At last the government has finally decided to hold the auction for 2G and 3G spectrum in February 2015. It has also agreed to hold the auction together as demanded by the private companies, instead of its own decision to hold the auction separately, which would have got more funds to the government.

As per the Cabinet decision, spectrum in 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 1800 MHz will be put to action. The reserve price for the same are fixed at Rs. 3,646 crore, Rs. 3,980 crore and Rs. 2,191 crore respectively. According to the reports, the government is expected to get between Rs. 64,000 crore and Rs. 80,000 crore.

The payment may be in installment and the government is expected to get at least Rs. 16,000 crore in this financial year.

Spectrum Auction Plan for Cabinet Approval

29 Monday Dec 2014

The pressure put by the private telecom companies and MNCs that more spectrum should be available for auction is having results. The DoT has prepared a Cabinet Note on the auction of spectrum, which will be first sent to the Defence and Finance Ministries for approval before submitting to the Cabinet. The reports indicate that there will be 5MHz in the 2100 MHz band across 17 out of 22 telecom circles for auction.

It is understood that some more spectrum will be released by the Defence for allocation for auction as required by the private telcos. There was a demand from the Cellular Operations Association of India (COAI) that some spectrum should be released from BSNL, which the BSNL management has not so far agreed. But pressure will be mounting.

The requirements of the private companies have become more important for the government, than that of its own!

Keep the Coal Mines with the PSU, Coal india

The NDA government’s move to reallocate and auction the coal mines consequent to the cancellation of the earlier licences, is nothing but moving towards denationalisation. The coal is a nationalised property and it should remain so. Instead of auctioning all the coal mines, these should be handed over to the Coal India Limited (CIL) for mining. Handing over the valuable mines to private companies should be stopped.

CITU and other trade unions have strongly protested against the wrong move of the government.

Tipu’s Ring auctioned for Rs. 1.42 crore in London

Ring_generic_thinkstock_360x270_1It is reported from London today that a ring of Tipu Sultan with an inscription ‘Ram’ has been auctioned for Rs. 1.42 crore. The name of the person who bid for the ring is unknown. The bid amount was ten times more than the auction amount. The inscription ‘Ram’ is written in Devanagari.

The ring was in the finger of Tipu Sultan when he was killed in the fight at srirangapatnam with the british in 1799. It was taken from his finger by Arthur Wellesley, the Commander of the British Regiment. Later it was in the custody of the his nephew Fitzroy Somerset and then his inheritors. It is now bid for Rs. 1.42 crores.

It is well known that innumerable treasures like this have been looted by the British army, officers and even British civilians from India. They captured many kingdoms and treasures were taken to Britain. In the museums in Britain, one can see thousands of such articles and valuables looted by the British. Much more will be in the residences of lords and noblemen who looted them from India.

The rulers of independent India should have demanded return of these valuable and article of historical importance. But they did nothing of that sort. Now that a new government is going to be formed, it is their responsibility to get all these back to its original country. Will they do it?

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Saturday announced reserve prices for CDMA (800 MHz band) spectrum, putting minimum cost of pan-India per MHz of radio waves at Rs.2,685 crore, almost 50 per cent jump for the last auction’s base price. Of 22 telecom circles, the top five service areas in terms of their reserve price are – Delhi Rs.450 crore per MHz, Mumbai Rs.352 crore, Maharashtra Rs.282 crore, Tamil Nadu Rs.247 crore and Gujarat Rs.212 crore.

The regulator has also recommended that the entire CDMA spectrum held by the telecom PSU MTNL in Delhi and Mumbai be put up for auction as it is underutilised, besides suggesting that spectrum held by BSNL should be taken back and put for auction, except for one block of frequency in Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and North-East service area. Mahatma Gandhi’s Charkha auctioned, other mementos also

06 Wednesday Nov 2013

auction, historical treeasures, Mahatma Gandhi's Charkha

India Government seems least concerned with the memory of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation. The latest news of auctioning of the Charkha and other mementos connected with the Mahatma in a London Auction house, fully confirms this.

The Charkha used by Mahatma Gandhi was sold for 110,000 pounds ( approximately Rs.95 crores). It was the Charkha modified by the Mahatma to fold and take along with him in the journeys during the 1940s.This was mainly used in Yerwada jail. It was one of the weapons of the Mahatma in self reliance for the country.

The Mullock’s Auction House also auctioned many other mementos belonging to Gandhiji, including the Last Will written by him at the Sabarmati Ashramam. This important historical document was sold for 20,000 pounds ( approximately Rs. 17 lakhs). 60 similar items connected with Gandhiji were auctioned yesterday.

There was not even a representative of the government of India. There are certain issues which come to the mind of every Indian, in this connection. No. 1, how these historical mementos of the Father of the Nation have reached the auction house? No.2, whether these have been looted or purchased by the auction house? No.3, whether the government was aware of the auction and if so, what it has done for getting it back to the country? No.4, Whether the government of India considers that these are part of the National Heritage and part of the Independence movement? No.5, Whether the government at lease now take any action to bring it to the country in honour of the Mahatma.

It seems that the government is least concerned on all these issues. Its Archeological Survey of India is interested in digging to find out gold as per the dream of a so called saint. The Government purchases helicopters with out any limit for its VVIPs, auctions spectrum etc. losing lakhs of crores of rupees for the country. But it don’d find time and money to bring back its own historical mementos. And why the government is not demanding the Government of Britain to return these and many other historical artefacts and treasures looted by them when India was being ruled by them.
The government has to answer these questions.
