BSNL, Five Day Week

The demand for a ‘Five days Week’ for BSNL employees is fully justified. Why?

  1. 5 Days weeks is  internationally accepted.
  2. The MNCs are observing  it.
  3. Central government employees in Delhi have already 5 days week.
  4. BSNL Corporate office is a ‘Five Day Week’ office
  5. Most of the  corporates in metros have 5 days week.
  6. Five days week means less electricity, diesel, petrol consumption and less expenditure for the company
  7. By increasing half an hour daily, the loss work on Saturdays can be compensated.
  8. The programme will motivate the workers for putting more work.
  9. Workers can spend some more time with their family
  10. At least one hour to 4 hours can be saved on Saturdays for the journey to and fro from home to office and return.
  11. 5 Days Week will be a relief especially to the women employees who have to work in the office and also at home.

WORKERS CREATE WEALTH – THEY SHOULD BE HONOURED AND GRANTED A PORTION OF THE BENEFIT THAT THEY GIVE TO THE SOCIETY!

The BSNL Management should seriously think about implementing 5 days week.

The Central Trade Unions have demanded Rs. 18,000 as minimum wage for contract workers and it is one of the demands on which a one day strike will take place on 2nd September 2016. The demand for a minimum wage of Rs.15,000 has been updated to Rs. 18,000, after the VII CPC has recommended Rs.10,000 as the lowest wage on the basis of the Dr. Akroyd formula. While this demand is pending, the government is proposing Rs. 10,000 only as minimum wage to contract workers. This is discrimination and denial justice.

BSNLCCWF strongly oppose the move of the Central government to fix a minimum wage less than Rs. 18,000. It strongly demands that the minimum wage for contract workers be fixed at Rs.18,000.

BSNL, strikes, Struggles

BSNL Employees Union and the JAC/Joint Forum/Forum of BSNL Unions and Associations have organised number of struggles and campaigns to defend BSNL from privatisation and to revive it. The following list is an indication of the efforts made by the employees to bring BSNL to its past glory:

  1. 11 All India strikes given notice of out of which 5 were deferred after agreement. 6 Successful strikes took place.
  2. Three All India Conventions took place with pan India presence.
  3. 5 Parliament Marches with participation of thousands of workers.
  4. A number of times, programmes like Post Card/Telegram/Badge Campaign, demnstration/dharna, hunger strike etc. were organised.

We will have to continue these struggles for strengthening BSNL and restroing its past glory.

Why not united unions for Executives and Non-Executives in BSNL?

10 Sunday Apr 2016

Executives, Non-Executives, united organisation.

The formation of Joint Action Council in BSNL by the unions/association in BSNL was a great step, which resulted in the historic strikes of 2006 (deferred after agreement) and 2007  to defend and save BSNL. Further struggles and joint actions were organised. From 2006 onwards, 6 major strikes have taken place under the leadership of JAC/Joint Forum/Forum on the issues of the workers as well for the revival of BSNL, while 5 strikes were called off after agreement. This is a great record.

Now if the unions of non-executives and associations of executives can jointly function and go on joint strikes, is it not possible to have a united union or association including both the executives and non-executives? When the number of total workforce in BSNL has been reduced from 3.5 lakhs to 2.10 lakhs and there is not much recruitment further consolidation becomes necessary.

The question of a united organisation requires to be debated for coming to a correct conclusion.
