Mobile Towers on Government buildings

Tags

,

It is a case of the mighty influence of the private telecom companies. The government has now decided that mobile towers can be erected on the government buildings to ensure connectivity. There are many reports on the radiation of the mobile towers and in many places, agitations are going on. BSNL has put warning boards wherever it has  constructed mobile towers near its offices.

Connectivity is important and at the same time, the radiation issue is also to be tackled. What is the government plan is not known. It should be transparent.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), one of the big oil companies in the Public Sector, may be granted Maharatna Status in this year. It will be the eighth PSU to get the status. It will give more autonomy to the PSU. Congratulations to  BPCL and its workforce!

It is to be remembered that BSNL was assured of Maharatna at the time of its formation itself by then Communications Minister Ram Vilas Paswan. It was to be granted the status by 2006, when it was having Rs. 40,000 crore revenue and Rs. 10,000 crore profit. But the government,  by cancelling the 45 million tender for mobile lines ensured that BSNL goes down. The cancellation resulted in loss gradually and BSNL was deprived of the Maharatna status.

Undue Restrictions on franchise in Haryana

Haryana government is notorious in not implementing the labour laws. Now it is putting restrictions on the universal franchise and election  by putting conditions.

The government is asking for a minimum educational attainment, the proof of possessing pucca toilet, non-default of any bank loan and non-default from electricity dues. Those who could not provide these will have no right to stand as a candidate. It is clear that these are intended against the poor and underpriveleged.

This is against the constitution and the right to vote. This fully unjustified conditions should be immediately rescinded.

Women in India face discrimination – World Bank Report

It is international now. The World bank in its report has stated that Indian women face many restrictions and they are not safe and no laws to protect them. The government should be ashamed. The extract of the report in the news is given below:

“Washington, Sep 10 : Women in India face widespread restrictions for jobs and there are no laws to protect them against sexual harassment in public places, according to a new World Bank report on South Asia’s largest economy.

In a report released yesterday, the World bank said that in India job restrictions remain widespread, with women not allowed to work in mining or in jobs that require lifting weights above a certain threshold or working with glass.

The law also prohibits women from jobs “involving danger to life, health or morals”.

In addition, there are no laws to protect women against sexual harassment in public places, protections which exist in 18 other economies around the world, the bank said in the report ‘Women, Business and the Law 2016’.”

‘Sarkari Clearances Come faster than Usain Bolt’ – Economic Times

The above words are the main heading of the news today, 10-09-2015, in Economic Times. True, the Government is taking fast and immediate decisions connected with ‘ease of business’, disinvestment, concessions to corporates, waival of taxes to the high and influential and so on.

But this ‘Usain Bolt Fast’ is limited to the issues concerning the interests of the  high and powerful. When it comes to the issues of workers, pensioners and the under-privileged, there is no fastness. Government does not move at all.

78.2% IDA fixation for  BSNL pensioners are due from 2007 onward, but no decision is taken even after 2 All India strikes demanding the same.

The Modi Government is on the side of the corporates and against the common people and the workers. Even after 15 crore workers went on strike on 2nd September 2015, none of the 12 demands raised by the Central trade Unions has been settled. Instead, it tried to divide the unity in CTUs by compelling  BMS to withdraw from the strike.

The common people and the toiling masses are watching all these and will react at the appropriate time.

The large scale migration of refugees from the war ravaged Syria and nearby countries to European countries is one of the biggest migration in recent period. The people’s anger against the studied silence of certain countries like Germany to ward off the refugees has compelled these countries to accept the refugees. The visuals of the innocent drowned boy in the beach and such other photoes and videos have resulted in a wave of protest among citizens of these countries and the governments are compelled to change their stand. It is not a problem of one country or other, it is a problem of the humanity. The above photo shows the refugees getting down from an overcrowded boat.
