death anniversary, E.Balanandan

balanandanToday, 19th January 2015, is the 6th death anniversary of Com. E.Balanandan, the veteran trader union leader, former President of CITU and PB Member of CPI(M).

His life has been full of struggles for the working class and he himself has to suffer victimisation. Three times Member of Parliament(both in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha), MLA as also the President of the militant trade union, CITU, he was active till his death.

As to other trade unions and their leaders, Com. Sami, as he was affectionately called by comrades and friends, was also the guide and advisor of the BSNL employees trade union movement also. The more than four decades of contact with him has been always been an inspiration to me and many others.

On his death anniversary, I pay my respectful homage to Com. E.Balanandan.

Red Salute to Com. Balanandan!

Patrice Lumumba

Anefo_910-9740_De_Congolese2

It was on 17th January 1961, 54 years back, that Patrice Lumumba, the legendary first Prime Minister of Congo who fought and won independence from Belgium in 1960, was murdered by the Dictator Mobutu, who through a coup with the connivance of  imperialist countries, US, Belgium captured power. Unfortunately even the UN did not intervene, though requested by Lumumba.

He was a true patriot, democratically elected and fought against imperialism. We pay our respectful homage to Patrice Lumumba on his death anniversary.

Reduce the price of oil – CPI(M)

17 Saturday Jan 2015

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Sham of Lowering Petrol & Diesel Prices

The Central Government has for the fourth time since November hiked the  excise duties on petrol and diesel which will bring the Government revenue of 20,000 crores rupees. Thus instead of the people of India benefitting from the 55 per cent decrease in the global price of crude oil since June 2014, the Government is exploiting the situation to fill its own coffers.

These steps of the Government also expose its totally hypocritical approach regarding deregulation. If the market is to determine prices as the Government holds then when the market price is down why should the people be deprived of its full benefit? Instead of this the Government has made just a token decrease keeping in mind the Delhi Assembly elections.

If the Government is short of revenue it should end giving tax concessions worth lakhs of rupees to corporates.

The CPI(M) strongly condemns the excise duty hikes. It demands that the full benefit of the fall in global crude price be passed on to the people and that the retail prices of petrol and diesel be commensurately cut. It calls on its units to raise this demand through protest actions.

Government closing down 6 Central PSUs

17 Saturday Jan 2015

Closure of PSUs

One of the most important agenda of the Modi Government, it seems, is disinvestment, privatisation and closure of the Public Sector Units in the country. One after another almost all the PSUs are being disinvested. And now the closure has started. 6 loss making PSUs are going to be closed. They are: HMT Watches, HMT Chinar Watch, HMT Bearings, Hindustan Cables and Tungabhadrea Steel Limited and Hindustan Photo Films.

The policy of both UPA and NDA governments are to privatise all the PSUs.  The method is first to make them in loss through various methods and then close them. This is what is happening to these 6 companies. They were good, profit making PSUs which helped the nation’s growth. Now they will be sold as waste.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister, while inaugurating ITI declared that ‘the Public Sectors are the temples of Modern India’. Now the declaration of former Manmohan Singh Government was and present Modi Government, is one and the same:” WE WILL CONVERT ALL THESE MODERN TEMPLES IN TO CEMETERIES”.

Are the people of the country, the working class, going to accept this non-sense? No. The l fight for the correct policies and strengthening of PSUs will continue.
