CPI(M) completes 50 years of its proud heritage in 2014. As interested comrades are fully aware, the CPI(M) was formed in the Party Congress held at Calcutta from 31st October to 7th November 1964.
The formation of the CPI(M) was the culmination of the internal struggle within the then CPI on various ideological issues as well as on the strategy to be pursued for the Indian revolution based on Marxism-Leninism.

The fifty years of its existence, struggle for the correct policies and the sacrifices it had to face has made it dear to the working class and the toiling masses. But there has been serious setback in the elections both in W.Bengal and Kerala, its strong holds. But it is temporary and has to be overcome.

The first nine PBMs were: Coms. P.Sundarayya, EMS Namboodiripad, BT Ranadive, Jyoti Basu, Harkishan Singh Surjeet, AK Gopalan, P.Ramamoorthy, Promod Das Gupta and Basava Punniah. None of them are alive now.

The struggle for a socialist society is not easy. Commitment, dedication and determination is a must for the forward March.
