Che Memorial in  Bolivia

On 9th October 2017, the world observes the 50th year of the martyrdom of Che Guevera, the eternal revolutionary and the inspiration of generations of youth and revolutionaries.

He was part of the guerrilla team of Fidel Castro which defeated Dictator Batista, made Cuba free and founded the Socialist state. He left the post of Minister and leadership of the party and went to Bolivia to liberate it. During the guerrilla warfare in the mountains, he was caught and executed at La Higuera, Bolivia on 9th October 1967.

The entire world remembers this great revolutionary on his 50th year of martyrdom. Tens of thousands from all over the world are expected to reach Bolivia to visit his grave and memorial.

Tata shuts its wireless services

‘The Tata Group has informed the government that it plans to shut down its wireless business, bringing an end to its 21-year-old phone services venture.’ (The Hindu).

Yes, the huge profit in running the telecom services has come down and many telcos are in loss. The entry of Reliance Jio with deep pockets has made the competition, a question of life and death to many companies. BSNL is fighting a big battle to run the services with the full support of the workers and is the main challenger to Reliance.

‘PSUs are Temples of Modern India’ – Jawaharlal Nehru. ‘PSUs are born to die’ – Narendra Modi

Tags

While inaugurating the Indian Telephone Industries (ITI), one of the first PSUs in the country in 1950, then Prime Minister Jawharlal Nehru said that the Public Sector Units are the temples of modern India, focusing on their importance.

Now the present Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reported to have stated that ‘ all the PSUs are born to die.’ And in fact the government  is killing the same one after another with out waiting for them to die.

Bajpai Government stated earlier that ‘Business is not the business of the government’ and started selling the PSUs. The UPA government was also on the same line.

In a few years, there is the possibility that all the PSUs will be killed / or handed over to the private, unless the struggle is intensified against this anti-nation anti-people corporate capitalistic policy.

United Struggle and massive campaign are required at the earliest. The decision of the Central trade Unions to organise Maha Dharna at Parliament with lakhs of workers from all parts of the country  is well appreciated. More and more section of workers and people are joining against the anti-people government policy.

BSNL should ensure Bonus to the Contract workers

,

The contract workers engaged in BSNL have not been paid the Bonus for  this year. The plea that there are no funds is not tenable. Bonus is a right of the workers as per Bonus Act and BSNL is liable to pay it.

BSNL Casual and Contract Workers federation has taken up the case with the management. The BSNL Management should look in to the matter urgently and ensure that the same is paid early.

Modi government compelled to reduce GST in certain cases

Tags

The strong protest from all over India, including from the BJP ruled states against the increased prices for food articles and common usages, the Central Government has been compelled  to reduce the  GST in some cases. However, these decisions are mostly in support of the small traders, small business etc. Whether this will reflect in the increased prices of essential articles is yet to be seen.

In such a situation, the agitations against the increased GST should continue to make the government to act fast to reduce the misery of the people due to GST.

Once again Kerala creates history by appointing Temple priests from Dalits, OBCs.

The decision of the Travancore Devaswom Board, Kerala, to appoint temple priests from dalits and other backward  classes is most appreciated. This is a welcome step. Along with 26 Brahmins, these priests from OBCs and dalits have been appointed. This is a bold decision and is to be considered by the other temple managements also.

The Struggle for Wage revision in BSNL and against Formation of Subsidiary Tower Company.

Congratulations to the BSNL Unions and Associations for taking strong agitational programmes, including strike, on the demands of  early wage revision in BSNL and against formation of Subsidiary Tower Company.

Since all the earlier struggles on wage revision included the demand of Pension Revision also, it is suggested that the demand of Pension Revision w.e.f. 01-01-2017 for BSNL pensioners be  included in this Charter of Demands!

As on earlier instances, the BSNL pensioners will be there along with the workers with full solidarity and support.
