The LDF Government in Kerala is fully committed to the cause of the senior citizens in the state. It has introduced a project ‘Vayomitram’ (meaning friendly to senior citizens), through which all the senior citizens are provided with facilitates comprising free medicine, counselling, free mobile clinic treatment etc. All those above 60 years and who have no other pension are  paid Rs. 1,100 monthly pension which is paid at their homes. Old age homes are provided in all the districts at government expense.

Today, I got the  chance to attend a Work Shop for Senior Citizens organised by the state government in Kozhikode. More than 500 senior citizens participated. Local MP, Mayor, Dist. Panchayath President, MLA, Police Officeers and may other dignitaries participated. The various issues of the senior citizens were presented by experts. Many old people explained the hardships they are being faced, including desertion by their children.  The laws protecting the senior citizens were explained.

It was a good experience. I could also meet a lot of seniors who distinguished them selves in various fields. (the photos are from all parts of India)

100% Disinvestment or Open sale of profitable PSU, HLL

The earlier plea of the government that the only the loss making PSUs are being sold, is now abandoned. Whether the PSU is profitable or not, it is going to be sold today or tomorrow. The design of the  government is very clear that all the PSUs, along with their land, will be handed over to the private corporates. There is no difference whether they are connected with the security of the nation, whether they are public services or in any  most important sector.

The latest information is that the profitable Hindustan Latex ( HLL Lifecare Limited ), a Mini Ratna company, is being sold with 100% disinvestment. It has a net revenue of 1,127 crores  and profit of Rs. 31 crore in 2015-16. This PSU has been profitable for continuously and situated in Kerala.

Condemn Killing of Farmers in MP – CPI(M)

New Delhi, June 6: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), now in session in New Delhi, has issued the following statement:

Condemn Killing of Farmers in MP

The Polit Bureau of the CP(M) strongly condemns the brutal killing of three kisans in police firing in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh. The police action has also rendered a large number of kisans grievously injured.

The kisans in Madhya Pradesh have been agitating peacefully for many days demanding that the state government implement the promises that have been made to provide greater remuneration to the kisans as well as debt relief.

This unprovoked police firing clearly exposes the anti-kisan character of the BJP in general and the state government in particular.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands that adequate compensation be given to the families of those who died in the police firing and the state government should provide all medical assistance to those who have been injured.

The culprits responsible for ordering this unprovoked police firing must be suspended immediately, pending a proper enquiry. The state government must immediately concede the genuine demands of the kisan agitation.

Maharashtra Farmers Strike

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) extends its complete support to the Maharashtra farmers who have embarked on an unprecedented action of a strike since June 1. The farmers have refused to bring their produce like vegetables, fruits and milk to the cities in protest against the state government’s refusal to accede to genuine demands like loan waiver in the background of consecutive droughts; implementation of the BJP’s poll promise of increasing the minimum support price to one and a half times the cost of inputs; promised pension for kisans and agricultural workers and to implement the promises regarding uninterrupted electricity and water during the agricultural season.

For over a year the Maharashtra kisans had been agitating on these issues and the state government had repeatedly sought time to meet their demands. This unique action of a farmers strike was resorted to after the series of betrayal by the state government in accepting the demands. Yesterday, June 5, the state witnessed a state wide bandh jointly called by several kisan organisations.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands that the genuine demands of the farmers in Maharashtra, which were promised earlier by the state government be implemented immediately.

Congratulations to the Pinarayi Government!

One crore saplings planted in Kerala on World Environment Day.

World Environment Dat was celebrated in a big way in Kerala. As per the decision of the LDF Government, it was celebrated by planting trees, saplings, digging rain its, cleaning tanks and rivers etc. School Children, youths, government employees, workers, senior citizens, officers, trade unions – all participated in these programmes organised in lakhs of places in the state. From the Governor and Chief Minister, all the people participated in it, despite the heavy rains. I also had a share, by planting a tree in the GM Office premises, Kozhikode, along with the GM BSNL, which was organised by BSNLEU.

Kerala is making all out efforts, under the leadership of the Pinarayi Government, to restore the natural beauty and surroundings and reducing the carbon emission level to the minimum.  Maximum efforts re also being made to make Kerala a very friendly tourist attraction.

United Struggles to save the Public Sector

The aggressive attack on the Public Sector by the Modi Government is intended to finish off all the existing PSUs, which have greatly contributed to the growth of the country, and hand over them to the greedy corporates. Whether profitable or not, all the PSUs one by one are going to be disnvested, sold and or closed.

United/Joint Struggles by the entire workers, executives and management with the support of the people are essential for saving the public sector. Leave aside other differences and unite to fight the anti-PSU policy of the government and save the PSUs.

Today, World Environment Day.

Today, 5th June, is the World Environment Day, which is observed through out the world by nature friendly actions. It is being celebrated by planting trees, cleaning lakes and tanks, initiating fresh projects for waste disposal, safeguarding the environment etc. etc. The Paris Agreement signed by 195 countries  for reduction of carbon emission in each country was a great step in this connection. Unfortunately the withdrawal from the agreement by US President Donad Trump is a step backward, which has been strongly criticised by one and all.

The LDF Government in  Kerala led by Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan has taken a series of well planned programmes in safeguarding the nature and environment. One crore saplings will be planted today in the state through  involvement of people, students, employees etc. Old lakes/tanks etc. are being renovated and new rain pits for conserving water will be constructed. School children are observing the day with various positive actions. These are being done under the ‘Haritha Keralam’ and such projects of the government. Saplings are being supplied.

Each and every citizen has a role in saving the environment and nature from destruction. Safe environment is a condition for the existence of life.
