Government of France has handed over to the Government of India a list of 700 people who have deposited money in the HSBC Bank in Geneva. This is the first time that a list of such large number of depositors in foreign countries have been known. It is reported that many powerful politicians and corporates are in the list. But the Government has not released the names. It is only reported in the press that tax evasion issue will be enquired.
In the case of the 17 people whos have deposited in the LGT Bank, the government has so far not released the list.
It is somewhat clear from the reports that the government do not want to release the names since many are political bigwigs or people supporting them.
It is the duty of the government to release the list and take legal action against them for cheating the government and the nation.
