Petrol, Diesel prices may increase daily.

The decision of the government that petrol and diesel prices will be fixed daily is an affront to commonsense and is intended to help the oil companies to increase their profit. In addition to the confusion due to daily price fixing, The customers will be exploited much more than at present. Though the Government has stated  that the prices are being fixed in relation with global prices, in practice it is completely different. When the global prices increase, it is increased here also. But when the global prices decrease, by increasing the taxes etc. the customer does not get the benefit. End this ruthless exploitation of the common people!

Modi Government is practically becoming the government for the corporates!

Remembering Jallianwala Bagh Martyrs

1) The walls with the marks of firing 2) Martyrs Column 3) The well in which dead bodies have been dumped.

Long 98 years have passed after the massacre of more than 1,000 innocent people including pilgrims who gathered at Jallianwlla Bagh for Baisakhi festival on 13th April 1919. A protest meeting against the brutal lathi charge on the leaders of the freedom fighters were also going to be held. The British General Dyer ordered fire against the thousands of people gathered killing more than 1,000 and wounding many thousands. The narrow way to outside was completely blocked so that people can not escape.

This is one of the most tragic incident of the past. After Independence, a Martyrs Column has been erected at Jallianwala Bagh in 1961. The deep well in which large number of dead bodies have been dumped is still there. One can see the the scars of the shots in the buildings round the Bagh. 13th April is celebrated every year as Martyrs Day and meetings with thousands of people are held there. I also got the chance to participate in one such meeting.

Red Salute to the Immortal Martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh!

Declare Andaman Cellular Jail as National Monument – CPI(M) MP

“New Delhi, Apr 11 A CPI(M) member today expressed concern in the Rajya Sabha that the Andaman Cellular Jail, which represented death-defying heroism of the freedom fighters, has not yet been declared a national monument.
Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Ritabrata Banerjee said the Cellular Jail in Port Blair has “unfortunately even today” not been declared a national monument and the government seems to have “no records” as far as the jail is concerned.
He said the popular sound and light show there continues to ignore most of the heroes and seems to have ignored historical records and sought a comprehensive portrayal of the realities.
“The Jail and light and sound show is dedicated to one single cell of a particular inmate. Historians belonging to all schools of history and British archive records that no inmates were kept in a single cell for more than a week. They were rotated,” Banerjee said.” (Courtesy: Ganashakti)

I completely agree with the demand raised in the Parliament. Hundreds of freedom fighters belonging all states in the country were put in the Cellular Jail in Port Blair and many of them died there mostly due to the harsh conditions and physical torture. Some of the tools of torture as also the gallows are still there. The names of those martyrs who died while in prison are also kept there. Many of the wings of the building have been demolished to construct a hospital or so. The demand to keep the Jail as a national monument should be accepted by the government.

IT major Cognizant retrenches 10,000 employees

Cognizant Technologies Solutions, a major IT company, which has got ten units in India, is on a retrenchment mode. Almost 10,000 employees are being sent out by retrenchment or resignation. The units are at Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Coimbatore, Mangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Gurugram and Kolkata. Those who do not resign even after pressure may be retrenched out right. This is the method of the MNCs and Indian corporates. Hire and Fire is the method and the government usually does not interfere in the matters of the corporates. It is time that strong trade unions are formed in the IT sector to resist such attacks on the workers.

Malayalam Compulsory subject in Schools _ Kerala Government

The decision of the Kerala government making Malayalam, the official language, compulsory in the schools is a good decision. It gives more respect to the language, provide a chance to children to learn and understand their mother tongue and a lift for the Malayalam culture itself. Congratulations to the Kerala LDF government!

Uproot corruption to save BSNL

Tags

,

BSNL workers, officers and the top management are making all efforts to bring back BSNL in to a profitable PSU and provide a better service to the customers. Workers even implemented their decision to increase working hours by one hour till 31st March 2017. BSNL is providing more than 20 lakh mobile connections for the last many months despite fiery competition. Operational profit is increasing and it is expected that by 2017-18, it will post real profit.

In addition to the anti-worker, anti-PSU policy of the government, one more reason for the present loss of the company is the rampant corrupt practices of a some employees/officers. At one time, BSNL topped the list of corruption, but it has come down. Still, even when the company is in loss, the corrupt practices go on. I am giving below such two press reports where CBI has caught one TDM , a retired Junior Accountant and one AGM in difference cases.

1. “JAIPUR: The CBI has arrested a telecom district manager (TDM) and a retired junior accountant of BSNL for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district.

According to a CBI source, the accused allegedly took Rs one lakh from a contractor to clear his bill following which they were arrested.

“TDM had demanded the bribe from the contractor of optical fiber cable, Sukhbeer Singh Sinsinwar, to clear his bill amounting Rs 60 lakh through his middleman, a retired junior accountant.

“They were caught by the team at the TDM’s residence in Bharatpur last night when they were taking the bribe amount,” the CBI source said.

After initial questioning, they were on Friday placed under arrest on the charge of criminal conspiracy. They were booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

A search was launched at the office and residence of the officer, the source said, adding, they will be produced in a court later on Friday.”

2. “NEW DELHI: The CBI today claimed to have recovered cash and properties worth crores during its searches at the residential premises of a BSNL Additional General Manager arrested for alleged bribery.

In an operation late last evening, the agency had arrested Gupta Chandra Bidika, Additional General Manager, Microwave Project, Bhubaneswar.

He was caught red handed allegedly taking bribe of Rs one lakh for clearing bills worh Rs 10 lakh of a contractor.

“Searches were conducted at the residence of the accused at Bhubaneswar and Rayagada District (Odisha) which led to recovery of cash for Rs 14.93 lakh, USD 603, three bank locker keys; documents related to properties, including flats, plots at Bhubaneswar and shares, debentures, policies etc,” CBI spokesperson R K Gaur said.

The agency sources claimed they had recovered documents related to a three-bedroom duplex flats at localities of Dharam Vihar, Netaji Subhas Enclave, Dreams Villa in Bhubaneswar.

The documents related to plots in Bhubaneswar, Khurda and Puri have also been seized by the agency, they said.”

We do not know what will the final result of the Inquiries. But the indication is clear. Unless the corruption is uprooted, BSNL will always be in danger. Such corrupt people give a bad name to the entire BSNL and its officers/workers. There should not be any tolerance of Corruption and corrupt people.
