The Joint Action Committee has been insisting on the management for the last few years to ensure that all the rented buildings taken by BSNL be vacated and accommodated in the BSNL buildings only. The reply given by the management was that there are very few rented accommodations and that also will be vacated soon. The wrong information given by the management is exposed now. According to a reply given in the Parlaiment by Murali Deora, State Minister for Communications and IT, the rent paid by BSNL for rented accommodation for the last four years is Rs. 1023.9 crore! It means an amount of Rs. 256 crore annually. This is not a small amount.
After the new CMD has joined, once again we took up the matter. Now orders have been issued to vacate these rented buildings at the earliest. Despite these instructions many officers at the local level are trying to continue the rented buildings due to their vested interests.
The Circle/District Secretaries should identify the rented buildings and compel the management to vacate the same at the earliest. In almost all places BSNL has now got suficient spaces for accommodation and there is no need for rented accommodation.
BSNL paid Rs. 1023.9 crore as rent for the last 4 years!
