Free ATM Transactions reduced

ATM, Banks

The Banks are trying to reduce their expenditure at the cost of the customers. In order to reduce the staff in the Banks, they introduced ATMs and gave free transactions. Now the customers are adjusted to the ATMs to a great extent, then the Banks are trying to make the ATM transactions with conditions and cost. First there was no limit to the transactions, but then it was stated that there is a limit of five free transactions in Metro Cities and three in other places. Now the latest is that even in metros the limit may be reduced to three combining with the nearby non-metro cities.

If this goes on and is allowed, tomorrow each and every ATM transactions will be charged. The situation will come when the customer has to pay for withdrawing his own money from the bank even once.

It is to be noted that these are the same banks which has got lakhs of crores of rupees as NPA (Non Performing Assests), means bad loans given to the corporates and big business and which has not been repaid and will be written off later. The transactions of these crorepatis are mainly through cheque and online and not through ATMs;; hence they are not affected. It is being once again proved that all the benefits are for the rich and burdens are on the the poor and the middle class.
The present move of the Banks Management should be opposed and defeated.

BSNL the only Dependable telephone service – Hindu Report

AP, BSNL, Selfless service

It is well known to all that BSNL is the PSU which provides universal service in the country without any discrimination between urban and rural areas. Despite huge loss to the company, BSNL provides services in lakhs of villages as part of the government’s policy of universal connectivity. Private companies are interested only in profit and whenever and wherever profit is not there, they will withdraw from service.

BSNL restores its services expeditiously whenever there is any natural calamity and help the people in distress. it was done at the time of Uttarakhand landslides as also Kashmir deluge. Now when the Hudhud battered Visakhapatnam and nearby places, it is again BSNL which came to the rescue of the common people.

I am reproducing below a report from Hindu, which appreciates the service of BSNL during the recent Hudhud cyclone which devastated Visakhapatnam and nearby places and resulted in many deaths.

” When all private networks failed to provide dependable service when Hudhud cyclone battered North Andhra Pradesh, BSNL was the only operator which proved its robustness.

BSNL’s extraordinary efficiency at the time such a huge crisis – whether it is for carrying out relief operations or for filing updates to media corps or to know well being of kith and kin. “It was BSNL mobile network’s effectiveness which helped me in establishing contact with my old parents to know their well-being after Hudhud caused heavy devastation in Visakhapatnam,” Dilip, an NRI software engineer from New Jersey said.

In Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, BSNL was proved to be most dependable. “Our mobile signals and landlines functioned extremely well under trying circumstances. Our towers could radiate signals and render good services,” a BSNL spokesman stated.

The official promised to restore wherever their service was partially-affected.”

My Hearty Congratulations to the BSNL Management and workers of A.P. who helped the people in their distress and restored the services in an extremely effective manner.

Cyclone, Hudhud, Visalkhapatnam

The latest report indicates that the cyclone and Storm Hudhud had devastated the city of Visakhapatnam. Almost 70-80 percent of the trees are fallen. The towers and electric poles crashed to the ground. It was only because the people were evacuated in time that their life could be saved. The city has changed beyond recognition.

The government should immediately taken urgent necessary steps to restore the lives of the people at Visakhapatnam and nearby places affected by the cyclone.

Kashmir – In time of disaster they are together

Kashmir Disaster

SRINAGAR: Kashmiris from various religious communities, united in grief in the aftermath of the worst floods to hit the state in nearly 100 years, are helping each other deal with the tragedy.

In Srinagar, Kashmiri Muslim volunteers have been spearheading the relief operation in Durga Nag Temple, where several Kashmiri Pandit families have taken shelter. 45 such families from different parts of Srinagar are camping in the temple complex, which has turned into a make-shift relief centre after floods ravaged the valley.

Often short on resources, the relief camp is run largely with the material supplied by volunteers, among them many local Muslims who chip in with food materials and blankets for the Pandit families.

“We are all united this time, nobody thinks of himself as a Muslim or as a Hindu. The flood has brought us together, on one platform, and when we are united we will be able to deal with any situation,” said Dr Shafqat Khan, a local volunteer

“If we would not have had Muslim brothers supporting us, what would we have done? We got help from the local orphanage as well. What a nightmare it has been for us, we have wept all through,” said Chunni Ganjoo, a survivor camping at the Durga Nag temple.

Local Muslim volunteers have also set up a medical camp for Kashmiri Pandits. But with little help coming from the administration, the Durga Nag relief camp, like many others in the Valley, is still struggling with shortage of supply of relief material.

“We have not received much help from the government. We just have got 5 per cent of the material and are short by 95 per cent. We need ration, water purifiers, warm clothes and medicines,” said Rakesh Bhat, a volunteer.

At a time when not too much relief material is finding its way to the camps of Kashmiri Pandits like this one, Kashmiri Muslims and local volunteers are coming forward and contributing their bit. And after the floods, the bond between different religious communities in Kashmir seems to be stronger than ever. (Courtesy: NDTV)

28 Sept., Birth day, Shaheed Bhagat Singh

28th September 2014 is the 107th Birth Day Anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh who was hanged to death, along with Shaheed Rajguru and Sukhdev on 23rd March 1931 at the young age of 24 by the British rulers.

It is heartening to note that the SFI and DYFI, the young India, observed the day in a befitting manner by organizing a rally at his native village , Khatkar Kalan in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar District.

Let us remember the young revolutionary who laid down his valuable life for the country and pay him our respectful homage !

Doordarshan’s Explanation for Broadcasting RSS Speech is Just Plain Stupid – Brinda Karat

04 Saturday Oct 2014

Doordarshan, RSS

It is a reflection of dark times that the day after the country celebrated the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, an organisation which had been implicated in his assassination gets to have the speech of its leader broadcast, and that too, live, courtesy of the national broadcaster Doordarshan. This is a complete misuse of official machinery to promote the ideology and leadership of an organization which has no constitutional status. It also signals an ominous development that under the Modi Government, the RSS will have access to the institutions of the State.

The explanation given by Doordarshan that the speech was broadcast because it was newsworthy is just plain stupid. The speech of the RSS Chief is an annual event on Vijaya Dashami, which is also observed as the foundation day of the organisation. It may have warranted a para or two in the newspapers or even a mention in a news bulletin, but a live broadcast? Get serious. It hasn’t happened in the decades since DD was formed. What is so special and newsworthy to warrant a live broadcast in 2014 ? The only difference is we have a pracharak as our Prime Minister.

Who took the decision? It is an open secret that Prasar Bharti, which is supposed to be an autonomous body, had no idea of this plan. The supine bureaucrats in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry issued the orders, and the Directors of DD jumped to attention, rather like the swayam sevaks they were mandated to cover live.

The Director Generals of the News Divisions of All India Radio and DD are appointed directly by the Ministry without any consultation with Prasar Bharti. What worth is such autonomy, when the heads of news channels owe their posts to the Government? Can any of them dare to refuse an order?

There was a time under the Congress regime, when Doordarshan, when it had a monopoly of the airwaves, was referred to as His/Her Master’s Voice. The complaint was that it was the Government and ruling party leaders which got all the coverage. But in this case, under the Modi dispensation, DD has gone a step further, and given live coverage not to the Government at the expense of the opposition, as it was earlier, but to an extra-constitutional authority.

The RSS is a self-proclaimed sectarian organization which does not claim to represent all Indians but just one section – those who are Hindus. It is an organization which has been banned twice, which has been indicted by several commissions of inquiry as being responsible for the many cases of communal violence in independent India. More recently, its leaders and its cohorts have been instigating a highly coloured communalized campaign against so-called love jihad, spreading hatred against Muslims.

If the speech of such a leader is broadcast live, it is an assault on the constitutional values of secularism. What is his locus standi? It also leaves the door wide open for leaders of other equally sectarian organisations functioning in the name of Islam or any religious sect or “godmen” and “godwomen” to demand equal time on national TV for the rantings of their leaders.

When political parties recognized by the Election Commission of India speak on behalf of their parties during election broadcasts on Doordarshan, they have to submit written texts of their speeches which are then vetted by DD officials. Sentences and paragraphs are removed if they are not in consonance with the code of conduct set by the Election Commission. These, remember, are recognized political parties – yet even their leaders have to subject themselves to a code and are not allowed to make extempore speeches live. Did Mohan Bhagwat submit his speech to Doordarshan? Obviously not. He did not need to because it would seem that in Modi’s India, the RSS is above the law and has special privileges.

Broadcasting the speech live meant that words and ideas which should have no place in a secular society were beamed across the nation. It was shameful that Doordarshan should provide its platform for such a distorted perception of history and culture. The speech was replete with references to Hindutva and Hinduness as being the core of India. Bhagwat once again asserted ” all-encompassing truth is what we call Hinduism. It is our national identity.” Further, “unbroken current of national unity is known as Hindutva.”

No religion can be equated with national identity in a secular country. India is not a Hindu nation. The founder of the Indian Constitution rejected Hinduism and wrote an impassioned document as to why he had converted and become a Buddhist. Is it then not abhorrent that Ambedkar should be referred to in the same sentence as Golwalkar, the RSS leader who epitomized Hindutva sectarianism, and that they should be equated as great leaders by Bhagwat?

In his speech, he referred to the RSS sevaks as a workforce “energized with the pride of their Hindu national identity.” Is this the kind of sectarian stuff that the national broadcaster wants to promote? If you can propagate men being energized with Hindu national identity, then why not Muslim national identity or Sikh national identity or Christian national identity? What happens to Indian national identity?

The Information and Broadcasting Minister has much to answer for.

India belongs to the people not to the Government – PM

Prime Minister, PSU

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his radio broadcast today is reported to have stated that India belongs to the people and not to the government.

We completely agree with the statement of the Prime Minister. Only one question. If the country belongs to the people, then why the PSUs, which are also part of the country is being handed over to the corporates and private bigwigs for meagre sums, against the strong opposition of the Unions and the people.

Rich, Poor Difference going on increasing – UN-ESCAP

India, Inequality, rich & poor

It has once again been confirmed that the gap between the rich and the poor is increasing continuously and dangerously. The latest report of the United Nations – Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific has stated that there has been an increase in the income inequality in major economies in recent decades. And India is one of these.

In India the inequality between rich and the poor increased from 30.8 to 33.9 during the decade 1990 to 2000.

All of us know this from our daily experience. The fact is there. How to change it is the question. The neo-liberal policies will only increase the gap.

Doordarshan, Mohan Bhagawat, RSS

The live broadcast of the RSS Supremo, Mohan Bhagavat’s speech in Doordarshan is completely wrong. The government broadcaster should not be misused. The Modi Government is trying to use the state institutions to propagate the divisive ideology. This is unacceptable.

The people of Assam, especially those near River Brahmaputra, are worst affected by floods every year. This year also the floods have seriously affected the people. 44 lives are already lost in the floods. More than 4 lakh people are directly affected with great loss to their houses and belongings.
