Minimum Wage for contract workers

What should be the Minimum Wage? The 11 Central Trade Unions have demanded the government that Rs. 18,000 should be the minimum wage for contract workers. It is based on the recommendations of the VII CPC which has calculated Rs. 18,000 as the lowest wage.
BSNL Contract workers also should get this minimum wage.

22nd March -15 th Foundation Anniversary of BSNLEU

BSNLEU, the pride of BSNL employees, will be completing 15 years of its fruitful existence on 22March 2016. Formed on 22 March 2001 at Visakhapatnam by merging 7 existing telecom unions in a National Convention attended by thousands of workers, BSNL Employees Union had lived up to the expectations of the workers. The struggles it has waged for the workers and the achievements are many. It has always taken a progressive line for the cause of the workers.
BSNLEU  CEC held at Ahmednagar last  month has decided to celebrate its 15th anmiversary in a big way. Ensure that the celebrations are effectively organised with massive participation.

BCPC Meets on 16-04-2016

A meeting of Bharat Central Pensioners Confederation (BCPC) will be held at New Delhi on 16-04-2016. Notice has been issued by the President Shri Maheswari. BCPC has been non-functional since the demise of Com.S.K.Vyas, Secretary General of BCPC last year. The meeting is being held to revive BSNL.

Private telcos cheat the government of due taxes by understating revenues

The story of the private telecom companies cheating the government of its due taxes continues. Latest is the report of the CAG that the private telcos including Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, RCom, Tata have all cheated the government of taxes of about 12,488.93 crore. This is done by understating the revenue of about Rs. 46,045.75 crore.

The government should act immediately and collect the due taxes.

Arrears of tax at Rs. 8.9 lakh crore in 2014-15!

The arrears of tax to be collected is increasing from year to year. Rs. 8.9 lakh crores is the tax arrears to be collected in 2014-15. It is to be noted that out of this, Rs. 7 lakh crore is direct taxes. The CAG has severely criticised for not collecting these.

it is understood that most of these arrears are from the big business and the corporates. Not only cheating the banks as in the case of Vijay Mallya, but also cheating the government. The government machinery is  partly responsible for this ugly situation.

EPF interest rate for 2015-16 may be increased to 8.9% from 8.8%

Press reports indicate that the EPFO is examining whether the interest rate for 2015-16 can be increased from the declared 8.8%. The Central trade Unions have been demanding that it should be increased to 9.5%. Now it is understood that EPFO is considering of increasing the same to 8.9%. Our demand is that since there is a surplus of more than Rs.1,100 crore is available, 9.5% should be granted.

Rs. 2,400 crores spent by PSUs on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

116 Public Sector enterprises have spent a total of Rs.2,440 crores towards Corporate Social Responsibility programme during 2014-15. This was announced by Anant Geete, Heavy Enterprises and Public Enterprises Minister, in Parliament yesterday, 10th March 2016. This is a good amount spent towards many social activities beneficial to the people. While private companies somehow escape themselves from utilising CSR, Public sector is in the forefront. We congratulate the PSUs for this good effort.

Siemens retrench 2,500 workers

Siemens, which is the German based engineering MNC, has stated that it will slash about 2,500 jobs, which means retrenchment of so much existing workers.

This is an indication of the worldwide reduction of work force. The MNCs in India have been retrenching the workers in a big way and struggles continue against the same.
