Richest people

A study has shown that half of the global wealth is owned by 85 richest persons in the world. The report, published by Oxfam, a world wide development organisation, stated that during the last 25 years more wealth has been concentrated in the richest people. It is also stated that lost of the world governments are granting big subsidies to the rich by reducing the taxes etc.
The report adds that in India during the last decade billionaires have increased tenfold. No doubt. The neo-liberal policy being implemented by the government and the most favouritism shown to the corporates and big business has resulted in the increase of the super rich.
Inequalities are rising year after year. The richest one per cent has increased their share of in income in 24 out of 26 countries for which data is available between 1980 and 2012, says the report.

A Change is necessary; A drastic change to the imperialist and capitalist system of exploitation.

Centre fumes at AAP Government for withdrawal of FDI in Multi-Retail Brand

FDI in multi-brand retail

The strong and quick reaction of the central government against the withdrawal of the FDI in multi-retail brand by the Delhi Government shows its intolerance and arbitrary nature.
It has to be noted that the Parliament passed the 49% FDI in multi-brand retail against very strong opposition in the Parliament. This will adversely affect crores of retail traders in the country. But the UPA government wanted some how to get it passed to please the imperialist countries, especially US and the MNCs like Waltmart.
The AAP government has only implemented its poll assurance that the FDI in retail will be withdrawn.
The reaction of Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma that the AAP Government decision is ” irresponsible, ill-considered, abrupt and arbitrary” is nothing but intoleration of views of others. This once again shows that the UPA government is completely under the influence of the imperialists, MNCs and big business.

SC Judgement, Superannuation benefits.

The Supreme Court has given a very welcome judgement. In the Special Leave Petition filed by the Bank of Baroda against the decision of the Allahabad High Court upholding the decision of the Industrial Tribunal which ruled that the denial of superannuation benefits to the employee was neither legal nor justified.
The family of late S.K.Kool, who was removed from service and denied superannuation benefits approached the Industrial Tribunal for justice. The Industrial Tribunal ordered a favourable decision to the petitioners. The Bank went to the High Court and lost its appeal. then i went to the SC and lost there also. The Bank was also filed an amount of Rs. 50,000 towards cost.
The decision of the SC will benefit many retrenched/removed/dismissed workers.

Govt. approve POSCO project – An attack on the people and environment

POSCO clearance

The approval of the Environment Ministry for the Posco Steel Plant in Odisha in a serious attack on the people of Odisha and a dangerous clearance which is liable to have serious environmental dangers as also miseries to thousands of poor families.
The Rs. 52,000 crore Posco Steel Plant project by the South Korean Company has been completely opposed by the people of the area and the environmentalists and NGOs. Though proposed some eight years back, it could not proceed much since the Government of india did not give environment clearance due to the strong opposition.
The new environment minister Veerappa moily seems to be in a hurry to give environment clearance to all such projects before the general elections. He has already given such clearances to two power projects, two coal mines and a port with in a few weeks of his taking over the ministry, without any consideration for the environmental and people issues.
Such hazardous and anti-people decisions should be strongly resisted and defeated.

FDI, Privatisation in Railways

The government is proposing to bring FDI in Railways in a big way. So far, no FDI has been allowed. At last, the privatisation process is going to start in the biggest industry/service in the country.
The MNCs and Indian big corporates have been pushing the government in a big way to allow them to enter the Railways.
The details will be known in a few days. FDI in railways is going to increase the fares, without any doubt.

“Need to Change the Ruling Alliance at the Centre” – Manik Sarkar

BJP, change at centre, Congress, Manik Sarkar

Tezpur(Assam), Jan 8
Stating the need to change the ruling alliance at the Centre, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today said the left along with democratic parties will play a major role in government formation after the coming Lok Sabha elections.

“People of India want a political change in the country.

There is need for strengthening the secular democratic forces,” Sarkar said while addressing a public rally here.

Citing the example of formation of the V P Singh government, he said in the last 15 years no political party has secured absolute majority, but alliance ruled the country.

“In the forthcoming parliamentary elections, regional parties will play a major role,” the CPI(M) Politburo member said.

During his speech, Sarkar termed Gujarat as the model state for communal violence, but not a model state for development as blood stains of innocent riot victims were still fresh.

Attacking both the Congress and the BJP for their “so-called secularism”, he said BJP tries to polarise Hindu votes, while Congress plays the dual role.

“If BJP comes to power, the economic and political situation will not change, only the face will,” he added.

The Chief Minister cited Tripura’s example of development in education, health, agriculture and power sectors. (PTI)

Political Parties use mobile applications in a big way.

Mobile apps in elections

The 2014 general elections will have a high level propaganda utilising mobile applications. All the major political parties are making arrangements for the same, including Congress and BJP. The successful implementation of the mobile applications by the AAP in the Delhi Assembly elections has been taken note of by other political parties also. This will help in wooing the middle class, it is assessed.

General Elections

Clear signs are already there that the General Elections may be by mid-April 2014. This is the hint given by the Election Commission, though not announced. The results may be announced in May only since the election is to be conducted in five phases.

The oncoming General Elections are going to be a way-turner. The indications are already there.

Reducing slum dwellers through statistics?

05 Sunday Jan 2014

census, NSSO, slum dwellers

The number of slum dwellers in India is a sizable one. As per the 2011 census it is 6.5 crores, more than 5% of the population. This has put the government in an unenviable position, that even after six and half decades , it has not been able solve the problem even marginally.
Now another report has come, that from the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO). According to its 2012 report, the slum dwellers are only 4.4 crores, a difference of 2.1 crores less within one year. Of course, this is not believable.
It seems that the UPA government is trying to manipulate the statistics. It knows that 2014 is the election year, and a less damaging picture is to be shown.
6.5 crore people staying in slums in the country is not a credit to any government. Speedy action is to be taken to change the situation. The slum dwellers should be provided with better accommodation and welfare measures. Reducing the number through false reports is no remedy.
