Corporate Heads have no limit for Salaries

High Salaries

While the toiling masses are fighting to have at least the barest minimum wages for a living and to maintain their families, the salaries of CEOs and Heads of corporates are rising high in to the skies. There seems to be no limit.
The latest in this series is the salary fixed for Vishal Sikka, the newly appointed CEO of Infosys. It is $ 7.2 million or about Rs. 30 crore. In addition, he will also get Rs. 12 crore in stocks, which he can dispose after a certain period. It is stated that this is the biggest salary paid to any CEO in India.
But there are others who are getting more than this, since they are owners or promoters of their companies.Naveen Jindal was being paid Rs. 87 crores, Kalanithi Maran Rs. 68 crore and Bhattacharya Chairman Hindalco Rs. 20.6 crores. These are only a few, but many more are there in the similar lines.
The inequalities are increasing day by day. In a few years, the slogan of the US youth that 1% owns 99% of wealth and 99% owns 1% will come true in India also. The neo-liberal policies being implemented by the government of India (both earlier by UPA and now by NDA) is heading towards this dangerous situation.

Strong Condemnation over TMC MP’s threatening Speech

01 Tuesday Jul 2014

Strong Protests have come from Political parties, Trade Unions, Women’s Organisations etc. against the speech of Trinamool M.P. Tapas pal, threatening murder and rape against CPI(M) women.

The Press release issued by CPI(M) Polit Bureau in this connection is given below:

“TMC MP Speech Condemned

The speech of the Trinamool Congress MP, Tapas Pal, inciting violence and rape against CPI(M) workers and women is shocking and obnoxious. He threatened murder, destruction of homes of CPI(M) men and to send his boys to rape the women there.

This atrocious speech gives an indication of the actual situation in West Bengal where the Trinamool Congress are subjecting the CPI(M) and the opposition to systematic violence, intimidation and threats to their livelihood, with the state administration conniving in such anti-democratic activities.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands that firm action should be taken against Tapas Pal and cases should be filed against him for criminal intimidation and incitement to violence. Parliament should also act against this delinquent MP.”

Serious Action should be taken against the MP immediately.

NPA of Banks – One Corporate House owes Rs. 1,22,000 crores !

Arun Shourie, Corporate Houses, NPA

It has always been known that almost all the major corporates have not returned thousands of crores of rupees they have taken as loan from the banks. These are treated as Non-Performing Assets (NPA) and written off later. The hard earned money of the people were being looted by these corporate houses.
Now, senior BJP leader and former Communications Minister Arun Shourie has stated that one Corporate House in India owned Rs. 1,22,000 crore and another Rs. 58,000 crore to the banks, which they have taken as loan! This will be true. In the same way, there will be thousands of corporate houses, which have been cheating the banks.
Why the government and the Bank Managements are sitting as silent spectator? They should act immediately and take necessary strong action to get back the amounts to the Banks, which are mainly the PSUs.

4 Ashoka Road, a Few Precious Memories.

29 Sunday Jun 2014

4, Ashoka Road, CPI(M)

Today’s Hindu has reported that CPI(M) has vacated 4, Ashoka Road Bungalow, which was allocated to it, since after the 2014 elections, it has lost justification to occupy such a bungalow, due to less number of seats.
I read the news with sadness. Vacating M.P.’s bungalows is usual when the occupant is not re-elected, or the respective party does not get sufficient seats to retain it. Earlier also, CPI(M) had to vacate bungalows, which it occupied near Windsor place, where once the CPI(M) Central Committee office situated and also those occupied for SFI, DYFI etc.
But vacating 4, Ashoka Road is something different. It was allotted to Com. A.K.Gopalan M.P. in 1952 after the first Parliament election. He was the Leader of the Opposition as CPI was the second biggest party in Parliament after Congress. The bungalow was with the CPI(M) till now. It has got a lot of precious memories for the CPI(M) and for many ordinary comrades like me.
4, Ashoka Road was the CC Office of the Party when the office shifted from Calcutta to New Delhi in 1978. During the long tenure of Com. AKG as an M.P., he stayed in 4, Ashoka Road. Many important meetings and decisions were taken there. Even after the CC was shifted to the newly built AKG Bhawan in Gole Market area, 4, Ashoka Road was retained by the Party. The offices of the Kisan Sabha, Agricultural Workers Union and SFI were functioning there till now.
I have my own memories of the place. When Com.AKG was occupying the bungalow, on several occasions when I came to Delhi for union/conference/convention purposes, I used to go there just to met him and pay respects. He will ask about news of his friends in Calicut, about union matters etc. All in his presence felt that he is sincerely concerned about you.
When once I contacted him before starting from Calicut to Delhi, he told me to bring some coconuts. I put about some 20 – 25 coconuts in a sack and took it with me in the train. It was summer and by the time I reached Delhi and took it to 4, Ashoka Road, the coconuts were broken. He smilingly chided me, ” Don’t you even know that the coconut has to be brought at least with out removing the tuft?”. Of course, I knew by then from experience.

Even after Com. AKG was not there, I used to go there. It was for participating in a Central Govt. Employees Convention that I reached there on the afternoon of 25th June 1975. On alighting at New Delhi Railway Station we found that there were a large number of police personnel and there was complete silence and hushed voices only. Some comrades from Delhi came to us and told that National Emergency has been declared by the Government and it is not safe to stay where our accommodation was arranged. We were taken to the residence of comrade Jyothirmoy Basu, CPI(M) leader and Member of Parliament at that time. He had already gone underground to escape from arrest. After reaching there, our comrades told about the explosive situation under the draconian emergency. We were told not to go outside, for the fear of being arrested. However, I went to No.4, Ashoka Road. I met Comrade Narikutty Mohanan there who was the Delhi correspondent of Deshabhimani. Incidentally at that time a call came from Ernakulam Exchange. There were no mobile phones at that time.Even STD was not available.Every trunk call has to be connected by Exchange only. Since all press news were completely barred and communications through telephones and fax were all censured there was no opportunity for Mohanan to give a report to the Deshabhimani News paper in Kerala. When Com.K.Prabhakaran, P and T leader contacted from Ernakulam, I asked him to connect Deshabhimani and Mohanan gave detailed report about the declaration of emergency, the list of the arrested leaders and other information. And in the next day Deshabhimani, all the news came with photos of the arrested leaders and a strong editorial. I was told later that Narikkutty Mohanan was taken in to custody and questioned, but the police could not find any evidence of how the news reached Ernakulam Deshabhimani, because there were no records of fax, trunk call etc.
Vacating 4, Ashoka Road is painful, but inevitable in the new circumstances. But I am full of hope that tomorrow or day after tomorrow, the party will gain more strength and will have more Members of Parliament, so that this historic bungalow will once again be occupied by the Party or mass organisations connected with the party.

TSM/Casual labour in BSNL, wages

Major issues of the casual and contract workers in BSNL were discussed between the Joint Action Committee of BSNL Non-Executive unions with Director (HR) BSNL today, 27th June. Coms. V.A.N.Namboodiri, President and P.Abhimanyu, General Secretary represented BSNLEU. The following issues were discussed:

1.Regularisation of TSMs/Casual labour: The JAC demanded that all the left out TSMs/Casual labour be regularised at an early date, as was done in Income tax, Customs etc. on a one time basis. In this connection, the DOP and T orders can be followed. There are about 3,350 TSM/CL, most of them in W.Bengal. The Management continued their position that since the Supreme Court orders against regularisation is there, they can not be regularised.

2.Payment of minimum Wage and implementation of ESI, EPF etc. for contract workers: The JAC pointed out that the Govt. as well as BSNL orders are not being implemented at field level. They cited many examples. The management stated that they will issue again directives to the CGMs/GMs in this matter.

3. Revision of wages of the casual labour and TSM based on the IDA pay scale : JAC leaders pointed out that the TSM/Casual labour are at present paid only the minimum of the CDA scales and it should be revised to IDA scale. The management did not agree. The JAC also pointed out that even the revised minimum of the CDA is not being paid. This will be examined.

The Communications Minister Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad met the Managements of BSNL and MTNL today and discussed about their revival.

The Minister tweeted afterwards: “Discussed strategy for revival of BSNL and MTNL with senior management. No excuse for poor performance will be acceptable”.
“Directed BSNL & MTNL to take immediate steps to enhance quality of service and customer satisfaction and to resolve grievances.

This is what is required. There should be a serious retrospection on the part of the managements and plan really for the revival of the PSUs.
