Railway Accidents – The Central Government should act for safety of passengers.

Railway Accidents

More Railway accidents. This time it is in M.P. and hundreds of people have either lost their lives or are in critical condition due to the twin accidents. Train accidents are becoming a normal feature.

The reasons are not unknown to the Railways or the government. The number of trains are being increased, but the rail tracts are not increased or replaced. Maintenance is very poor due to staff shortage and lack of equipment.  Required modernisation and safety measures are not implemented. The result – continued accidents, almost every week.

Paying some cash compensation to the families of the victims is not the solution. Though certainly it is required, the main target should be that no such accidents takes place in future.

It can not be ruled out that there is some high level conspiracy to disgrace and humiliate the railways and the rail workers before the public by these accidents and prepare the ground for  privatisation of this biggest services in the country.

Train charges have increased substantially and the Railways are not in short of funds. Even otherwise, the government has to find funds for the improvement of railway services, so that such loss of lives are averted.

Land (Amendment) Bill

In a major development, the NDA Government has stepped down from its arrogant position of passing the Land(Amendment) Bill moved by it in the Parliament  which was strongly opposed by Congress, Left and other opposition parties.. The government issued ordinance three times unable to get it passed in the parliament.

Now in the Joint Parliament Committee examining the bill, the ruling members have agreed to remove many of the clauses in the bill, which has been opposed by the opposition parties.

It is reported that in this scenario, the Land (Amendment) Bill may get passed. This development is a big embarrassment for the government and a victory for the opposition.

BJP Government, Parliament Disruption, Sitaram Yechury

New Delhi, Aug 1 : Ahead of an all-party meet convened by the government to break the Parliament logjam, CPI(M) today blamed the BJP-led government for disrupting the House, accusing it of trying to escape from accountability behind the veil of conducting a ‘debate for debate’s sake’.

The CPI (M) stuck to its demand for the resignation of Union Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh Chief Ministers, saying this was necessary for an impartial investigation into the charges against them.

“The opposition correctly maintains that a parliamentary discussion cannot be a substitute for an investigation. These are serious charges that need to be investigated at the highest level.

“Till such an investigation continues, as is the norm for any government servant, the accused demits office in order to ensure strict impartiality. It is precisely this that is being asked of this BJP government,” party General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said. (PTI)

Another Olympics in Beijing – It is 2022 Winter Olympics

Beijing, Winter Olympics

The International Olympic Committee in its meeting held at Kuala Lumpur has awarded the 2022 Winter Olympics to Beijing. It is for the first time that both the Summer and Winter Olympics have been awarded to be held at the same place. The Summer Olympics was hosted by Beijing, the Chinese Capital, in 2008.

The Communist China is not only improving its financial and business status in the world, but  its organisational status also.  Just compare with the inept conduct of the Common Wealth Games in Delhi and the huge corruption connected with it.

BJP Govt. approves 49% FPI in Multi-brand Retail

BJP Government, FDI in multi-retail

In a complete U-turn from its earlier position, the BJP Government has decided to approve up to 49% FDI in multi-brand retail, which it has strongly opposed while it was in opposition. This will be routed through Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI). The MNCs and Corporates have got such influence on the BJP Government, so that  within one year, the BJP was compelled to completely change its line of opposing the FDI in multi-brand retail and surrendered to the dictates of the powerful lobbies. This decision will result in the MNC giants like Walmart, Carrefour etc. to capture the Indian retail market, thus destroying lakhs and crores of small shop-keepers.

Delhi government, witness protection

The Kejrival APP Government of Delhi has notified a scheme intended to protect the witnesses. Called “Witness Protection Scheme”, it makes provisions for safeguarding the lives and security to the witnesses, who give evidences and who are targeted by those against whom the evidences are given.

It is to be noted that in the past, many witnesses have been killed by the accused. In the Vyapam Scam alone many people have been killed mysteriously.

The decision of the AAP government is  appreciated.

foreign countries, imprisonment

According to a reply given in the Parliament by Minister V.K.Singh, there are thousands of Indians languishing in foreign jails. The maximum is in the gulf countries with 4,615 in Saudi Arabia and 6,653 in UAE. In United Kingdom there are 1,467 and Singapore 450. The data covers for the period 2012 to 2015.

The  charge in most of the cases seems to be the violation national frontier rules of these countries, which mean that the Indians  have been imprisoned for trespassed entry with out valid documents.

‘It is the government which is not allowing the Parliament to function’ – Sitaram Yechuri

CPI(M), Parliament.

Rejecting allegations that opposition was not allowing Parliament to function, CPI(M) today said it was the government that was doing so and reminded BJP of the yardstick it used during 2G scam.

“If there is anyone which is not allowing Parliament to function, it is this government…BJP had the same position during the 2G scam when the entire winter session 2010 was washed out on similar demand … we are asking why the BJP is not using the same yardstick when they are in power,” CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury told newspersons here.

On the government’s insistence that all matters can be debated in the House, he said debate cannot substitute investigation as it cannot hold anyone guilty.

“We demand that the minister and chief ministers against whom allegations have been made resign as per the law of the land under which all government officials demit office and a high level inquiry held to decide who is guilty and who is not but the government is not ready to accept it,” he said.
