SBI Chairman Smt. Arundhati  Bhattacharya has stated that no branches will be closed after Merger of SBI and Affiliated Banks and only relocation may be there.

This is nothing but misleading the workers and the Public. In many places, almost all the banks are nearby and the affiliate banks are liable to be closed. No relocation also will take in small towns / cities. In case of relocation, most of the customers will leave because of the distance.

There should be strong movement against the merger not only from the point view of workers, but also from the point view of customers.

What we have been telling all along about safeguarding BSNL assets, including land,  buildings etc. has been pointed out by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament. It has asked the central Government to investigate and take action against concerned officials for mismanagement of land under BSNL.

The PAC approved the CAG report on land management in this connection.

According to PAC, BSNL is having 402.99 lakh sq.m of land asset. Out of this 1,953 plots measuring 32.46 lakh sq.m are completely vacant plots.

The PAC has also pointed about huge encroachment of BSNL  land in various circles. In fact, BSNLEU had brought about such encroachments in Telecom Factories at Jabalpur, Richai, Kharagpur etc. to the BSNL after the joint visit of Com.V.A.N.Namboodiri, then General Secretary BSNLEU and Shri Nigam, GM (TF), Corporate Office to all the Telecom Factories. Encroachments  in other places were also pointed out, in some places by the Muncipalities/ Corporations.

Now , it is high time that BSNL Management takes this as an important task. The present opportunity can be utilised to get full ownership of these assets from the Government / DOT.

It is reported that HMT Ltd. has decided to pay arrears of pay to its former employees who have been sent out or left the company after November 2000. The company has to pay arrears since 1992. The company was running in loss and could not pay full salary. The former employees have been asked to contact the HR  Department of their unit at Bengaluru/Tumkuru/ Nainital/ Delhi/ J&K respectively with proof, identity card and residential address on or before 30th September 2016 for the claims.

Govt. is preparing to close many other loss PSUs.

With great sorrow it is informed that Com.Sukumar Mitra, founder member Calcutta Thika Mazdoor Union, passed away on 23rd August 2016. (We got information today only.). He was one of the leaders of the Casual Contract Workers movement and contributed a lot. He served our workers since the DOT era as being the leader of Line Staff Gr.
