AIBDPA calls upon pensioners to participate in the Protest Day Demonstrations on 8th January 2018

The BSNL workers are compelled to continue agitation in the start of the new year itself due to the negative and anti-worker attitude of the Department of Telecommunications, Government and the BSNL Management on the issue of wage revision of the employees, as also against the formation of a separate Tower Company by bifurcating the BSNL Towers. The government has already appointed an IAS officer as the CMD of the newly to be formed company. So far there is no IAS officer in BSNL, according to our information. This means that Tower company will not be under BSNL, but a separate company and once formed, even BSNL will have to pay rent for the use of towers. This has happened earlier in the case of underwater international cables. Further, the government may be thinking that with  less staff in the new company, it can be  privatised without delay, ignoring the opposition from the staff.

The double-talk of government  is well known. On the one side issue statements and replies in the Parliament about the government’s intention of improving and assisting BSNL, but on the contrary making all  steps to either privatise or close it.

It is against all these attacks that the ‘All Unions and Associations in BSNL’ has called for a Protest day on 8th January 2018 by organising lunch hour  demonstrations. AIBDPA, the mighty organisation of the DOT  BSNL Pensioners, has called upon its members to fully participate in the demonstrations along with the workers.

Fully participate demanding wage revision and for dropping the move to form Tower Company. Send reports and photos to AIBDPA HQ,

Why KSRTC is in loss? Why can’t it come up again?

06 Saturday Jan 2018

Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is one of the biggest PSUs of the Government of Kerala. It is running thousands of buses through out Kerala as also to nearby states like Karnataka and T.Nadu. It has got thousands of committed workers, who want to serve the people. It has got strong unions of workers. The LDF government is giving all assistance to KSRTC. It has got multi-floor buildings in many important cities in the state which can be given for rent. Kerala people like PSU and will support any action for improvement of the same.

Then why is it running on loss? The Management as well as the workers and the government have to sit together and find out why it is in loss? Where is the hitch which make the PSU loss making? An action plan for improving and making KSRTC profitable or at least no-profit , no-loss basis should be achieved.

Kerala LDF government has made many impossible things in to possible. Why not in the case of KSRTC?

WFTU denounce Israel for the persecution of a 16 year girl.

WFTU Statement dated 02-01-2018

“We Denounce Israel For The Persecution Of A 16year Old Palestinian Girl
The Youth Secretariat of PAME denounces the murderer-state of Israel, which, once again
revealed its barbarous face by arresting and imprisoning young children simply because they
are defending their homes.
The arrest and charging with12 accusations against 16-year-old Palestinian Ahed Tammini,
from an Israeli military court, is one more proof for all those who, together with the USA and
Israel, talk about “Democracy and Freedom,” and imposing their “right” with military courts,
imprisonment and murder of young children. It is a proof against the SYRIZA-ANEL
government, which speaks of Peace and stability in the region, and builds relations with
murderer states like Israel, which imprisons and murders young children, while the SYRIZAANEL
Government continues to refrain from recognizing the Palestinian state.
The imprisonment of 16-year-old Palestinian is an attack against any young person struggling
for his right to education, to work. It is an attack on the right of every young person to live in his
country without imperialist interventions and wars.
The struggle of the Palestinian people for their children to live freely, in their own state with
East Jerusalem as capital, is also a struggle for the young workers of Greece.
We express our solidarity with the Palestinian youth struggling against Israeli occupation and
demand the immediate release of the 16-year-old and her family. We are strengthening our
Solidarity with the Palestinian people”

Red Salute to Shahid Safdar Hashmi!

Safdar Hashmi – Martyr for freedom of speech and expression

Safdar Hashmi was murdered on 2nd January 1989 while performing a street drama in Sahibabad, Delhi. We pay our homage to the martyr and give below a short write up on him by Sahmat, the institution formed in his memory.

Sahmat Hashmi  (12 April 1954 – 2 January 1989)

Born on April 12, 1954 in Delhi, Safdar did an M.A. in English Literature from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, in 1975. During his years at University he became a member of the Students Federation of India and then joined the Indian People’s Theatre Association. He was one of the founder members of the Jana Natya Manch (JANAM) in 1973. In 1976 he became a member of the CPI(M).

After brief stints of teaching at Zakir Husain College, Delhi, and the Universities at Srinagar, Garhwal and Srinagar Kashmir, he worked for a period as Press Information Officer at the West Bengal Information Centre at New Delhi.
In December 1983 he became a full-time theatre activist and party worker.

JANAM had by this time acquired national prominence in the cultural sphere with plays such as Machine, Aurat, Gaon Se Shahar Tak, Raja Ka Baja and Hatyare.
Safdar wrote the songs for these plays and contributed greatly to the scripts which dealt with issues concerning the exploited sections of society. Largely due to Safdar’s efforts, JANAM has played a major role in the creation of an all-India street theatre movement.

Safdar’s creativity was not confined to JANAM. He has written poems and plays and done sketches and masks for children, designed hundreds of posters, written scripts and directed short films for television, and written on culture and theatre for national newspapers and the SFI journal Student Struggle. He was one of the main organisers of the Committee for Communal Harmony and its activities to counter the rise of communal, fundamentalist and divisive forces.

He organised a number of seminars and workshops on theatre and culture. Safdar was developing the idea of nation-wide democratic cultural movement and envisaged the organisation of a ‘Janotsav’ to generate forms appropriate to the experiences and struggles of the Indian people.

In recognition of his contribution to the street theatre movement and to the growth of a democratic culture, the Calcutta University conferred on Safdar Hashmi the degree of D.Litt. posthumously.

Twenty four years ago, on 1 January 1989, Safdar Hashmi was fatally attacked in broad daylight while performing a street play in Sahibabad, a working class area just outside Delhi. Political activist, actor, playwright and poet, Safdar had been deeply committed, like so many young men and women of his generation, to the anti-imperialist, secular and egalitarian values that were woven into the rich fabric of the nation’s liberation struggle. Disturbed by the betrayal of its goals by the post- independence ruling elite, Safdar too had moved closer to the Left, eventually joining the CPI(M), yo pursue his goal of being part of a social order worthy of a free people.

Safdar’s political commitment and artistic creativity, coupled with a keen sense of fun and irrepressible friendliness and warmth, made him extremely popular not only among those he had worked with but even those who had met him only briefly. With his death the CPI(M), the Jana Natya Manch, the cultural movement and the democratic and secular forces of the country have lost a beloved friend, a talented artist and a committed political activist.

Pension Revision should be extended all Public Sector Pensioners.

02 Tuesday Jan 2018

Posted by VAN NAMBOODIRI in Uncategorized

Pensioners of many PSUs are not getting pension revision, when the workers get wage revision. All of them should be made eligible for pension revision. In fact, even if there is delay or any other problem with wage revision, there should not be any delay in pension revision. It is because, pension is based on the service already performed. It should not depend upon the present financial position of the PSU.

It is the duty of the management not only to ensure pension revision, but in time also. Pensioners can not wait (for obvious reasons).

BSNL Management should act immediately for payment of wages to its contract workers

02 Tuesday Jan 2018

As already pointed out earlier, BSNL contract labour in many circles are not paid their wages for months. This is intolerable. The families of the low paid workers are starving. We demand the BSNL management to immediately allot sufficient funds to the circles so that the wages can be paid.

The CEC meeting of the BSNLCCWF to be held at Raipur on 13-14 January 2018 will discuss the matter and plan programme of action if the payments are not made by the time.

BSNLEU strongly condemns the appointment of the CMD, for the much opposed Subsidiary Tower Company.

02 Tuesday Jan 2018

Government has appointed a CMD for the proposed Subsidiary Tower Company, which has been strongly opposed by the BSNL workers, who have gone on a two days strike recently as per the call of the All Unions and Association opposing its formation. Modi Government does not care for the workers or their interests. In this connection, the post in the website of BSNLEU is given below:

“BSNLEU strongly condemns the appointment of the CMD, for the much opposed Subsidiary Tower Company.
It is learnt that Shri Amit Yadav IAS, who is currently serving as the Joint Secretary (Admn.), DoT, is appointed as the CMD of the much opposed Subsidiary Tower Company. The entire Non-Executives and Executives of BSNL went on a two day strike on 12th and 13th December,2017, stiffly opposing the formation of Subsidiary Tower Company. Inspite of this, the Modi government has taken this step. The government did not even bother to call the unions and associations for talks. We have to understand that the government is hell-bent to kill BSNL. BSNLEU strongly condemns this move of the government. The meeting of All Unions and Associations of BSNL, taking place on 08-01-2018, will take an appropriate decision on this matter. (courtesy: BSNLEU website)”

2018 will be a Year of Struggle for the Pensioners and the senior citizens

01 Monday Jan 2018

2018 is born out of the womb of 2017, which heralded umpteen struggles of the working men all over the country.

And 2018 is going to be the Year of Struggles by the senior citizens, retirees and the pensioners. While the aged, the senior citizens and the pensioners are to be provided with social security and all help to pass over their advance age period, the central government is taking away their rights. Statutory pension is being replaced by contributory pension for government employees, the eligibility for EPF is proposed to be withdrawn for those workers if the strength is below 300 in the company, health insurance and medical facilities are being restricted and the safety of aged from thieves and their own families are being compromised. The state of aged widows are pitiable.

Yes, this unhappy situation can not be allowed to continue. Struggle is the only way to ensure our rights as senior citizens. Special consideration should be ensured for journey, health, treatment, recreation, safety etc. Let the new year be a year of struggle and unity.
