Coal Gate, Illegal approval of coal blocks

Now it is official. In the face of undeniable evidences, the government conceded in the Supreme Court that 11 companies were allotted Coal Blocks with out going through the approved process.
These companies are Reliance Energy, Tata Power, Balco, SKS Ispat and Power, Prakash Industries, Green Infrastructure, Visa Power, Vandana Vidyut, GVK Power, Gagan Sponge Iron and Lanco Group Limited. Some of the big corporates like Tata, Reliance vedanta and others are included.
This is only the start. Many more skeletons are in the cup board waiting to fall down. Already the government has stated in the SC that they are going to cancel about 90 licences issued.
The Coal Gate is one of the biggest scam the country has ever witnessed and the Congress Party/UPA Govt. will have to answer the people in the loss of about Rs. 2 lakh crore tot the government. The people are going to give a suitable reply to the UPA at the time of General Elections.

Anti-Corruption Helpline, Complaints, Delhi

The reports in the media state that the Anti-Corruption Helpline started by the AAP Government in Delhi has received 4,000 calls in the first 7 hours.
It shows that the people have started reporting corruption complaints with out fear. But it seems that all the complaints received are not of corruption but also other complaints.
More important is not the number of complaints that is received, but it is the number of complaints on which action is immediately taken and the culprits booked.
Being the capital of the country and the power centre, corruption is at the highest in Delhi. People are faced with corruption and favouritism every where. If the AAP move can at least reduce it, it will be a great relief to the common people.

2G, Coal Gate, SC, UPA govt.

The Central Government was compelled to admit in the Supreme Court that “Something has gone wrong”in the allocation of the Coal Blocks, while the hearing was going on yesterday, 9th January. Attorney General G.Vahanvati stated the same for the government.
The government had no other alternative to admit wrong doing in the face of umpteen evidences, both oral and by records.
The central government’s move to put the state governments also in the scam was completely opposed by all the concerned state governments including those ruled by the Congress, stating that it was entirely the responsibility of the former to allot the blocks and the latter have no role in the same.
The UPA government has been in the middle of so many scams involving lakhs of crores of rupees including the 2G Scam. The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been presiding over a scam tainted government. In the Coal Gate Scam, the Prime minister himself was the Coal Minister.

Black Money slashed in foreign Accounts – Is the government serious?

Black Money in Foreign accounts, GOI, penalty

“According to Swiss National Bank statistics, at the end of 2012, Indians had 1.34 billion Swiss francs (Rs 9,000 crore) stashed in the European country’s banks. This doesn’t include money that Indians may hold in Swiss banks in the names of others or trusts.

To be sure, the amount has shrunk from over 2 billion Swiss francs at the end of 2011 after an anti-corruption movement in India focused public anger against black money.” (ET report)

The government of India is telling that despite maximum pressure on these European governments, it is not able to get the name of persons, corporates etc. who have stashed these amounts.
It may be true, may not be true. But one thing is sure that the government is not serious, since many of those who stashed the money are of the highest echelon, may be many of the top politicians also. The government has not published the names of those persons, whose list is already with the government, on the plea that bilateral agreements does not allow them to be published.
What the government is actually doing is giving a chance to these tax evaders and holders of black money to safely change it to other places/countries, where the government has not moved so far. By the time the details of the accounts with the name of holders are received, there will be no money in the accounts for the government to take any action, even if it wants.

Lokpal Act

The President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee has given assent today to the Lokpal Bill passed by both the houses of the Parliament, thus making the anti-Corruption bill in to law. Now the same will be published in the Gazette.
Thus after years and years of effort, the Lokpal Act has come into being. While it will be Lok Pal at the Centre, it will be Lokayuktas in the States.

VVIP Chopper deal cancelled

At last, after lingering for years, the Government of India has cancelled VVIP Chopper deal with the Anglo-Italian company Augusta Westland for supply of 12 choppers at a cost of Rs. 3,600 crores.

There were complaints of kickback to the tune of Rs. 360 crores, which was investigated in to earlier.Three choppers have already been supplied.

There were many complaints earlier also about kick backs /corruption in defence deals, but many of them were kept under the carpet on the plea of security concerns. Now, the government is under compulsion due to the allegation of large scale corruption in the government and hence the cancellation.

Corruption. Congress, Delhi Govt.

In the wake of the taking charge of Delhi by the AAP, it is exposed through a sting operation that many files in the Delhi Secretariat are being torn and burnt to avoid evidences of large scale corruption by the former Congress Government. The AAP will take charge after the swearing in ceremony tomorrow, 28th December.
Strong action should be taken in such criminal offences. There will be many such skeletons in the cupboard of the 15 year rule by Congress.

Adarsh Society Scam Report rejected by Maharashtra Government

Adarsh Scam, Justice Patil Report

The Justice (Retd) J.A.Patil report in the Adarsh Society Scam which indicted four former Chief Ministers of Maharashtra Government among many other bigwigs, who got unauthorised allotments in the Society flats, has been unceremoniously rejected by the Maharashtra Government. The former Chief Ministers include Sushil Kumar Shinde (present Central home minister), Ashok Chavan, S.N.patil and Vilas Rao Deshmukh. It was tabled in the floor of the Maharashtra Assembly on 20th December, the last day of the session and the Government, then and there, rejected it. What else the Government will do when its four former Chief Ministers are indicted?
Corruption at high level and defending the same and converting inquiry reports has become the order of the day.
Inquiries and their reports are being made a mockery by those who are indicted.
Postscript: It is interesting that Rahul Gandhi, Vice-president of Congress called upon the Nation to end corruption two days back. But what about the scam report against the Congress Chief Ministers in Maharashtra? Any action?

What Rajiv Gandhi said ?

Bofors, Party funds, Rajiv Gandhi

I am reproducing a report published in one of the prominent daily’s e-paper:

“Rajiv Gandhi told me to use arms deal payoffs for party funds: Ex-CBI chief

“At a time when the funding of political parties is the subject of fresh controversy, a new book has claimed that Rajiv Gandhi, as Prime Minister, wanted commissions given by defence suppliers to be pooled and used to fund the “inescapable expenses of the party”.

“The just-released book, Unknown Facets of Rajiv Gandhi, Jyoti Basu and Indrajit Gupta, is written by former CBI director Dr A P Mukherjee and the claim is based on his conversations with Rajiv in June 1989, the author has said.

“Rajiv, incidentally, was caught in the thick of the Bofors guns bribery scandal at that time and lost power later that year.

“Rajiv Gandhi was very clear that commissions paid as a routine by most defence dealers should be properly accounted for and not siphoned off by dishonest officials of the armed forces and politicians…he wanted such payments to be pooled and accounted for,” Mukherjee has written.

“This (elections) leads to massive fund collections by important party functionaries all over the country, which leads to an almost unbreakable unholy quid pro quo nexus between unscrupulous party functionaries, ministers and businessmen. I could sense this as the party’s general secretary or even as its youth leader earlier when I had to enter the political arena with considerable reluctance,” Rajiv told him over coffee, Mukherjee has written.

“Rajiv, he says, had come to know that some senior officers of the armed forces had been surreptitiously collecting huge a”mounts of money as “commissions” in most defence purchases, quite often in connivance with some ministers, middlemen and civilian officers as well.

“Rajiv, the former CBI director says, “discussed this problem with some of his trusted colleagues and advisers when it was suggested by some that all commissions as payable or usu”ally paid to middlemen should be banned but the commissions to be given as a matter of routine practice by the suppliers of major defence materials could be pooled under the care of some non-government entity which could be utilised solely for the purpose of meeting the inescapable expenses of the party.”

If this is true, then the Bofors scam seems to be a real planned scam for funding for the Congress party..

CBI can not be the wagging tail of the govt./ruling party

CAG, CBI, Freedom, Government

The cat is out of the bag! The Central Government has stated that it is against giving more powers to CBI. Earlier, the government spokesmen always used to say that let law takes its own course. It was when the CBI was completely under its control. After the Supreme Court intervened asked the CBI not to consult the government in the coal scam etc. before submitting its report to the court, the government has become agitated. It very well knows that once CBI is given freedom to inquire on its own with out the control of the government, the Ministers, top politicians etc. will be caught by the CBI. That is why now both the Prime minister as well as Finance Minister has started attacking the CAG and CBI and don’t want to give it freedom to enquire in the corrupt cases etc.
The Supreme Court should ensure the Independence of the CBI. It should not be the wagging tail of the ruling party.
