The Rich become Richer, the Poor becomes Poorer, that is India

According to the latest Forbes List of Super Rich Indians, Mukesh Ambani has kept his first position as the richest Indian. He has also increased his wealth from $ 18.9 billion to $ 18.9 billion In the list of richest Indians, next comes Dilip Shanghvi ($ 16.9 billion), Hinduja Brothers ( $15.2 billion), Azim Premji ($15 billion)and others.

While thousands of such rich persons have increased their wealth substantially, crores of poor people have become poorer and more people have become in the poor category. The government is boasting of increasing the wealth of the country. Of course it is true that the wealth of the country has increased, but most of it has gone to the coffers of the rich and powerful. The ordinary and poor people are the losers. Can this be called democracy of the people?

All the people have got a right to live in this country and the government has got a duty to ensure it. But the actions of the government are only to help the corporates and the rich. Strong protest and retaliatory action are required to change the policy of the government.

8.4 crore children not attending school – Census 2011

It is authentic now. According to the Census 2011, 8.4 crores of children in the age group covered under the Right to Education Act (REA) are not attending school. It means that about 20% of the total eligible children in the age group are denied education, a fundamental right.

Even seven decades of Independence, India, claiming as the biggest democracy in the world, is far behind even many African countries with regard to elementary education. The central governments, both under the Congress (UPA) and the BJP (NDA), never took any serious interest in the education of the poor and the marginalised, since they probably felt that arming the poor with education is a threat to the present social order where the corporates, rich and feudal landlords rule the country. It is only in the two states of Kerala and Tripura, which have Left Party Governments for long periods that literacy is 100%. Education is one of the area which is given top priority by the Left parties.

According to the Census 2011, about 78 lakh school going children have to work for a living, for existence, in India which has banned child labour. The government preaches one thing and act entirely on the contrary. The present NDA government has announced hundreds of plans (yojanas), but what about their implementation? It is not different from what the earlier governments have been doing, including in the case of education. A shame on the Governments!

The Left Parties, progressive forces, trade unions and other similar forces should take up the issue in right earnest and ensure universal education to the children. It should be treated as a fast-track job.It is also necessary to remove the large scale poverty in the country to achieve the same.

The origin of humans was in Africa only

Further scientific proof of the origin of humans has once again cemented the fact that the humans in all parts of the world have come from the ‘dark continent’,Africa, only. It is stated that the modern humans evolved in Africa about 2,00,000 years ago and gradually migrated to other continents like Europe, Asia etc. This includes the sub-continent India also.

It clearly proves that the argument of certain people that the Aryans were the original humans and they are separate from others has no basis, either scientific or practically. It is an argument to falsify history to take advantage by certain sections.

We condemn the government move to privatise 22 Public Sector Units

The move of the central government to privatise 22 PSUs under strategic sale is strongly condemned. It is to be noted that more than 18 crore workers participated in the 2nd September strike called by the Central Trade Unions on the 12 point charter of demands out of which one demand was ‘ no privatisation of PSUs.’ The present decision of the government is not only anti-worker but also shows the arrogance of the government, when the entire working class is against such privatisation.

This attack on the working class and the economic independence of the country has got to be opposed and defeated with the support of the people.

Increase in pension of freedom fighters

The Cabinet has decided to increase the pension of the freedom fighters by  about 20%. This will take effect from 15th August 2016. DA also will be announced twice in a year as in the case of the central government employees.

As per the new decision the pension of the, ex-Andaman political prisoners/spouses will get Rs. 30,000 increased from the present Rs.24,775. Freedom fighters will get Rs.28,000 in place of Rs. 23,085 and INA pensioners Rs. 26,000 from the earlier rs. 21,395.

The pensioners have been demanding long for an increase in their pensions. At last the decision is taken to increase.

Railway loses separate budget.

The Central Cabinet has
decided to discontinue the practice of presenting separate budget for Railways, thus changing the 92 year practice of separate budget. The reason mentioned is that the relevancy of separate budget is over, and unlike earlier. Railways budget was more or equal to the general budget earlier.

There are several questions which have to be answered. Whether the priority of Railways has declined? Whether a strategic change is going to come over the governance of the Railways, including corporatisation and privatisation as implemented in the telecom sector? Whether this will result in steep hike of the railway charges hitting the ordinary traveller?

A thorough study by experts is necessary. All or some of the above may result due to the present decision.

Retrenched Honda Workers on Indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar

Despite several agitation and struggles, thousands of workers who have been retrenched by Honda Motors are still to be reinstated. In protest against retrenchment and demanding reinstatement five comrades have started hunger strike at jantar Mantar yesterday, 2oth September 2016.

It is surprising that why the Labour Ministry is not intervening and settling the issue. Because the government is always on the side of the corporates. Give support and solidarity to the retrenched workers!

 

At last Cabinet decides to pay Rs, 1,250 to BSNL allotted from USOF

The Union Cabinet has at last approved the allotment of Rs.1,250 crore made by the USO Fund to BSNL towards compensation for the loss being made by the PSU in providing loss making connections in the rural areas and villages. The amount being paid was due in 2012 itself, but was delayed due to non-sanction by the government. At last it is decided now, but with the condition that no further such concessions will be made.

The payment of this amount was one of the important demands of the strike organised on 21-22 April 2015 by the Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations. In the meeting with the Secretary DOT on 1st May 2015 on the strike issues, secretary DOT had assured that all efforts will be made to make the payment at the earliest. But it took one more year afterwards.

 

 

 

Varanasi a Smart City – Contract worker gets only Rs.2000 per month

The ancient and holy city Varanasi, which is the constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is declared as a smart city by the government.

Good! But BSNL Contract worker is paid only Rs. 2,000 instead of more than Rs. 7,000 which he is eligible.

Will Prime Minister stop this brutal injustice and exploitation in his own constituency and the new smart city!

The non-executives in BSNL have got a lot grievances, whether regarding Bonus, wages, anomalies, stagnation, NEPP etc. etc. Now the non-executives are divided in to three or four groups of unions. Each will claim that they are fighting for the settlement of demands. Division of workers helps the management to deny the rights of the workers. Executives have their own demands.

Same with the revival of BSNL. All the executive and non-executive unions/associations, under the leadership of the Joint Action Committee / Joint Forum / Forum conducted number of struggles and settled many issues, mainly due to united actions. It also stands divided now, with certain unions keeping away. Those who wants to keep away have, of course, their justification.

But the Revival of BSNL and Settlement of the workers’ issues are the concerns of all unions/associations. In such a situation, those comrades/unions who are keeping away from the Forum have to rethink and come back for united action and struggle. This is much more necessary when serious attacks like strategic sale of the company is on the agenda of the government. Unity of action and activities can be done keeping their own identity and independent struggles.

We can well remember the Independence Struggle in which the Congress, Muslim League, Socialist Congress, Congress and other all joined despite their many differences in approach and ideology.
