At last the government has finally decided to hold the auction for 2G and 3G spectrum in February 2015. It has also agreed to hold the auction together as demanded by the private companies, instead of its own decision to hold the auction separately, which would have got more funds to the government.

As per the Cabinet decision, spectrum in 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 1800 MHz will be put to action. The reserve price for the same are fixed at Rs. 3,646 crore, Rs. 3,980 crore and Rs. 2,191 crore respectively. According to the reports, the government is expected to get between Rs. 64,000 crore and Rs. 80,000 crore.

The payment may be in installment and the government is expected to get at least Rs. 16,000 crore in this financial year.

100% FDI in Construction Sector; One more Century by NDA Government

The NDA government is hitting century after century! Days back it allowed 100% FDI in Railways. Telcom Sector also 100% is ordered. Now 100% FDI is sanctioned for Construction sector.

But these centuries have a difference. It is the preparation for handing of the vital assets of the country to Foreign Finance. Defeat this sinister game of the BJP dominated NDA rule. We want the assets of India to Indians and not to MNCs and International Finance.

It is reported that the Central Government has finalised a Communications Bill, which will repeal the existing four acts, viz. Indian Telegraph Act 1885, Telecom Regulatory Act 1997, TV Act 1995 and IT Act 2000. A Regulator for all the three sector will also be appointed as per the bill. The new bill is being introduced since the space between all the three sectors are shrinking and it becomes difficult to have separate rules. The new regulator will be addressing the issues of all the three sectors including the spectrum management, which has become a very important concern of the government due its high revenue and stiff competition. The DOT has started the process for collection of fines from the private telecom companies which continued to use 2G even after the supreme Court Order date 2, February 2012. It is based on the order of the SC to collect fee from the companies for the use after the court order. Altogether DOT is expected to get Rs. 2,451 crores.

Of course, the private companies may go to the court, or better will influence the government to get the charges cancelled in the name of giving the ‘right signals’ to the industry.

SBI to recruit 7200 employees

It is stated by the SBI Chairman that about 7200 employees will be recruited this financial year, considering the fact that about 8,100 employees are due to retire. Good news!

What about BSNL? About 10,000 to 15,000 are retiring every year. But almost no recruitment at all!

New Recruits are a must. Even in all private companies, whether telecom or banks, they have started recruitment in right earnest. But BSNL is still sleeping. It seems that the BSNL management is not worried about the efficiency and better service.

NEW DELHI: Consumers will soon be able to retain their cellphone numbers when they relocate to any part of the country, even if they change operators, after the government came one step closer to clearing the ‘one nation, one number’ plan aimed at simplifying mobile telephony for all.

Telecom Commission, the highest decision-making body in the telecom department, on Friday gave in-principle approval to full mobile number portability (MNP), or the facility to allow a mobile user to keep the same mobile number and weed out the hassle of buying another mobile connection on moving to another service area. It is reported that the telecom department has asked Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd to take over the management and maintenance of the long-awaited government network for confidential intra-departmental communications, after the Centre for Development of Telematics failed to execute the project on time.

This will give some relief to the MTNL to tide over its financial crisis.

National Commission imposes penalty for Pesky calls.

penalty, Pesky Calls, Telecom

The National Commission has upheld the decision of the State Commission imposing penalty for pesky calls on the customers.

The National Commission upheld the State Commission’s order imposing a penalty of Rs 25 lakh each on Airtel and COAI. Similarly, penalty of Rs 12.5 lakh each on ICICI Bank and American Express Bank was also upheld. This penalty would go to the state consumer welfare fund.

This is a good decision. The customers are unnecessarily troubled and harassed by these unsolicited calls and messages.
