The Forum of BSNL Unions has submitted a Memorandum to Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Communications Minister on the need for revival of BSNL and the role the government has to take in the matter including honouring the assurances given by the NDA government when BSNL was formed in 2000. The Memorandum is signed by the Unions/ Associations in BSNL. The Forum has also requested for a meeting to present the issues in person. The Forum of BSNL Unions and Associations which met today, 27 May, at Local Council Room, NTR Delhi discussed the memorandum to be submitted to the Communications Minister. All the unions/Associations are requested to be present tomorrow, 28 May, at 1100 hours at the same place (LC Room, Delhi NTR)to sign the memorandum.
After the Memorandum by the Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations has been submitted to the Finance Minister, Chairman of the Group of Ministers on Revival of BSNL and MTNL and other members of the Group, the Forum leaders have been meeting the Members of Parliament of various parties and requesting them to take up our case with the government and the Group of Ministers.
The Forum has already submitted to / met and discussed the Memorandum with Com. Sitaram Yechury, Basudeb Acharya, P.Karunakaran, Tapan Sen ( all CPI(M), Dr. Sanjeeva Reddy (Cong.), Gurudas Dasgupta (CPI), Sushama Swaraj, Arun Jaitely (BJP) and all Members of Parliament from Delhi State. Forum has asked the Circle/District leaders of the Forum to meet the MPs of their area, submit the memorandum to them and request them to take up the matter with thew GoM and also with the government.
The Press statement issued by the Convener has been published in some dailies. Peoples’ Democracy, Weekly Organ of the CPI(M), has published a good write-up on the Memorandum. Forum leaders at all levels are requested to give maximum publicity to the issues of BSNL and the demands raised in the Memorandum.
The Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations have submitted a detailed Memorandum to Sri P.Chidambaram, Finance Minister and Chairman of the Group of Ministers for the Revival of BSNL and MTNL. Copies have been furnished to all members of the Committee viz. S/Shri Montek singh Ahluwalia, Kapil Sibal, Anand Sharma, Manish Tiwari and Anand Sharma. Copy has been furnished to the Prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh also.
The Memorandum has briefed the reason for the present financial position of the BSNL, the requirement for assistance from the government for the loss making services in the lakhs of villages and remote areas, for refund of the spectrum charges, for an efficient procurement policy etc. etc. It has also opposed any move for disinvestment and VRS, which are against the interest of the company and the workers.

The meeting of the Forum of BSNL Unions and Associations held today, 7th May, at New Delhi has finalised the memorandum to be submitted to P.Chidambaram, Finance Minister and Chairman of the Group of Ministers appointed on the issue of Revival of BSNL and MTNL.The important issues to be included in the Memorandum were discussed in detail and finalised.
The Memorandum will be submitted to the GoM after getting the signatures of the General Secretaries who have been asked to meet at 1700 hours at the C.O.
