Public Sector

A meeting of the Steering Committee for Central Public Sector Trade Unions (CPSTU) is scheduled to be held on 1-2 February 2014 at CITU Centre, B.T.R. Bhawan, New Delhi to discuss and finalise the immediate issues and tasks before Public Sector Union movement.

The Public Sector is being attacked by the UPA-II government as never before. To weaken the PSU Banks, the government has decided to grant permission to Corporates to open banks. Disinvestment and privatisation of many PSUs are in the offing. The cash reserve of the profitable PSUs are being taken away by government by increasing the % of dividend to be paid by the PSUs. In the name of reforms, labour laws are being liberalised to favour the corporates and big business. Recruitment of regular workers are stopped/curtailed and contract workers are engaged who are not even paid minimum wages. Labour laws are not implemented, but blatantly violated. Bonus is being denied. Many other issues are pending settlement for a long time.
Naturally all these issues as also the task of continuing the struggles are expected to be discussed in the meeting. CPSTU has always been in the forefront of the struggles of the Public Sector workers.

AAP, Delhi Govt.

The AAP is going to take the Delhi Government after the swearing in ceremony on 28th December 2013. There is no doubt that this will make a big difference from the corrupt administration during the BJP and Congress rules. My Best Wishes for the new government!
The new AAP government should steadfastly work to mitigate the sufferings of the toiling workers of Delhi who are inhumanly being exploited by the bureaucracy and contractors. Pro-people policy and decisions should be implemented at the earliest. The support given by the voters should be utilised for the improvement of the conditions of the people.

Govt. should decree Rs. 10,000 as Minimum Wages to unorganised workers.

BSNLCCWF, ILC, Minimum Wage

The demand of the Central Trade Unions that ‘Minimum Wages of not less than Rs.10,000 -per month with provisions of indexation’ is the correct and fully justified demand. This was raised in the 10 Point Charter of Demands by the Central Trade unions two years back on which sustained agitational programmes have been organised. The 48 hours strike on 20-21 February 2013, the National Convention of Workers on 6th August and the latest Parliament March on 12th December 2013 are all part of these struggles.
The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in the 45th Session of Indian Labour Conference held on 17th May 2013 had stated that the demands raised by the Central Trade Unions are mostly undisputed and unexceptionable and are the in the advanced stage of consideration by the Government. The Committee headed by Defence Minister A.K.Antony, which again met the leaders of the Central Trade Unions on 22nd May 2013 assured quick decisions, but nothing happened so far.
The Memorandum submitted by the CTUs after the massively participated Parliament March on 12th December has urged the Government to act upon the commitment made by the Prime Minister. It also stated that ‘ The Trade Union movement can not accept the present state of inaction and indifference on the pressing demands of the workers and people lying down and will heighten their united struggle in the face of continuing unresponsiveness’.
The minimum wages of not less than Rs. 10,000 for the workers is one of the major demands in the Charter. The Casual/Contract workers in BSNL will fully participate in these united struggles under the leadership of the BSNL Casual and Contract Workers Federation which is part of this great movement for the rights of the workers and people.
Strengthen BSNLCCWF by all the casual/contract workers joining the Federation and becoming active members.

File Burning in Delhi Secretariat to destroy evidences of corruption

Corruption. Congress, Delhi Govt.

In the wake of the taking charge of Delhi by the AAP, it is exposed through a sting operation that many files in the Delhi Secretariat are being torn and burnt to avoid evidences of large scale corruption by the former Congress Government. The AAP will take charge after the swearing in ceremony tomorrow, 28th December.
Strong action should be taken in such criminal offences. There will be many such skeletons in the cupboard of the 15 year rule by Congress.
