One Rank One Pension – Again only assurance

29 Friday May 2015

Shaken by the strong protest of war veterans, the government has assured that One Rank One Pension will be implemented with out further delay. Was the government sleeping after giving earlier assurance?
Do not ignore the Pensioners. They are a force to be reckoned with.
Once OROP is granted for army pensioners, the demand of civil pensioners for the same benefit will get momentum and strength.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru – The First Prime Minister of India

Jawaharlal Nehru

51 years have passed by 27th May 2015 after the death of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964. As the First Prime Minster of India, he had to face many critical issues concerning the governance, the political legacy, international connections and so on. Some times it was felt that he was a socialist, but some other time he was almost a dictator. It was only natural since he was almost the undisputed leader.

The latest disclosure that he kept an intelligence watch on Subhas Chandra Bose and  his family etc. has opened a new debate on his role.

Although not connected with the assessment of Nehru or his government, I may narrate a small incident, when I could meet Prime Minister Nehru. He was visiting Tellicherry and a public meeting was arranged. It was in 1956 or ’57.  The security, black cats, Z category etc. were not at that time. I was working as a Teacher. I wanted to meet Nehru and get his autograph since I used collect such autographs. I tried to go near him, but the party leaders were not allowing. I had a small camera with me. (It was very rare for people to have camera during those periods. This was a camera gifted to me by a German pen friend. ) I pretended to be a press person and with the camera started taking photos. This way I could go near Nehru and get his autograph. When asked for the autograph he signed in the book smilingly.

There is no doubt that Jawaharlal Nehru was a charming personality. Probably, he was the best person to lead the country at that time. We can leave it to the historians to assess the same.

However ” Chacha Nehru” was a hero of the children. At the same time we had the unforgettable experience of the 1960 strike which was suppressed by the Prime Minister calling it “Civil Rebellion” and using all the brute powers of  the government. That also is part of history.

My respectful homage to Jawaharlal Nehru on his 51st death anniversary.

Why PMO is not disclosing Tour expenditures of PM

The refusal of Prime Minister’s Office to divulge the details of expenditure of the foreign tour of the Prime Minister is  not only a mockery of RTI but also indicates something fishy.
The PM should direct his office to divulge the details on RTI. The Chief Information Commissioner is also reported to have stated that these infornation are to be supplied.

Now it is Ashoka – BJP wants to put him in a caste

21 Thursday May 2015

Ashoka was a great king, according to history, who left the war-field and became a disciple of Budhism. It is said that he did a lot of good to the people.

His caste was not a subject matter so far. But now the BJP leaders are claiming that he was a Khushwaha by caste. At the same time, noted historiand have stated that there is no proof for the caste of Ashoka.
Why BJP wants every body to be put in locks of a caste?

BSNL, W.Bengal Circle

I am reproducing below a post in the website of W.Bengal BSNLEU on the improvement of connections etc:

“Income of BSNL West Bengal Circle has increased: “We could render our Service to the subscribers in spite of many odds”—our employees have materialized this slogan of Circle Conference, Krishnagar in reality . During last financial year it was observed that our employees have able to add 16000 New BSNL Customers in our Circle. In the last financial  year We have made a Revenue Growth of 8.34% in WBT Circle. it is learnt that we could earn Rs. 50 Crore more than the last year. We had performed significantly in EB, Marketing etc. It is also learnt that the Revenue earned from L/L almost remained same that of last year but we could not performed up to the mark in GSM segment. Comrades, we should not be complacent, we have to perform better this year.”

My Hearty Congratulations to the workers and leaders of W.Bengal Circle for the improvement. Try more and you will gain more!

Petrol, Diesel prices hike Rs. 3.13 and Rs. 2.71 respectively for a litre

Diesel price, Petrol

From tonight the prices of petrol and diesel will go up substantially. The increase for petrol is Rs. 3.13  and Rs. 2.71 for diesel per litre. The government justifies the hike on the plea that the international price for crude oil has gone up. This is the second time within a short period the prices have been increased.

When the international prices come down, it is not reflected on the price to the consumer since government increase the tax etc. But the prices increase the full burden is put on the shoulders of the customer.
