AIC, BSNLEU, Kolkata

The VII AIC of BSNL Employees Union, the biggest union in BSNL, is going to be held at Kolkata from 6th to 9th November 2014.This is the first time that an AIC of BSNLEU is being held at Kolkata. The earlier conferences were held at Visakhapatnam (March 2001 ) Lucknow (June 2003 ), Guwahati (January 2006), Mumbai (February 2008), Thiruvananthapuram (May 2010), and Ludhiana (September 2012). The AICs were held regularly in time and the present AIC is in November 2014. It will be difficult to find many other unions which hold their Conference in such a regular way.

The systematic way in which the AICs of BSNLEU is held is well known. The number of delegates and observers are calculated on the basis of the quota paid and intimated earlier so that they can be allotted accordingly.

In the delegates session, the issues are discussed seriously, at the same time in a free and frank way. Maximum time is allotted to delegates, within the limited time available. This time also Open Session, Women Session, Seminar, Procession, Cutural programme etc. are being organised.

This Conference has a special importance. It is being held in our own building and premises. It is being held at the heritage telecom Factory, Alipore, Kolkata, which was manufacturing almost all items for telephone services for a very long period. The buildings and premises will remind you about the British rule and their heritage in the country.

With only one more piece of information I will conclude. The holding of the AIC at this time in Kolkata, or for that matter in W.Bengal, is challenging. The anti-people policies of the Mamata government and the brutal attack on the democratic and left movements is well known. No government or PSU buildings are allotted for holding the conference or accommodation. The Reception Committee has to find out alternate accommodation etc.

Yes, the reception Committee and the CHQ has taken up this challenge in its right spirit and are making all efforts to make the conference a very big success.

Let us march towards AIC ! VII Kolkata AIC Zindabad !

INA, Azad Hind Government

21 October, Azad Hind Govt., INA

21 October 1943 is a historical day. It was on 21st October 1943 that the Azad Hind Government was formed in exile in Singapore by Subhas Chandra Bose to fight against British for the freedom of India.
INA was formed earlier with the Indian Prisoners of War(POW) captured by the Japanese in 1941 itself. But it was only after Subhas Chandra Bose came from Berlin in a submarine incognito and started mobilising the Indians living in Burma, Singapore etc. The presence of Subhas Bose and his fiery speeches inspired thousands of people to join the Indian National Army. Though the full number of the INA is not known as the records were destroyed before the British recaptured, it is stated that at the time of dismantlement of INA, it was having about 40,000 – 45,000 personnel.

Though the effort to capture British India did not succeed, the arrest and trial of the INA leaders succeeded in large mobilisation of the people to protest against it in a very big way. At last the government was compelled to free all.

INA and Azad Hind are part of the great Independence Struggle.

Deloittee, Maharashtra, Protest

As soon as the letter of the BSNL C.O. received regarding the implementation of Deloittee Committee recommendations with regard to the SSA concept (reducing the present SSAs by merger), Forum Convener wrote to the CMD that this is on violation of the assurance given to the Forum by the CMD and the implementation should not be done.

On 20th October all the Circle secretaries of Maharashtra Circle under the initiative of Com. Nalwade, CS, BSNLEU,jointly met the CGM and expressed their strong protest. The CGM stated that in view of the strong protest of the employees, he will refer the matter to c.O. and will not implement the recommendations.

Congratulations to the Circle secretaries of Maharashtra.

CPI(M), Maharashtra

The assembly elections in Maharashtra have evoked national interest. The major news in the last two days have been related to the result of the elections and how BJP will form the government etc. The seats won by the BJP, Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP are well published and known. But what about CPI(M)? No news at all.

But interestingly one CPI(M) candidate has also won. He is Com. J.P.Gavit from the Kanwan Assembly(ST) seat. This is in Nashik District. CPI(M) is winning the seat for the 7th time.

Our Congratulations to Com. Gavit and CPI(M) for the victory.

CPI(M) celebrates 50th Anniversary of its formation

50 years, CPI(M)

CPI(M) completes 50 years of its proud heritage in 2014. As interested comrades are fully aware, the CPI(M) was formed in the Party Congress held at Calcutta from 31st October to 7th November 1964.
The formation of the CPI(M) was the culmination of the internal struggle within the then CPI on various ideological issues as well as on the strategy to be pursued for the Indian revolution based on Marxism-Leninism.

The fifty years of its existence, struggle for the correct policies and the sacrifices it had to face has made it dear to the working class and the toiling masses. But there has been serious setback in the elections both in W.Bengal and Kerala, its strong holds. But it is temporary and has to be overcome.

The first nine PBMs were: Coms. P.Sundarayya, EMS Namboodiripad, BT Ranadive, Jyoti Basu, Harkishan Singh Surjeet, AK Gopalan, P.Ramamoorthy, Promod Das Gupta and Basava Punniah. None of them are alive now.

The struggle for a socialist society is not easy. Commitment, dedication and determination is a must for the forward March.

CPI(M) Statement of Gas/ Diesel Price

Diesel price, gas, Protest

October 20, 2014

Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Against Deregulation of Diesel Prices

The CPI(M) condemns the deregulation of diesel pricing. This is nothing but an abdication of the responsibility of the government to control and regulate the prices of a crucial item of fuel which has a direct impact on the prices of all essential commodities.

The deregulation has been announced along with a reduction in the retail price of diesel following a sharp decline in the price of crude oil in the international market. However, it is absolutely wrong to link the deregulation to the reduced diesel price. Given the volatility of crude oil prices in the international market, the rise in prices of crude oil is much more than the occasional drop. After deregulation when the international prices rise, there will be a consequent increase in the prices of diesel in India.

The Modi government has completed the dismantling of the administered pricing mechanism for petroleum products and introduced the import parity pricing in line with the prices of finished products in the international market. This will only help the oil companies including the private ones.

The CPI(M) demands that the government restore the administered pricing mechanism and a cost plus pricing method which will lower the domestic price of petrol and diesel.

Gas Pricing

The Modi government has not followed the UPA government in accepting the Rangarajan Committee faulty prescription for doubling of the gas prices. It has increased the price of gas to $ 5.61 from the existing $ 4.2. However, it is reported that there is a provision for premium for gas explored from deep-sea fields and for revision of prices every six months. This raises the question whether more increases in gas prices are in the offing.

The CPI(M) reiterates that the pricing system should not be based on the average of prices ruling in international hubs without any reference to the domestic cost of production of gas. Under this, any increase in gas pricing means a windfall gain to gas producers and increasing burden on the people.

Delivery of Subsidised LPG

The announcement of cash transfer scheme through banks for delivery of subsidy for LPG cylinders will lead to the exclusion of a substantial section of the people entitled for the benefit of the LPG subsidy. A large number of ordinary people still do not have access to banking services despite the much touted “jan dhan yojana”.

An RTI has revealed that the Congress has been granted Income Tax relief for Rs. 743.75 crore in 2012-14. For the same period BJP was granted Rs. 338.95 crore tax relief.

The ruling political parties in India are amassing wealth in a grand way. These are the accounted money. What about the unaccounted money being collected during elections and other times? What about the black money ?

The people have a right to know.

First Family or Family First ? – The Collapse of Congress

20 Monday Oct 2014

collapse, Congress

The First family has failed again. In Maharashtra and Haryana, where elections have been held, the Congress, which was the ruling party has been relegated to a poor third!

Years of anti-poor policies, favouring the corporates, Himalayan Corruptions, belief in the infallibility of first family, poor governance and what not ? The party which led the struggle for freedom and which ruled the country for about six decades has almost lost relevance in the larger politics of India. The First Family always considered the Family and its cahoots forst and not the country and its progress.

A deserving punishment indeed!
