Htin Kyaw, a very close associate of Aung San Suu Kyi, the top leader of the National League for Democracy, who won the election with huge majority, will be the new President of the country. This is the first time that a President without a military back ground has been elected. Suu Kyi is banned from becoming President by a Constitutional amendment made by the earlier military junta.
