Maggi banned

Coming down heavily on Swiss giant Nestle, the central food safety regulator FSSAI on Friday ordered recall of all nine approved variants of Maggi instant noodles from the market, terming them “unsafe and hazardous” for human consumption.

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) also said Nestle launched ‘Maggi Oats Masala Noodles’ without approval and ordered its recall, saying the company did not undertake risk and safety assessment for the product.

“Withdraw and recall all the nine approved variants of its Maggi Instant Noodles from the market having been found unsafe and hazardous for human consumption, and stop further production, processing, import, distribution and sale of the said product with immediate effect,” the FSSAI order said.

The FSSAI also said that Nestle violated labelling regulations on taste enhancer ‘MSG’ and ordered company to submit compliance report on its orders within three days.

“Withdraw and recall the food product, ‘Maggie Oats Masala Noodles with Tastemaker’ for which risk safety assessment has not been undertaken and product approval has not been granted,” the order said.(PTI)

dangerous food, Maggi

One more case of the MNCs and Corporates in the food section, selling unhygienic and dangerous products has been exposed.

Now it is Maggi, the ‘so called nutritious and health food for the children especially’. The UP Government has found that dangerous ingredients are there and is planning to prosecute the company and its brand ambassadors like Amitabh  Bacchan, Madhuri Dixit and Preity Zeinta.  Delhi Government is going to ban it and to take stringent action against the company. Kerala government has stopped the sale of Maggi in its stores.

Stringent action should be taken against such companies who endangers the lives of crore of people.

BSNLEU, CEC, Decisions

BSNL Employees Union, the recognised union in BSNL, has notified that its Central Executive Committee Meeting will be held at Dalhousie, H.P., from 16th to 18th June 2015. The CEC is meeting for the first time after the All India Conference at Kolkatta and hence will be having a long agenda for discussion and decision.

The ‘Save BSNL, Increase Landline – Better Subscriber Service’ Campaign is a priority issue to be discussed. Already the Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations has called upon all the unions/associations and employees to put maximum efforts for a better service to the people and also increasing the landlines utilising the present scheme of free night calls from BSNL landlines.

It is almost time for the next Wage Revision. What are the demands, when to raise the issue and how to achieve the same in the present situation when BSNL is in loss etc. will have to be discussed and suitable decision taken.

Restoration of Medical Allowance, LTC, Bonus, grant of E-1 scale, stagnation, deduction in salary, change of designation and other such issues are there. In the name of loss, how many years, the workers have to take all the burden?

Organisation has to be streamlined for the next verification of membership, to increase the number and % of votes.

There are many other issues which require urgent attention. I hope that the CEC will discuss all these issues and come to clear conclusions and decisions.

Agartala, Dhakka, Kolkatta

The first bus from Kolkata through Dhakka reached Agartala in Tripura today. It reduces about 1,000 km of journey which were going  roundabout earlier without touching Bangladesh.

This will help a lot of people in Tripura to reach Kolkatta for treatment  purpose etc. The understanding between India and Bangladesh has made this possible.

1st June, International Children's day

Today, 1st June is the International Children’s Day.

Let us pledge to provide the children a happy life, education, care and support. Let them grow in a loving atmosphere. Let us not take their childhood putting all burden on them, making their lives unhappy and unpleasant.

Let us remember on this day the crores of children in India, who do not have even two meals a day, who could not go to schools, who are compelled to work and whose lives are full of misery. Let us help them.

Children are the Future of humanity. Let them grow and make the world a place of friendship and peace!

CPI(M), Land Acquisition Bill

New Delhi, May 31: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the decision of the Union Cabinet to once again promulgate an ordinance on the land acquisition issue. This BJP government has failed twice in the past to sustain this legislation by getting parliamentary approval.

The re-issuance of this ordinance at a time when a joint parliamentary committee has been constituted to examine the implications of the amendments proposed by the BJP government to the 2013 law approved by parliament is particularly objectionable.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands, in the light of the Prime Minister statement yesterday that the new land acquisition bill is not a “life and death question” for him, that this ordinance be kept in abeyance till the joint parliamentary committee submits its report and parliament takes a considered position on this amended land acquisition Bill.

Service Tax increased

New rate of service tax will be introduced from 1st June 2015, which will result in paying more for each and every thing. The present rate is 14% an increase of about 1.64% from the earlier 12.36%.

While the government continuously declares about ‘achche din’, the people are compelled to pay more and more.

HMT Watch and other 4 PSUs to be closed

Govt., HMT, Sale of PSUs

Modi Government is determined to finish the PSUs. The latest is that it has decided to close 5 PSUs viz. HMT Watch, HMT Chinar Watch, HMT Bearing, Thungabhadra Steel and Hindustan Cables. It is expected by the government to get Rs. 22,000 crore from the sale, while the cost, including VRS etc. will be around Rs. 1,400 crore.

These companies are situated in the heart of the cities, have a lot of land and building assets in addition to the infrastructure. Since these are treated as sick companies, the sale will be done just like distress sale, meaning that the companies may be handed over for a meagre price compared to its assets as has been sold in the earlier NDA regime companies like VSNL, Centaur Hotel and others.

Implement Food Security Act – CPI(M)

CPI(M), Food Security Act

New Delhi, May 29: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Polit Bureau strongly condemns the deliberate negligence of the Modi Government towards implementing and improving the Food Security Act and its expansion to ensure food security as well as nourishment to all Indians. This is all the more urgent in the light of the 2015 FAO report on the State of Food Insecurity. Although the methods used by FAO are a gross underestimation of the extent of malnourishment and hunger, even this report is a damning indictment of the claims made both under the UPA and now under the Modi Government as today India has the largest numbers of undernourished people in the world.

In the last year under the Modi Government (2014-2015 and estimates for 2016) the report estimates that the total number of people undernourished in India has gone up from 189.9 million (2012) to 194.6 million.

As a proportion of the population, the decline is significantly lower in the last year just 0.4 percentage points as compared to five percentage points between 2010-2012. In other words, the situation has worsened under the Modi Government.

The Modi Government should stop its false claims of being pro-poor and take immediate action to ensure universal coverage of the public distribution system with an expanded list of cheap rations including a minimum of 35 kg of food grains per family at a maximum of two rupees per kilo.
