“NEW DELHI: In a landmark judgment on Wednesday, the Supreme Court said thatArunachal Pradesh governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa’s decision advancing session of the state assembly by a month is violative of the Constitution and is liable to be quashed.
The court also directed the status quo ante in Arunachal Pradesh as it prevailed on December 15, 2015.

The Supreme Court said all steps and decisions taken by the legislative assembly pursuant to governor’s December 9, 2015 order are unsustainable and liable to be quashed.

The court’s ruling has paved the way for restoration of the Congress government in the state.” ( Extract from report of Times of India)

Com.V.A.N.Namboodiri, President, BSNLCCWF, today, 12-07-2016, met Shri Anupam Shrivastava, CMD, BSNL and pointed out the brutal exploitation of the contract workers in UP (East) and UP(West). Neither the minimum wages are paid nor EPF and ESI are implemented. Only a pittance is being paid. Sustained efforts on the part of the circle union has not borne any fruit. CMD assured that suitable steps will be taken in the matter.

“Tony Blair led Britain to an illegal war in Iraq” – Inquiry Committee Report

Britain, illegal, Iraq war

It is once again established that the war against Saddam Hussein in Iraq was fully unjustified. The Inquiry Committee appointed by the British Government has indicted Tony Blair, then British Prime Minister, for the same. The PTI report in this connection is given below:

“London, Jul 6 : Tony Blair led Britain into an ill- planned, badly executed and illegal war to oust Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein based on “flawed intelligence”, an inquiry into the US-led 2003 invasion today said in a damning indictment of the former prime minister’s decision to go to war.

“We have concluded that the UK chose to join the invasion of Iraq before the peaceful options for disarmament had been exhausted. Military action at that time was not a last resort,” John Chilcot, the chairman of the official inquiry into the war set up in 2009.

The UK did not exhaust all peaceful options before joining the invasion of Iraq, the former senior civil servant said.

He also said judgments about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction “were presented with a certainty that was not justified” and post-war planning was “wholly inadequate”.

His 12-volume, 2.6-million-word report on the Iraq war comes over seven years after the inquiry was ordered by then prime minister Gordon Brown in 2009.”

56th Anniversary of the 1960 Strike of Central Government Employees

11th July 1960, 1960 strike, CG employees

July 11th, 2016 is the 56th anniversary of the Historic Five Days Strike of the Central Government employees.

The strike was against the retrograde recommendations of the II Central Pay Commission, which did not recommend  minimum wage as per the 15th Indian Labour Conference approved formula as also no automatic DA as demanded by the unions was accepted. The increase in the wage was minimal.

Under the Joint Council of Action of the Central Government employees Federations  (AIRF, AIDEF, Confederation and NFPTE), the biggest Indefinite strike in independent India started on the night of 11/12th July 1960. The government refused to negotiate despite the continued efforts of the JCA as also many Members of Parliament including Firoze Gandhi ( Husband of Indira Gandhi). The government was adamant. Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru called the strike as ‘Civil Rebellion’ and utilised the entire government machinery to crush it. Essential Service Maintenance Ordinance (ESMO) was promulgated and thousands of workers were arrested, convicted, dismissed, suspended, terminated and charge sheeted. All India leaders were arrested and put in Tihar Jail. Never before India has seen such brutal attack on any strike in the country.

It is to the credit of the workers and their loyalty to their organisation that the strike continued for five days. The entire train running system, the postal and telecom services were all badly affected. Unable to continue against the brutal attack of the government machinery and victimisation, the strike was called of on the fifth day.

5 Railways workers in Dohad were killed by police firing. 2 comrades in Kerala (one from postal and one from telephones) committed suicide unable to face the termination from service. Many were punished with rigorous imprisonment. Public, trade union leaders and outsiders were arrested for supporting the strike. Recognition of the striking federations/unions were withdrawn.

The workers faced these attacks with full confidence in their organisation and leaders. They knew there is no other way to defend their rights and justified demands. They saw the most cruel face of the so called ‘democratic government’.

PTTI and many international and foreign trade unions supported the strike and demanded the government to vacate victimisation.   In the Parliament, Nehru government was put on the dock by eminent Members of Parliament like A.K.Gopalan, S.M.Banerjee, Nath Pai and many others, who demanded vacation of all victimisation.

It took more than three years for the vacation of victimisation and re-recognition of the unions and federations. But the scars remained for a long time.

Though crushed, the 1960 strike was not in vain. For that matter, no struggle is in vain. The government was compelled to act against the price rise, appoint two committees one after another on the issue of DA and has to start discussion with the unions on the constitution of negotiating machinery, which later became the Joint Consultative Machinery(JCM).

As a participant of the historic strike, I have my own experience, which I may narrate some time  later.

The 1960 strike has many lessons for the working class. The determination, dedication and sacrifice of the leaders and workers who were part  of the great struggle will ever be remembered.

The Central Govt. employees are once again on the struggle path. The indefinite strike called for from 11th July 2016 against the retrograde recommendations of the VII CPC is deferred at present on the assurance of the government. The workers are waiting for the government decisions. Any failure on the part of the government will result in another great strike.

Canadian Posr, defined pension, strike

The Postal Workers of Canada are in arms against the proposal of the Canada Post to change the defined pension scheme to for an inferior defined pension scheme. Refusing to discuss with the Union, the Canada Post is taking a high handed decision.

The Communist Party of Canada today called on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to intervene with Canada Post CEO Deepak Chopra to restart negotiations.

The workers are preparing for a serious struggle against the attack on pension.

Our whole-hearted support to the Canadian Postal workers for their valiant struggle!

72 out of 78 central ministers are crorepatis. That is 92%. M.J.Akbar is at the top with Rs. 44.90 crores, followed by P.P.Choudhary from Rajasthan with Rs. 35.35 crore and Vijay Goel also from Rajasthan with 29.97 crore.

Of course, this is a government for the corporates by the corporates.

The govt. move to invest more EPF funds to market fails.

CTUs, EPF, Minister

The move of the government to increase the flow of more EPF amount to the market or ETF( Exchange Traded Funds) failed due to strong opposition from the Central trade Unions. The meeting of the Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya with unions could not come to any conclusion. However, it seems that the government is not back-tracking. The Minister announced after the meeting that he will take a decision within a few days on the issue and the unions’ views will be taken as a feed back.

The entire stakeholders in the EPF should protest this anti-worker move so as to safeguard the hard earned money of the workers.

According to the budget proposals announced in the Kerala State Assembly, all the welfare pensions in the state will be increased to Rs.1,000. All the people who are above 60 years and who do not have other pensions are being paid this welfare pension.

The LDF government in Kerala deserves full appreciation for this decision. We fully support this decision.

Red Salute to Com. K.G.Bose!

KG Bose

7th July 2019 is the 98th birth anniversary of the great revolutionary leader Com.K.G.Bose. He was born in 1921 and passed away at the comparatively  young age of 54, on 11-12-1974.

Com.K.G. Bose is the inspiration of thousands and thousands of Central employees and in particular that of P and T employees. He fought with the government for the rights of the workers and also fought against the revisionism in the organisation. His life and work is a saga of struggle, sacrifice and achievement.

I fondly remember the many times when I got the opportunity to be with him in the Conferences, in tours and in discussions. He was simple and friendly to all.

On his birth anniversary, I pay respectful homage! Red Salute  to Com.K.G.Bose!
