Com.V.A.N.Namboodiri, President, BSNLCCWF met Shri A.M.Gupta, GM (Restructuring), BSNL C.O. today,31-03-2016, and pointed out about the non-implementation of minimum wage and social security measures like EPF, ESI etc. in many circles. He stated that various circulars have been issued to the circles in this respect and he is monitoring the same. Com. Namboodiri once again stressed the need for early implementation of labour laws for the contract workers.

AIBDPA meets Secretary, DOT on 78.2%

Com.V.A.N.Namboodiri, Advisor, AIBDPA, today, 31st March 2016, met Shri J.S.Deepak, Secretary DOT on the issue of 78.2% IDA Pension fixation for the pre- June 2013 BSNL pensioners. Com.Namboodiri pointed out the undue delay in submitting the case to the cabinet for approval. Secretary DOT assured that the the Cabinet Note is on his table and there will be no further delay in forwarding the same. Com.Namboodiri also demanded that the 60:40 condition for payment of pension should not be there which is creating difficulties in pension revision. He stressed the need for automatic pension revision, since pension revision is part of pension. He brought to the notice of the DOT the extra efforts made by the unions/associations in BSNL for improving the services which is showing results and the need for financial support from the government.

It is expected from the discussion that the file may be submitted to the Minister/Cabinet with out further delay. This is the second time that AIBDPA is meeting the Secretary DOT in this month, in addition to meeting the Minister Communications Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad on 09-03-2016, in which the entire issue was brought to his notice in detail for early decision.

Extra-Ordinary oath in Bihar Assembly

It is a new kind of oath in Bihar Assembly. All the 234 MLAs took oath in the Assembly today, 30-03-2016, that they will not drink liquor.

A very good oath indeed! Let us hope that the MLAs will honour their oath.

Women can not be barred from temples – Bombay High Court

Bombay High Court has observed that women can not be barred from temples where men are allowed. The Division Bench of the High Court With Chief Justice Waghela and Justice MS Sonak stated that any temple or person imposing such restriction can face a six month jail term under Maharashtra Law.

Maharashtra Government should take necessary action in the matter so that women are allowed entrance to Shani temple etc.where women are barred from entering.

4,000 Millionaires left India in 2015

As per report of New World Wealth, 4,000 millionaires left India in 2015. The destinations seem to be mainly countries like US, Canada etc.

Why they are shifting to other countries? The report does not answer the question. Probably the super rich may be trying for super-rich living of this highly developed countries.

CTU Convention declares Nationwide Strike on 2 September 2016

The National Convention of Workers held at Mavlankar Hall, New Delhi, today, 30 March 2016, has called upon the entire workers to go on one day strike on 2 September 2016 on the demands raised by the Central Trade Unions and on which a strike has already been organised on 2 September last year.
The hall was packed to capacity and many delegates were sitting on the floor or standing. Convention was presided over by a presidium consisting of the President/Senior leader of all the central trade unions, including Coms. A.K.Padmanabhan ( CITU), Amarjeet Kaur (AITUC) and others. Dr. Sanjeeva Reddy (INTUC), Harbhajan Singh (HMS), Gurudas Dasgupta (AITUC), Tapan Sen(CITU) and other leaders addressed. All the speakers condemned the anti-worker policies of the central government and called upon the workers to unitedly to campaign against the same.
The Declaration adopted by the convention decided to organise similar conventions at state/District levels in June- July and Mass Dharna on 9th August 2016. It called upon the workers to organise a massive strike on 2 September 2016 with full participation.

Inoperative EPF Accounts will get interest from April 2016

The EPFO has decided to restore interest on inoperative EPF accounts w.e.f April 2016. UPA government had taken an unjustified decision to stop giving intetest on EPF accounts from April 2011 for which no further contributions were made.
While the present decision is welcome, that is not sufficient. Interest from April 2011 retrospectively should be granted. Then only justice will be meted out to the account holders.
Out of about a total of 15 crore EPF accounts, 9.23 crore are stated to be inoperative according to Labour Secretary.

PSU Official commit suicide due to non-receipt of salary

It is reported in the press today that a Joint General Manager of Public Sector company, HMT, Kanwal Singh Nagi, committed suicide by leaping down from a 45 feet high water tank. It is also reported that he took the extreme step due to financial difficulties, since salary was not received for months. HMT is in loss for some years and the staff are not being paid salary.

Thousands of kisans have been committing suicide in the last few years, unable to repay debts. Now an employee in a PSU has committed suicide.

We express our deep grief and convey our condolences to the bereave family, friends and colleagues. The government should immediately act and give sufficient funds to all loss making PSUs for payment of salaries to the staff.

IDBI Bank Employees strike

The employees of IDBI struck work on 28th March 2016 as per the call of the United Forum of the IDBI Officers and Employees against the anti-worker, anti-Bank attitude of the government. They went on a successful strike against the proposal for privatisation of the public sector banks.

Special CBI Court convicts JIPL and its Directors in the Coal Scam

The Special CBI Court  New Delhi has convicted the private coal company, Jharkhand Ispat Private Limited and its 2 Directors in the coal scam case. The punishment will be announced later.

This is the first case in the coal scam in which judgment has been pronounced. This clearly proves the charges of a very big scam in the coal allocation and connected matters.
